Weaving technique
It is quite simple to make a panel from newspaper tubes. It is only necessary to follow a certain order of actions.
- Cut into tubes... For a wall panel, you will need newspaper sheets of 44x56 cm in size. You can choose a different sheet size. In this case, the tubes will be larger or smaller. The quantity depends on the dimensions of the future masterpiece. It is better to chop up to 50 pieces first.
- Twisting. You can twist the tubes with your own hands, without any tools at hand. An auxiliary tool is also used. To do this, you need to place a sheet of newspaper at an angle towards you. Attach a knitting needle, pencil or wire to the end of the corner, then start twisting. At the end of the sheet, you need to leave 15 cm, grease this gap with glue and continue twisting. At the end, the auxiliary tool is carefully pulled out.
- Painting. The cut tubes are halved. One part is painted with one color, the other with another. If letters are visible after the first staining, you need to paint over each piece again. Then you need to leave the tubes for a while so that the paint dries completely. This will take about an hour.
- Twisting into a spiral... In order for the wicker panel to turn out to be original, you need to give it a peculiar look. You need to twist the tubes into a spiral. First, you need the first half of the products of the same color. The glue is applied along the entire length and twisted into a spiral. The finished result is fastened with an elastic band so that all surfaces are in close contact with each other. The same work must be done with the second half of the tubes of a different color. You can alternate products. This will create multi-colored spirals. It is necessary that the discs come out in different sizes.
- Drawing up a wall panel from newspapers... At the final stage, imagination will be required. Spiral discs must be placed on a prepared surface. This can be done as you like: alternate multi-colored shapes with monochrome ones, small ones with large ones, and vice versa. To fasten the figures together, use a thick thread or wire. Better to take a thread. It is not so noticeable.
- When the panel is ready, you can hang it on the wall.
To ensure a long service life, you need to varnish the product. The coating also repels dust.
How to decorate?
You can decorate the craft with the simplest option - using paint. This is done during manufacture. But if for some reason the finished panel does not suit with its color, the composition can be revived with careless, multi-colored strokes. This will add brightness to the product and liven up the atmosphere. It is recommended to use gouache or acrylic paints for painting.
Newspaper panels are decorated with decoupage. This is a special technique using decoupage napkins or patterned cards. The picture is transferred to any surface. But it should be borne in mind that for applying decoupage it is better to use a light composition from newspapers. Otherwise, the image will blend in with the background. To translate a drawing, you need to cut out a thin layer of the image from a napkin or decoupage card. After that, the picture is carefully pasted onto the surface of the panel.
You need to work slowly, preferably with a brush, so as not to tear a thin layer of the picture.
Also, the finished composition is decorated with various applications. You can decorate the product with beads, felt figures, sculpted details, knitted elements, cones, dried flowers, leaves, coffee beans or bark.
