What gifts can you make for Christmas with your own hands?
Christmas is a holiday that takes almost an entire month of the year. And if in our country the New Year is still perceived with greater solemnity and reverence, in the West everyone is waiting for Christmas, preparing for the holiday and since the end of autumn they have carefully thought out gifts and surprises for loved ones. If you are also close to the Christmas theme and you consider this holiday special, then preparing gifts for Christmas will give you a lot of pleasure.
Requirements for Christmas gifts
It is not at all necessary to buy gifts only in the store: cute, handmade crafts are absolutely appropriate for Christmas. With a huge number of master classes and photo examples, even a person who considers himself deprived in terms of artistic skills will be able to create something convincing and festive.
Remember that the tradition of presenting each other at Christmas dates back to biblical times - the wise men brought gold, myrrh, and incense as a gift to the newborn Jesus. And this choice was not accidental. Try to make your gift as meaningful as any action on this magical holiday.
What not to do:
- do not give gifts, the cost of which may embarrass the person to whom they are intended;
- do not give things if you are not sure that the person being gifted approves of such a choice (for example, it is not forbidden to give perfume at Christmas, but if you do not know the preferences of a loved one, this gift will be risky);
- do not give what is associated with black humor, symbols of devilism, etc.;
- do not give gifts that oblige the person to make a reciprocal gesture.
There are no strict requirements, they all boil down to the elementary rules of politeness and good manners.
Popular options
There are times when you shouldn't reinvent the wheel. Cute holiday symbols are always an option worth considering. Before the holiday, souvenirs are sold everywhere, and if you think the addressee will like these things, you can buy them. The gift should not be expensive, elegantly decorated, with a claim to huge gratitude.
Most people on this day exchange souvenirs, unassuming trinkets, which, however, can decorate the house and create a blissful mood.
If you are giving a gift to parents (despite the fact that you yourself are already parents), then try to create something with the children. A common family business strengthens the bonds of the family, gives pleasant emotions, teaches children to be creative, the joy of creation. And the ideas for such gifts are numerous!
Angels
From paper, felt, beads - there are a lot of options. Probably no other image is so associated with Christmas as the image of an angel. It's nice at the end of the old year (or at the beginning of the new, depending on what Christmas you celebrate) to receive a personal guardian angel.
Children can mold an angel from plasticine; for this it is better to purchase special material. It lends itself well to decoration, and the finished angel will look like a thing from a souvenir shop. Recall that sculpting develops fine motor skills and stimulates the receptors responsible for the development of speech centers (they are located at the fingertips). You can make an angel if you follow the master class step by step.
Little Tricks for Making Paper Angels:
- to make the figurine look more festive, you can sprinkle the finished work with baby hairspray with glitters;
- on sale it is easy to find stickers in the form of beads and pebbles (also sold in children's art departments), they are well fixed on paper and do an excellent job with their decorative task;
- use not plain white paper, but design paper - kits are sold in bookstores and in creative departments (such paper often has an attractive texture, and in terms of strength it surpasses a landscape sheet).
If you are unsure of your artistic ability, buy a beautiful souvenir. Do not be lazy to sign a postcard with warm wishes.
Candlesticks
An excellent gift option, because candles, although they never went out of fashion, nevertheless, are experiencing another rise in popularity today. And this is not just a boom, but a conscious need of a modern person to surround himself with natural, warm light. Candles are often called a sacred thing: their soft glow makes you take away the fuss, think, be silent, and pray.
There is even scientific research showing that an evening spent in candlelight can help relieve psychological discomfort.
You can purchase original candlesticks that play up the Christmas theme. Or you can build a candlestick yourself. It doesn't always work out quickly, but it's worth it.
What a candlestick can be made of:
- from a spool with very thick, strong threads;
- from a very thick branch, inside which a candle rod (metal) will be located;
- from an ordinary glass jar.
The last option seems to be as simple and attractive as possible. If you have a jar of baby food, PVA glue, sea salt, thin lace braid, consider that the candlestick is half ready. You need to cover a clean jar with PVA glue and sprinkle (generously) with salt. Part of it will subside, but also the one that will remain enough to form a "snow" candlestick.
Tie a braid at the base of the neck. Instead of braid, you can use a thin satin ribbon. Sometimes a tag with Christmas wishes is tied to the ribbon.
Candles
When the beautiful candlestick is ready, you can also practice making candles with your own hands.But if you are afraid of such experiments, you can transform ordinary thick white household candles beyond recognition.
Take decoupage, for example. In stores before the holidays, napkins with New Year and Christmas motives are sold: they are perfect for decorating using decoupage technique.
If you cannot find suitable napkins, print pictures from the Internet on thin paper. You can use a special craquelure varnish to give the candles a vintage look.
You can also decorate candles:
- coffee beans;
- beads;
- sequins;
- spruce twigs, cinnamon sticks and miniature cones;
- sprigs of rowan or viburnum;
- lace.
Candles for which a "sweater" is knitted also look original. If you are a beginner in knitting, then even in the most primitive way you can knit a fluffy outfit for a candle, decorating it with a New Year's button.
If you knit well, complement the gift with the same outfit for the teapot - it's not only beautiful, but also practical (the teapot will stay warm for a long time).
Postcards
No holiday is complete without postcards! You can present your loved ones with handmade cards. Handicraft is in high esteem today, so it's worth picking up paints and trying your hand. Small watercolor sketches on a festive theme will delight relatives and friends.
It will be very great if you wish to show your skills in lettering with the help of postcards. This is the art of beautiful, esetical signing of letters, invitations, postcards, etc. Something very close to calligraphy. Lettering courses are incredibly popular today: people of different ages take fountain pens and try to draw out every letter without putting a blot.
Drawings
For a friend, grandmother, sister, a picture drawn by you personally will be a pleasant Christmas present. Let it be thematic, because it's great when every year in a certain season you take out festive decor from the mezzanine, and your picture will be an integral attribute of it.
But it is not necessary to strictly follow the festive theme. For example, your dad loves the sea very much - draw a picturesque sea sunset for him, accompany the drawing with a beautiful, inspiring signature. There will certainly be a place for your work in the recipient's house (and in his soul too).
Maybe you have long wanted to try your hand at drawing, but there was no occasion. Catch it - the festive atmosphere will give strength and confidence. And if it's still scary, start with the painting by numbers technique.
The main thing is to follow the instructions, and everything will turn out by itself. After such a picture, you can start painting more thoroughly. By the way, a present from the painting by numbers series is perfect as a Christmas present.
clothing
In winter, everyone wants warmth, comfort, the feeling of a slowly swirling soft snow in the shower. Knitted clothes are strongly associated with all this. Crochet or knitting is not so important. Whether it will be warm socks for mom or a scarf for dad, a sweater for a beloved man - the main thing is that it is a homemade, cute and very necessary gift.
Playing on the theme of winter is not so difficult: bullfinches, white bunnies, deer - all this accompanies the main idea of the holiday.
If there are small children in the family who are just learning to knit, entrust them to make a napkin for grandmother's table. And to remind her of the holiday, you can put a couple of drops of pine oil on a napkin. A great atmospheric gift!
Recommendations for the choice of material
It all depends on your initial skills. If you are still "on you" with needlework, do not take complex designs and techniques that require skill. Make a souvenir out of felt - many of the cute crafts can be hand-sewn without the need to sharpen the edges of the fabric. Horses made of felt, gingerbread, and Christmas trees are gorgeous. And the material itself is inexpensive. Beads can serve as an additional decoration for such crafts.
Not everyone fully understands how many beautiful gizmos can be made from paper. Embossed, textured, corrugated, metallized, designer - the choice of paper in stores for creativity is so great that several ideas may appear in my head already during the purchase.
Seemingly ordinary materials find a new solution, rethinking. For example, you can give your parents a plasticine painting for Christmas. If you buy a special plasticine with many shades, then the picture will turn out to be incredibly beautiful. True, this is not a quick matter, so you need to start work long before the holiday.
Or maybe you want to make a do-it-yourself napkin for the festive table? Otherwise, such a product is called a mini-tablecloth. If the table is rectangular, it lies exactly in the middle of it, in length it can even hang from two sides, in width it takes up less than a third of the table or a little more. The napkin is often made double-sided: the first side, for example, with a Christmas motif, the second - with a winter, more neutral one. Cozy, beautiful and original!
Making gifts with your own hands is no less pleasant than presenting them. Many fashionable and expensive purchased items in the energy sector are difficult to compare with simpler, but handmade gifts.
Do not forget to share this energy with your loved ones, so any holiday will seem even more meaningful and bring more joy and happiness.
