Drawing is the most common gift for a mother from children. But if the kids are not very worried about the quality of the work, then the older children want to do it "perfectly" so that they would not be ashamed to give. In fact, it is not so difficult, the main thing is to think over the topic of the work and carry it out in stages, gradually, moving from large details to smaller ones.

What to draw?

The question of the topic of the work often baffles, especially inexperienced artists. Here you can start from what reason the gift will be given - New Year, birthday, March 8. Or you can proceed from the personal preferences of the mother. A drawing depicting flowers, cute animals or stuffed animals will be a good birthday present.

If you have little experience in drawing, or in general this type of creativity causes difficulties, you can stop at abstraction or a landscape. These genres do not require clear drawing of details, strict correspondence to reality, they are much easier to portray for an inexperienced artist. In this case, you can use any visual means - a pencil, watercolors, gouache, wax crayons.

To make a beautiful drawing as a gift for mom, you need the following.

  1. Think carefully about the compositional solution. Composition is one of the most important stages in creating a drawing, its correct construction will allow you to do the work as competently and accurately as possible.
  2. Develop a sketch. To do this, you just need to outline the contours of the future drawing with a pencil, with light movements, without pressure, without drawing small details. This is a kind of "canvas" on which it will later be easier to draw.
  3. The final stage is adjustment, adding color, shadows, volume to the drawing. The main thing is not to overdo it, otherwise you can ruin everything.

If you choose the right topic of work, you can consider half the work done.

The theme provides a basis from which one can build on when building a composition, it allows, if not to imagine the final result, then at least to understand what to start from when choosing a plot, style, technique of execution and design of the work.

How to draw?

You can draw a gift for mom with anything - with a pencil, paints, crayons, oil. It all depends on what is more comfortable, more accustomed to work with. But in any case, you need to follow the phased work. In the case of a pencil, it is better to start with the image of simple geometric shapes, from which the depicted object subsequently emerges.

For example, when depicting a bear cub, you first need to draw ovals, schematically indicating its head, torso and paws. Then the finer details are gradually worked out - ears, muzzle, eyes, fur. The next step is to add color, shadows, and finalizing the picture.

With a simple pencil, you can create a 3D effect by carefully drawing shadows and giving volume to the image. When working with paints (watercolors or gouache), the first steps are the same as when using a pencil. But you can simplify the work. For example, when depicting a branch of cherry blossoms, you can skip the creation of the sketch and immediately proceed to the color embodiment of the work. For this, curved lines connected to each other are depicted in black or dark brown paint - this is directly a twig.

The next step is to display the flowers. To do this, you can use such a life hack. An ordinary plastic bottle is taken, paint of the desired color is poured into a saucer. The bottom of the bottle is dipped in paint and applied to the leaf with the depicted branch. You do not need to hold the bottle for a long time, otherwise the paint will spread and you will just get a spot instead of a flower. You need to arrange flowers sequentially, in a checkerboard pattern, but not too often.

This method is one of the simplest, allowing you to create a beautiful drawing with your own hands, even for a person who is far from painting. In addition, you can recall the drawing style of the smallest children.

Possible techniques

There are many drawing techniques, it all depends on the materials used and the level of complexity of the work. Of course, for a mother, any gift made by the hands of children is the best, but it must be done as efficiently and accurately as possible so that it is pleasant to give. Young children most often use crayons, felt-tip pens, or watercolors. There is a small selection of techniques, especially when it comes to children under 6-7 years old.

Starting from the age of 7-8, children can already understand how to mix paints in order to get the desired shade, they have an idea of geometric shapes that are the basis of any drawing, they have more or less a hand, they can draw a relatively even, straight line. This means that it will be easier for them to complete a neat, compositionally correct and believable drawing.

When using pencils, especially simple pencils, most of all attention should be paid to the correct overlay of shadows, to add volume to the drawing using chiaroscuro, highlights, shades, etc.

Not as popular a material as the same watercolor, but providing much wider possibilities for creativity - these are wax crayons. The use of an iron gives very interesting effects. This technique is called encaustic. It is quite simple, it only takes a little practice to get your hand filled. In addition, you will need to stock up on a towel (so that the iron runs softer), thick paper and napkins - to wipe the sole of the iron.

The device itself should be as simple as possible, the presence of holes, newfangled steaming functions is unacceptable. You need to work in the "nylon" or "nylon" heating mode. The encaustic technique is best used for landscapes and abstractions. They turn out to be very original, spectacular, beautiful.

To get started, you need to prepare all the necessary materials, put a sheet of paper on a spread towel, turn on the iron. There is no need to draw a sketch, anyway, you will not be able to work based on it. Encaustic is more often than not improvisation, and unexpected. It is impossible to predict what the final result will be. One can only roughly imagine what will happen in the end.

After all the preparations are completed, you can start creating. The crayon of the desired color is applied to the heated iron. After it warms up (it becomes liquid, but will not spread), the iron turns over, it, barely touching the paper, is passed along it in a horizontal direction.

Then the sole of the iron is wiped, a new color is applied. The steps are the same as for the first color. Or you can depict hills by moving the iron in waves. To draw greenery, you need to attach the sole of the iron to the paper and remove it abruptly. You can work out the grass in more detail using the spout or the edge of the device, simply by moving it over the uncured paint.

When the picture is finished and the crayons are dry, they proceed to the final stage of work. It consists in rubbing the wax with a microfiber cloth. After such processing, the drawing will acquire a beautiful shine. Working with wax crayons is not limited to one technique. There are several of them.

  1. Smoothing - when the sole of the iron is carried out, barely touching, on the paper in the horizontal direction.
  2. Imprint - you need to attach an iron and remove it abruptly. Depending on how hard you press on the paint and at what speed you tear off the iron, the print will be sharper or smoother.
  3. With a spout draw thin lines.
  4. Rib depict long continuous stripes.
  5. Unusual, interesting effects are provided by the use of a hair dryer. You can use both ordinary household and special ones - it is called embossing.

Amazing results are obtained by using several techniques, different materials in one work. Individual elements can not only be highlighted in a different color, but also made voluminous. This will add charm to the picture, make it unusual, spectacular, and eye-catching.

Also, do not forget about the correct design of the work. A beautiful frame, correctly selected both in size and in color, will emphasize the peculiarity of the picture, add completeness to the entire composition and become a worthy frame for the picture.
