How to do it yourself?
Foamiran butterfly is useful in applications, looks beautiful in a bouquet arrangement with additional decorative elements. Toy butterflies will serve as entertainment for children. It is very easy to learn how to make butterflies even for novice craftswomen, because on the Internet you can find more than one master class in which the schemes for creating such jewelry from foamiran are described step by step. We will tell you how to make a butterfly out of shiny foamiran with your own hands.
We will need:
- template for cutting butterfly wings;
- PVA glue and superglue for assembling the details of the product;
- clerical knife, scissors to cut a template;
- toothpick;
- baby mass for modeling;
- ruler;
- bead;
- stamen;
- white foamiran leaf;
- leaf of yellow glitter foamiran with sparkles;
- pastels of green, blue, pink, blue colors;
- a brush or cotton swab for applying pastels;
- a sheet of cardboard;
- iron;
- wire with crepe paper;
- metal hairpin or clip.
We make two balls with diameters, the size of which is 0.5 and 1 cm, from the children's mass for modeling. We sculpt the body of a butterfly from a ball with a diameter of 1 cm, it should be 3 cm long, apply it to the ruler and check. Segments on the body can be pushed through with a utility knife. From the stamen we get the antennae of the butterfly. To do this, you need to break it in half. To attach the antennae to the head, take a small ball with a diameter of 0.5 cm and make two holes for the antennae with a toothpick, fill them with PVA glue and insert parts of the stamens into them. The butterfly head is ready, it remains to cut out the wings and give them a realistic shape.
We need 4 pairs of wings of two types. The sizes of the pairs of wings will vary, two pairs should be less than the other two. From foamiran with glitter, we cut out those that are smaller, from white we will get large wings. Using a stencil, we circle all the templates with a toothpick. We also need a cardboard square with a side of 5 cm, the corner of which is rounded off with scissors.
We apply it to the template of one large wing, step back and paint the edge with pink pastel., which must first be ground into powder for application. Move the cardboard and make another thin strip on the butterfly's wing in blue. Take the crushed green pastel and paint over the wing. We do the same with the other wing, trying to paint symmetrically so that the finished foamiran butterfly is in no way inferior to the real one.
We will tint another pair of large wings a little differently. Cover each wing with blue pastel, but not completely. Along the very edge, add a little pink pastel, but so that between the pink and blue colors there is a place untouched by the paint. Apply blue pastel on it and shade it to get a smooth gradient.
Now let's start giving the butterfly wings a volumetric shape. We bring the painted parts to the heated soleplate of the iron for 4-5 seconds, heat the wings. After that, you need to fold them all in an accordion, twist and unfold. We process the edges: heat them separately and pinch them immediately.
For the wings, you need short wire pieces. We attach them with glue to the bases of the eight wings. Butterfly wings can be attached to a hair clip. First, we put large wings on superglue so that identical pairs are located strictly opposite each other. We glue the blanks from shiny glitter foamiran last.
We connect the head and body of the butterfly together. Apply the blue pastel to the back. With acrylic paints we apply small dots on each segment on the body, we make eyes on the head. After the paints are dry, apply a shiny blue glitter and polish to fix. We glue the body of the butterfly to the wings on a hair clip. An elegant shining butterfly is ready!
How and with what to tint?
To make the product realistic, you can give it the desired shade with the help of various tinting agents. It is very easy to color a butterfly made of foamiran, because the material from which it is made is very easy to tint, absorbing the coloring pigment. Due to the properties of foamiran, the butterfly after painting will no longer get dirty, the color will reliably remain for a long time even without special processing to fix it.
For tinting foamiran are used:
- art paints (watercolor, oil, acrylic);
- pastel;
- watercolor pencils;
- cosmetics (blush, shadows, varnish, powder);
- tempera;
- wax;
- distressing ink.
The most popular butterflies are pastels and acrylics. Let's take a closer look at the features of these dyes. There are two types of pastels - dry and oil. The dry look of the pastel does not take time to dry, it is very simple and effective to work with it.
It is easy to purchase a quality set with a wide range of colors. Pastel is well applied to products with napkins, cotton swabs and pads, makeup brushes or art brushes. The color fastness and brightness of the foamiran butterfly depend on the efforts applied when painting the product with dry pastels.
Oil pastels are used to create subtle strokes, outlines and patterns on foamiran, in particular the veins on the wings of butterflies. It is more difficult to apply it to a napkin in order to color the product. Oil pastels adhere better to pre-moistened material and are more durable than dry pastels.
Acrylic paints are also actively used for painting butterflies and other products from foamiran. For this, special acrylic paints for fabric are also suitable. In terms of their properties, they almost do not differ from ordinary ones. Acrylic paints dry very quickly, have a high saturation and activity as a dye.
To obtain a less bright color, it is worth making sure that there is no excess left on the brush or sponge used to apply the paints, and work with paints very carefully, avoiding excessive pressure. Acrylic paints apply to both moist and dry foamiran, but can react to sudden changes in temperature.
