Crafts and decorations from izolon are a rather unusual hobby that allows you not only to show all your creative abilities, but also to decorate an apartment or a summer cottage. You can buy such material in any store for repairs at a reasonable price, and for some products you can even use the scraps left over after finishing work. The material is easy and simple to cut and holds its shape perfectly, which attracts needlewomen.

What can be done?

From a technical point of view, isolon is a polyethylene foam. Initially, its purpose was to be used as a substrate for thermal insulation work. The color palette is usually yellow, red, green or white. Very soon, needlewomen noted that the material could become the basis for creating stylish decor items.

Usually craftswomen use several basic working techniques.

  • Cutting and cutting. Elements of absolutely any shape and degree of complexity can be cut from this material, while it can be easily cut with the most ordinary tailor's scissors or a stationery knife.
  • Shaping. Upon contact with hot surfaces and heating to 75-85 degrees, the material does not ignite or melt, but at the same time it becomes pliable and susceptible to deformation. It is noteworthy that after cooling, the new shape is retained - thanks to this, volumetric blanks can be created from a flat sheet.
  • Stretching. Izolon is a highly elastic material that can withstand heavy loads without breaking on the surface. After such manipulations, the original waves usually remain - this effect is often used in needlework.
  • Connection of elements. It is allowed to glue this material only with a glue heat gun, correct assembly is ensured by spot heating using a hair dryer, soldering iron or a heat gun. Often, parts are fastened to each other with a stapler, thread or ordinary tape.
  • Coloring. You can paint a craft from Izolon only with acrylic-based enamels, other paints do not hold on to this material.

When starting to make crafts for home and garden, it should be borne in mind that Izolon is not afraid of high humidity. However, under prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays, it turns yellow - this is especially noticeable on white and creamy materials. Colored isolon is more resistant to the sun's rays, therefore, it is from it that crafts for the personal plot and summer cottages are made.

The range of products that can be made from isolone is limited only by the flight of imagination and the level of skill.

Such creative directions as the creation of flowers, dolls, lamps, Christmas tree decorations, as well as interior decor items are especially popular.

Flowers

The peculiarities of the material lies in the fact that flowers of all sizes can be made from it - from miniature buds to large growth flower arrangements. Flowers can make up volumetric panels, be placed on stems, and also gather in groups.

Each flower is made up of many individual elements:

  • small petals are usually created from 10x10 or 12x12 blanks;
  • large ones are collected from petals, the length of which varies from 25x25 to 60x60 cm.

Depending on the chosen dimensions, the flower diameter can be 1 m or even more. For compact crafts, izolon is used with a layer thickness of up to 2 mm, for larger ones, strong plates with a thickness of 3 mm or more are needed, since a thin canvas simply does not hold its shape.

Izolon is a light material, however, a large flower arrangement with many petals can be heavy and therefore poorly resistant.

If you intend to put such bouquets in a vase, then they will need a special stand so that the entire floral arrangement does not fall.

The work of creating flowers includes a composition not fallen. 3 main stages. The first is the direct formation of the flower.

We draw your attention to the fact that any craft should be as similar as possible to its natural prototype. Therefore, the work should take into account the characteristic features of the structure of flowers (shape, proportionality, as well as the shade range of the flower).

After determining all the necessary parameters, templates for sepals are created. The required shape is given to the isolon by heating, and the final molding is done manually. All elements are connected into one composition with hot hot melt glue. If necessary, additional touch-up is performed with a brush or from a spray can.

For maximum realism, you can draw veins, dot, or perform some other typical patterns.

When creating any flowers from isolon, the following points should be considered:

  • The flower is formed from one central bud, near which half-opened petals are glued. In this case, the outer layer is entirely composed of disclosed elements.
  • The very first petals are glued around the tube, and for the subsequent ones, a flower pot or basin is used.
  • To create a bud, foam blanks are usually used.
  • The technique for making a peony is similar to the technique for making a rose. However, a half-open bud is placed in the center here, the petals along the edges have almost no signs of deformation. Without exception, all peony petals are distinguished by a wavy edge.
  • A tulip is formed from four petals connected in pairs, they are attached around the rod.
  • Chrysanthemum is collected from a large number of thin petals.

At the second stage, they begin to create a rod. This will require tubes, rods or rods. The diameter of the stem directly depends on the size of the flower, they must be commensurate.

To create small flowers, you can take a thin metal or metal-plastic rod or any plastic tube, for example, a cocktail tube. A real tree branch looks very impressive, elegant and naturalistic.

We pay special attention to the fact that growth flowers will require a strong stem. In this case, it is better to give preference to plastic or metal-plastic pipes and, by heating, give them the necessary bend.

If you do not plan to place the decoration vertically, but will attach it to the wall, then you can use a perforated tape - leaves will be attached to it. If you wish, you can simply hang the flowers on hooks and screws.

At the final stage, a support is formed. Volumetric floristic compositions require good support, so stylish but practical stands are used for them. Crafts typically use one of the following solutions.

  • Welded. In this case, a metal base is made, and rods are welded to it at a slight slope. In this case, the diameter of the latter is selected so that the stem is firmly put on them. The height of each rod is 6-20 cm.
  • Concrete. This stand resembles the first option, but in this case the base is poured from a concrete solution, and the rods are inserted into it.
  • Pot stand. Various containers can be used here as a basis - these can be basins, barrels, flowerpots and even buckets. Cement slurry is poured into them and the lower part of the stems is inserted until it solidifies.

When creating an artificial flowering bush, the branches look pretty nice. They are fixed on a wood base, and then leaves and flowers from the isolon are placed.

From isolon, you can make roses, snowdrops, asters, hyacinths, as well as lilies of the valley, daffodils and bells.

Dolls

Experienced craftswomen form doll outfits from isolon. For this, you can use ready-made game figures. The main task is to create such a beautiful dress that will turn even the most unnecessary and already unloved doll into a fairy princess.

There are several basic techniques.

  • A voluminous dress with wavy folds. In this case, the outfit can be created mechanically by stretching the material along the edges of the skirt.
  • Cape of overlays - here, to create the lower part of the product, a cone is used, petals cut through the template are collected in rows on it and glued together with hot glue.
  • Ruffle dress - in this version, ribbons are prepared from isolon and wrapped around the cone, moving from top to bottom, forming 2-3 tiers.

An outfit for dolls without fail requires decoration. To do this, you can use staining, varnishing, using glitter, as well as attaching colored beads.

Particularly creative is the combination of a doll with a lamp - in this case, a cartridge with a lamp is installed at the bottom of the dress. Passing through such an unusual material, the light becomes colored.

Other products

Izolon is used to make the most unusual crafts for the personal plot - swans, butterflies, pigeons, peacocks. One of the most interesting compositions is a crow, for its production you will need a plastic bottle and an isolon.

The sequence of work includes several basic steps.

  • To begin with, two plastic bottles of 1.5 liters are carefully cut and inserted into one another so as to give a shape resembling a bird's skeleton. You can put the remnants of an isolon inside.
  • The legs are made of wire and welded by welding.
  • Next, plumage should be performed - feathers for the wings are made of black isolon. You will need to make blanks of several sizes and form a wing from them.
  • Feathers must also be prepared for the body of the crow's body, they also need to be made in several sizes. The largest feathers will be used to decorate the tail.
  • When all the blanks are ready, using a glue gun, you can begin to glue the crow's body with prepared feathers. In order for the bird to turn out more elegant, the breast should be done in white.
  • The beak can be made from a regular shampoo jar.
  • After that, it remains only to attach the eyes, and the izolon crow is completely ready. Surely it will occupy one of the most prominent places in your garden.

In fact, when drawing up crafts, you can use any box or jar, so experienced needlewomen never throw away things that seem unnecessary at first glance - they often turn out to be useful for creating beautiful crafts for home and garden.

Simple crafts for beginners

Usually, after completing construction and finishing work, a large amount of carved isolon remains, which seems to be a pity to throw away, but there is nowhere to use it. That is why novice craftswomen can try to collect this material and make a beautiful night light out of it. A step-by-step master class is presented below.

Night light

From the available scraps of isolon, petals are carefully cut out in the form of drops of three different sizes. Using a hot hair dryer, the leaves are warmed up and given the desired shape:

  • the smallest are bent along, forming shoulder blades from them;
  • the broadened edges of the middle are folded in a wave;
  • the edges of the large petals are just slightly bent inward.

Be careful when working with a hairdryer, otherwise you may not only melt the isolone, but also burn yourself.

Continuing to warm up with a hairdryer, medium-sized workpieces should be glued together in 4 pieces in the form of a fan, and then the resulting flowers should be wrapped in rolls. Also, using hot air from a hair dryer, they are glued together into small inflorescences, each of which includes 3-4 flowers. If desired, each can be supplemented with artificial stamens - they are glued into the center with a hot gun.

After that, small petals are glued together and connected to large ones. You can leave the diameter of flowers and inflorescences at your own discretion, but in any case, their height should be the same.

Using hot hot melt glue, the flowers are attached to the shade so that they completely cover the entire outer surface. After that, all that remains is to screw in the bulb and turn on the light.

Complex compositions with your own hands

One of the most popular directions in the manufacture of crafts from izolon is the creation of lamps. They use an unusual effect that occurs when light passes through a thin material - it diffuses very beautifully and transforms the appearance of the room.

Usually, lamps in the form of large growth flowers are created from isolon. A large rose can become a stylish sconce, and a stemmed flower can be transformed into a creative floor lamp.

Floor lamp Rose

The product assumes 5-7 rows of petals, it is made according to a typical scheme. However, in this case, the central bud turns out to be quite large, so it is twisted around the cylinder. - this is how a cavity is formed for placing a cartridge with a lamp inside it.

The stem is made of a plastic pipe, always hollow, a cable is passed inside. A sepal made of plastic is attached to the upper part, as well as fasteners for the cartridge.

The bottom of the pipe is bent so that a stable ring is formed, fixed on a special base. A wire of the required length is released from the bottom end.

At the end, the plug is mounted and a pass-through switch is attached.

Beautiful examples

  • Flowers are most often created from isolon - irises, gerberas, dandelions, sunflowers and fuchsias.
  • Growth lamps-roses look very impressive, and ranunculus, anemones, camellias and gladioli are relevant in floor lamps and bedside lamps.
  • The photo zone is usually decorated with lotuses, magnolias, cornflowers and asters.
  • Hat boxes and baskets made of this unusual material are stylish and sophisticated.
  • And finally, bows and other wedding decorations for the car are made of izolon.
