Making wings from izolon
Before a children's holiday at school or in kindergarten, almost every mother thinks about how she can prepare a fabulous image for her child. Costumes in the form of butterflies or angels are often chosen. The main part of this outfit is the wings. You can make them yourself from isolone. Below we will figure out what we need for this and how to make them correctly.
What is required?
Before starting work, it is advisable to find out from the child or the future owner of the wings how they should look. Only then sizes and shapes are selected. Before starting the creative process, it is worth checking if we have all the necessary tools and details in stock:
- isolone;
- steel wire (we will make forms and fasteners from it);
- rough fabric (taken as a basis);
- scissors;
- hot glue;
- marker;
- paper for patterns;
- beads, ribbons, feathers.
Before starting the main part of the work, it is recommended to decide how many levels of feathers the wings should have... For this purpose, a pattern is taken and the required number of blanks is cut from the isolon. Each time, our model is trimmed a little with scissors, this is necessary to create the effect of layering. Similarly, the shape of the wings is cut out on the white fabric according to our pattern. Then it will need to be laid between the layers and carefully glued to the pattern.
How to do it?
As part of our master class for izolon wings for an angel or butterflies, you should prepare stencils with your own hands. The easiest way to download them is from the Internet. If this is not possible, then it is recommended to show imagination and draw them yourself. You can also go to a store where everything for cutting and sewing is sold and buy special paper, which will subsequently be used to make a pattern (it is transparent, which is much more convenient).
The main stages are as follows.
- In our blank, the wings are cut with scissors. Further, in shape, you need to bend the copper wire, it will act as a kind of base.
- The blank of each wing is glued to the wire with a gun... The wire is wrapped with isolon.
- So far, our skeleton is not very presentable, so the filling is cut out of the fabric in the shape of the wings (you can, for example, use chintz).
- It is necessary to ensure that for the fabric to adhere very neatly, no traces of glue should be visible. Also try to make sure that no threads stick out from the craft. No streaks are allowed on the fabric, it is recommended to wash the fabric before making the wings, especially if you had it in your closet for a long time before.
- To make the wings more durable, it is advised to think over their filling. You can take thick cardboard and cut it according to the pattern. Then place such thick paper between the fabric. If necessary, the structure is passed through a press.
- We take our down feathers... They can be obtained from an old unnecessary pillow. Details are glued around the perimeter. If you wish, you can fill the remaining space with them, lay them out according to a certain pattern or pattern. The elements are fixed with a thermal gun.
- Be sure to make sure that the directions of the feathers are the same. For realism, they are directed downward with their furry parts.
After the main work is completed, a Velcro or elastic band is glued to the wings with a heat gun, which will hold the base. This part of the manufacture of our wings must be approached very carefully, since they should not come off during solemn moments and spoil the child's mood and holiday in general.
It is also customary to use napkins to add volume to our craft. They are attached to the wings for a realistic effect.
Beautiful examples
Classic options can be considered as beautiful examples of wings.
Notice that as many feathers as possible are added closer to the bonding point. This allows you to hide the elastic or Velcro.
Take a closer look at such solutions.
- Clearly structured products will be an interesting option. Think over every detail, make many small patterns and then try to connect them together.
- If you have artistic inclinations, then some elements can be drawn using paints. White and silver colors are suitable for these purposes. Small feathers are also easily drawn by hand, it is advisable to draw everything as believable as possible.
- Depending on the wishes of the child, the wings are decorated with sequins and beads. The most suitable colors are white, milky and light brown.
For those who have a lot of patience, the option of cutting out each feather separately and gluing it onto an already finished structure may be suitable. It is recommended to choose thin paper here, as it will pick up the wind much better. The most unusual solution is to make only the base from isolon, and the rest of the structure from fabric. This look is more suitable for a butterfly. By analogy with a pleated skirt, many folds are ironed, they will imitate wings.
