Making peonies from isolone
Graceful peonies from isolone look luxurious in the concept of any event, and add special charm and beauty to photographs.
Peculiarities
The base of the flower - isolon - can be purchased at any building supermarket, where it is better known as polyethylene foam. This material is sold in rolls; for making flowers, sheets are used, the thickness of which is 2–4 mm.
Izolon has different colors. The main reason that this material was used for making artificial flowers is that it can be easily cut with scissors or a knife. Another feature of this material is the inability to tint with ordinary dyes, that is, only a certain type of paint can paint it.
Izolon is a safe material that does not emit carcinogens. But the main advantage of such a material is the ability to give the petals the necessary bends. This is possible due to its ability not to burn at high temperatures, but to melt, bending to the desired shape. That is, by slightly treating the petals with fire, it is not difficult to give them the desired shape and the necessary waviness.
Due to the fact that the material is quite thin, it is possible to achieve such natural flower shapes. The finished petals are most often fastened together under the influence of temperature, but you can also sew or glue them.
Do not forget that the isolon is able to "remember" the shape. Therefore, such flowers cannot be crumpled, because creases will remain on the leaves, which will affect their appearance. If such a flower gets wet, then this will not affect their appearance in any way.But they do not tolerate direct sunlight - they begin to turn yellow, especially for the white isolone.
Tools and materials
For work you will need:
- technical knife or scissors;
- glue gun;
- hairdryer;
- acrylic paints.
We calculate the amount of required material. Add up the area of the cut petals. In most cases, this is one or two standard sheets.
Options for making peonies
- Consider a step-by-step master class for beginners on making flowers.
- We select the color of the future flower. The choice of color is yours, but it is advisable to stick to natural shades.
- It is also necessary to decide on the size of the petals. Before starting work, you need to imagine what you want to get as a result, because the petals are very different in size. A small flower has a size from 1 to 14 cm. And for the manufacture of a large peony, the thickness of the isolon must be at least 3 mm. The volume of the entire flower depends on this. Although the number of petals is not strictly limited, it all depends on your imagination. But do not take too dense material, such petals look untidy and rude.
- Cooking and cutting out templates. Typically, the diagram is drawn on plain paper and then cut out.
- We give the leaves a shape. We heat the isolon, slightly stretch the leaves. Don't forget to focus on a real flower.
- We glue the finished petals with hot glue. Do not forget to take into account the arrangement of the petals, like a real flower.
- We cover the finished flower with spray paint. This process is done in cases where there was originally such an idea of the author.
The leaves on the stem are made according to the same technology as the petals: they are cut out according to the prepared template, folded according to the general model and glued.
Petal patterns
The size of the template is identical to the size of the finished flower: the middle petal is 20x20 cm, and 45x45 cm or more is possible. When creating dimensional flowers, you are not tied to parameters. The diameter of the floor peony can reach one meter. Making such an outdoor peony is a rather painstaking work, but the result is worth it.
The whole technique is quite simple and accessible for beginners to work with.
To make your work look realistic, you need to thoroughly know the structure of the peony. If you pay attention to the flower, then the edge of the petals is partially carved, which gives it its own peculiarity, and experienced craftsmen are well aware of this.
Rostov
Large do-it-yourself flowers from Isolone are more often used as a one-time decor for the holidays. If such peonies are used as a permanent decoration, then the link to the general style of the interior is already important here.
The creation of any flower always starts with a sketch. At first, they are determined with the type of flower - it can be both a natural and a fantasy form. The next stage is the selection of the shape for the petals and the center of the flower, the choice of shade and style. Working on the templates, we immediately correlate the sizes of the petals and the dimensions of the finished decor, we immediately determine the thickness of the isolon. Outline colors do not have clear size limits. In street decoration, peonies can be used, the diameter of which reaches a meter, but sometimes they are even larger. In the decor of the premises, everything depends on the occupied area and the skill of the decorators. The most acceptable flower size will be 300-400 mm, average - 200-300 mm, with a center of 100 mm.
The peony perfectly keeps its shape, most often it is gradually increased, bringing it to the required diameter.
When creating large buds, it is important to choose the right support. With the apparent lightness of the material used, meter-long flowers need strong attachment in the sepal region and a strong, stable stem. For such flowers, they use steel racks made of wire, polymer pipes, or, in general, frame structures. All these frames are beautifully decorated or hidden among the greenery.
Having calculated the sizes of specific petals, we prepare the required number of templates: inner and outer petal, sepal, outer leaves. Then we soften the details with a hot hairdryer, give the petals the required shape, work out each bend and figured cut along the edges of each terry petal.
We assemble the flower using hot glue, a furniture stapler and wire. At the end of the process - coloring, but, as practice shows, most often this is the tinting of the flower. Isolon has a wide color palette, the colors are very close to natural ones, so most often it is enough to apply a little acrylic paint with an aerosol can, varnish or mother-of-pearl - and a huge flower comes to life.
Small
Very beautiful, touching and delicate little peonies will be a great addition to a large composition or general decor.
Step-by-step production:
- draw a template and prepare blanks;
- we form petals, warming them up and collecting them in an "accordion";
- we collect a flower - we use a foil ball as a core, which we glue with an isolon and tie it with threads;
- glue the core, start with the smallest petals, gradually moving to large ones;
- in this way we glue all the petals;
- the final stage is the fixation of the sepal.
Lamp
Izolon lamps differ in height, diameter and style. Isolone shades are so light that a simple fixture in the form of a polymer pipe will be enough for a large flower and for a bouquet-lamp, and a large double flower can easily be fixed on a pipe with a diameter of 40-50 mm. Such an assembly is considered reliable for both a floor lamp and a wall lamp. The manufacturing processes for a bedside lamp, table lamp and floor lamp are different. The lamp-shade and flower-lamp also differ in the way of assembly. In the assembly of the latter, a ready-made shade in the form of a ball is used, and the flower lamp is mounted on a sleeve, where the base of the LED lamp is then inserted.
For the stability of floor lamps, a heavy stand is used, for bedside lamps, fastening to the wall is required, and for table lamps, a base from an ordinary household lamp is perfect.
On the wall
Such a flower will be an excellent decorative solution both for living quarters and for decorating photo zones. A bright, elegant peony can be a great addition to a flower arrangement or become the basis for an original panel.
There are two mounting methods.
- A special wall with hooks and holes is made under the panel. The peonies are hung on the fasteners using a large paper clip.
- When you need to decorate the wall, but you cannot make a large number of holes, then fix a piece of punched tape, pieces of foam or twigs in the most secluded places. The resulting platforms are used as bases and flowers are fastened with clips and clamps. Cornices, door slopes and any other surfaces where it is possible to attach decor without harming them can also be used as a basis for decor.
In a big cup
Such a composition of peonies looks elegant and delicate. Such a present can be safely presented to a dear person.
How to make:
- cut out the petals according to the prepared templates;
- we give a shape with a hairdryer;
- glue a strip of isolon onto a piece of wire, and on top of it - details;
- glue the petals one by one, glue the sepal;
- we put everything in the chosen cup or other container.
