Crafts "Butterfly" from leaves
The butterfly is an amazing insect that is admired by both children and adults. That is why this image is often found in crafts and creativity. In this article, we will consider how to make a beautiful butterfly from leaves on the theme "Autumn" with your own hands.
Material preparation
Autumn leaves are so beautiful that it is impossible to pass by without picking them up. The collected "autumn gold" is often put between the pages of books, and, finding the sheets after a while, admire the fragile perfection. However, you can also collect leaves on purpose, preparing them as a natural material for crafts and applications. This must be done correctly.
- Do not dry the harvested leaves outdoors. When dry, they will begin to curl and become unusable for crafts.
- The easiest way is to dry the sheets between the pages of a thick book. They will dry out in a couple of days and remain flat.
- To preserve the elasticity of the harvested leaves, they can be soaked in glycerin for 3 days, and then stored under pressure between the pages of the book.
- If dry material is needed urgently, use iron drying. To do this, the workpieces are inserted between sheets of paper and ironed with an iron on an ironing board. If you set the iron to the maximum division, then after 5-10 minutes you can start working.
After such drying, the harvested leaves do not become brittle. In this way, you can dry not only fallen yellow, but also plucked green leaves. After drying, the materials do not lose their natural color, remaining green, burgundy, red. Applique blanks ironed between paraffin waxed parchment paper retain their color longer.
In a similar way, a variety of flowers and flower petals are harvested. The more diverse the collected material is, the more colorful the work will be. A variety of seeds are also collected as natural material, for example, lionfish of maples, ash, birch. After drying, they are laid out in boxes for ease of use.
Crafting ideas
Making postcards and pictures from natural material using the applique technique is not difficult, and it is quite within the power of kids. The topic of the lesson can be the craft "Butterfly" made from autumn leaves.
Starting to work on the "Butterfly" craft, certain materials are prepared:
- a set of dried leaves, flowers, petals and plant fruits;
- double-sided tape or glue (both PVA and stick are suitable);
- landscape sheet or cardboard;
- a set of markers, pencils, wax crayons;
- different colors of nail polish;
- sequins;
- ruler;
- scissors.
Now you need to decide on the size and color of the paper. To create the simplest butterfly image, follow these steps step by step.
- Butterfly wings are made from dry leaves on cardboard. Upper wings are made from large blanks of slightly elongated shape, and lower wings are formed from small petals. They are placed with petioles to each other.
- A body is made from a long narrow leaf. It is attached on top of the wing joint.
- Finishing the work, antennae and eyes are glued to the head of the butterfly, making them from dry tree buds. The application is ready.
A more complex task in the form of a picture from natural material on paper is offered for older children.
It is performed according to the following algorithm.
- On the sheet, using a ruler and a felt-tip pen, make a frame.
- A flowering flower bed is located in the lower part. It will consist of dried chamomile flowers and green aster leaves. They will make the picture colorful.
- Start creating a butterfly. It is collected from leaves of different sizes and shapes. Two large rounded leaves will be the upper wings, two smaller ones will be the lower ones.
- In the selected place, the workpieces are fixed. The body, head and antennae are drawn with a felt-tip pen.
To make the butterfly as bright as possible, its wings are made from several leaves of different shades and sizes, which are superimposed on one another. If desired, apply drops of multi-colored nail polish on them, sprinkle with sparkles. The frame is encrusted with natural material.
You can create a lot of different butterflies. Their differences will depend on the configuration of the leaves. Large leaves can be cut to shape with scissors. A product with two or three different butterflies looks good. For applications, not only tree leaves are used, but also dried flower petals, for example, gladioli, petunia lilies. Other insects or animals can be portrayed in a similar way.
With minimal tweaking, the leaves can become fun beetles, bunnies, squirrels, and birds.
Helpful hints
When starting to create an application with children, parents need to remember a number of useful recommendations.
- In the process of work, it is important for the child to show and suggest, and not cut and glue them themselves. It is the baby who does it.
- Tools must be comfortable and safe. So, the scissors should be light, with blunt ends.
- For safety reasons for the smallest children, starch is brewed instead of glue. From 2 years old they are allowed to use PVA glue, and from 3-4 years old - glue stick.
- As materials, you can use various paper, old postcards and magazines. Pieces of fabric, leather, fur will do. You can use multi-colored threads, yarn, foil. Good and safe materials are pasta, noodles, cereals. It is very useful to use natural materials: dry branches, blades of grass, leaves, flowers, straw.
- It is necessary to teach the child to tidy up the workplace after the end of work. He must clean up materials and tools, keep the table clean.
