How to make a wreath of autumn leaves?
A wreath of leaves is a traditional attribute of almost all autumn photo shoots. It can be woven by yourself. Most often, the wreath is woven from maple or mountain ash leaves. There are certain requirements for the material that should be taken into account.
Classic options for the head
Before starting the main process, you need to prepare the material. You can collect it only at the height of leaf fall, since at the very beginning the leaves are not very beautiful, and there are not too many of them in quantity. In order not to harm the trees, it is permissible to use only fallen leaves. Certain requirements are imposed on them, which are as follows.
- The leaves must be clean. Otherwise, the wreath will have an unattractive appearance.
- The material should be outwardly beautiful. Better to choose burgundy, yellow and red shades. A slight blotch of green is acceptable.
- It is highly discouraged to use damaged leaves, as this will also give the accessory some carelessness and untidiness.
In order to comply with all of the above conditions, it is recommended to collect material in dry and calm weather. If, for some reason, dirty leaves were collected, they can be carefully washed under warm running water, wiped off with a paper towel, and then dried a little more on a sunny windowsill.
There are two options for weaving a wreath of leaves: with and without a base. This is not to say that one of them is better or worse, it is just that different techniques are used in both cases.
With base
Wreaths with a base are more durable and strong.But you will have to spend a little more time creating such an accessory. It is recommended to use soft but strong tree branches as material for creating the base. They must first be prepared: make them smooth, getting rid of the bark. When the blanks are made, it is necessary to make a base from several pieces. Close it in a ring, then you need to add several dozen rods to the ring. If necessary, they should also be secured with twine. The final base should look something like this.
There is another way to create the base for the head wreath. In this case, nylon and paper are the main consumables. From newspapers or other similar paper, you need to twist the tubes, and then glue them together so that you get a circle. Now the paper ring must be tightly wrapped with nylon tights or stockings. It is best to use a flesh-colored wrap as the black can still be visible even after the leaves have been added.
Important advice! In order not to be mistaken with the size of the base, before making it, it is necessary to measure the head circumference of the person who will then put on the wreath. It is better to make the accessory a little larger than the size of the head.
Regardless of the base, the collected and prepared leaves must be applied to it. In order for the wreath to look more attractive, it is recommended to organically select them by color. Depending on the idea, you can add berries or flowers to the composition. The third option is to use wire. This way of creating a base is simple and reliable. The wreath's circumference can be easily adjusted to the desired size, so an accessory can be woven even for a child.
The step-by-step process is as follows.
- It is required to twist a circle of the required diameter from a soft wire.
- Next, you need to alternately attach leaves or some other selected decorative elements.
- It is very easy to fix the leaves on the wire, since they can simply be wound onto the base itself.
The wire can be unsafe if the base is not made correctly. The ends must be screwed in so that they do not scratch the scalp or face.
No base
You can make a wreath without a base. It differs from the previous version in several ways:
- less lush;
- to create it, it is recommended to use leaves with long petioles;
- the wreath will not be as strong as the one with the base.
The advantage of such an accessory is that it will take much less time to create it. The master class in this case is simpler, since you need to start working directly with the leaves. They need to be alternately applied to each other, fixing by cuttings. At the end of the work, you need to round off the weaving, and tie the ends with twine.
Creating a wreath on the door
As a craft for school or kindergarten on the theme of "Autumn" or just for decoration, you can weave a wreath on the door with your own hands. The most durable option is considered to be on cardboard. The step-by-step instruction consists of several steps.
- You need to prepare a piece of cardboard. Using a compass, you need to make two circles: one large and the other slightly smaller. Using scissors, you need to cut out the drawn figure. The end result should be an object that resembles a donut in shape.
- Next, you need to use unnecessary nylon stockings or tights. They need to be wound around the cut out circle in order for it to become more voluminous. After such processing, you can proceed to the decor.
- The next step is to use a glue gun and decorate the product.
Almost any natural materials can be used here as decoration: tree leaves, berries (for example, red or black chokeberry), acorns, chestnuts and much more.
This option is simpler, since the weaving technique is not actually used here. All you need to do is just glue the elements carefully onto the cardboard base. In order to fix the wreath on the door, you can make a special loop on it: glue a small piece of twine on both sides. And you can also simply make a small hole at the very base and hang it on a door or wall behind it.
The same wreath can be made without a cardboard base, that is, simply weave it from the leaves. But here you will need material either on long legs, or, in general, with the presence of branches from a tree. You can also try to find such specimens on the ground after a strong wind. Weaving is best done with oak, maple or mountain ash leaves. There are several weaving patterns. They differ from each other not only in the technique of execution, but also in complexity. The most popular of them are clearly shown in the photo.
