How to make an elephant from beets?
After reading this material, you can figure out how to make an elephant from beets. Attention is paid to all the subtleties that allow you to make such a craft step by step with your own hands. Additional tips for making an elephant are also given.
Preparation
Although the elephant is not a predatory beast, it is distinguished by its formidable, unbridled power. However, in art and culture, it is associated rather with nobility and lofty motives, with domination and power, wisdom and grace. That is why the preparation for the formation of the bishop figure should be done as carefully as possible. The beet was not chosen by chance - the very shape of this root crop is quite close to the shape of an elephant's head, and you won't have to modify it a lot; it is only necessary to supplement the workpiece, and there is no need to cut off the skin.
Manufacturing instruction
Cutting out parts
Usually the beetroot elephant is done step by step as follows:
- take large and small beets - on the body and head, respectively;
- rings are taken from the third beet;
- cut these rings in half;
- form ears from them;
- cut another root crop into 4 parts;
- these fragments are altered so that cylinders (future legs) are obtained.
Assembly
It logically continues the previous stage of work. A couple of toothpicks are stuck into the fruit, which will become the head. On them you need to chop parts of the beetroot slices. Where there will be a "neck" in a large vegetable, 2 or 3 skewers must be planted.
In their absence, ordinary toothpicks help out - and vice versa.
Such supports allow you to hold and fix the neck. Sometimes you can even use 1-2 additional supports if it doesn't hold well. However, it would be more correct then to see what exactly was done wrong. When the legs are prepared, toothpicks are again inserted into them.The structures are placed and fixed on the body.
Further:
- they look to see if these legs are right, if they are level;
- if they are placed correctly, place the figurine on the table;
- roll up two pairs of plasticine balls (black and white);
- stretch the red plasticine "sausage";
- white material is used to form the eyes;
- pupils are indicated in black;
- red plastic is used to show the mouth;
- lay a sheet of crepe paper in a box;
- cover it with corrugated paper;
- with the help of grooved strips, they reproduce the grass;
- put it all in a prepared container;
- they put the elephant there;
- Nuts are scattered over the surface (you can even fix one or two nuts on the tip of the trunk).
You can make an elephant with your own hands even without preliminary cutting and without any plasticine. This approach will require the use of 3 root vegetables. One of them needs a long root, while the other two do not (in fact, it is contraindicated there). The main steps are as follows:
- one fruit is made the head of an animal, orienting it so that the tail resembles the trunk;
- the second, larger, is used as the body of the lord of the savannah;
- the third beet is allowed to get legs and the famous voluminous ears;
- tie all parts with toothpicks;
- sculpt eyes and mouth from plasticine;
- glue the pallet out of paper;
- lay out paper grass in this pallet;
- add dried flowers or physalis nuts to it;
- they put the elephant in this miniature pasture and enjoy the result.
Useful Tips
Additional materials can often make the figure more fun and unusual. For example, for this purpose, you can make from plasticine not only eyes, but also the ears of an elephant. But one must understand that such a homemade product will already suit only children of at least senior preschool age. The younger ones do not always have the patience to sculpt all this.
You can increase the realism of the craft with the help of potato halves - again attached to matches or toothpicks.
Another way to make ears is to use cabbage leaves. Following the elephant, you can also craft from vegetables or sculpt other animals:
- lions;
- crocodiles;
- antelope;
- zebras;
- giraffes and so on.
Original eyes for an elephant can be made from blue-tinted rowan berries. But in any case, it is not only the components and aesthetic aspects that are important. Instruments play a significant role in the art of carving. A simple kitchen knife may well be used for work. There are only two important requirements: the sharpness of the tip and the strength of the blade (when it bends, it is not only uncomfortable, but also downright dangerous).
Experienced craftsmen advise to evaluate knives by the ergonomics of the handle. A good model allows you to work for a long time without overworking. This is even more important for children than for adults - otherwise they can easily cool off to a new activity. Thai knives are sometimes used as an alternative to ordinary kitchen knives. They are good for round cuts and for manipulation in hard-to-reach areas; but a noisette ball knife for making an elephant itself is not particularly needed - unless only when complementing the composition with cut flowers.
