Making crafts from clothespins
Clothespins can be used to create a variety of decor items, including functional, simple toys for children and for fun. It is best to take just wooden clothespins, since they have a rectangular shape, a beautiful texture, adhesion with paint and glue is better than that of plastic, and the material itself is more environmentally friendly.
How to make kitchen hooks?
In addition to the regular hooks, you can use clothespins to grab tea towels. The easiest way is to glue them to the inside of the cabinet hinged doors. So towels and other items will always be at hand, while hidden from view.
You can also make a clothespin hanger. For this you will need:
-
wooden crossbar or wide long plank;
-
the clothespins themselves;
-
wood glue (carpentry);
-
rope or twine.
You need to stick clothespins on a wooden crossbar at some distance from each other so that the things they will hold do not interfere with each other. Tie the rope around the edges to make a handle. For her, the hanger is attached to a hook or stud. You can attach the crossbar directly to the wall, for example, on concrete screws, but a mobile hanger is much more convenient. It can be easily hidden, outweighed or taken with you.
If desired, the hanger can be decorated or painted. Use paints such that they do not leave marks on the towels.
Other decor ideas
Clothespins themselves can act as decorative elements. They can be attached to curtains or used as clips. For decoration, you will need glue (carpentry or PVA), colored tape, small stencils, felt-tip pens, paints, sparkles and various elements for decoration (beads, buttons, rhinestones).
Spring pendant
Do not throw out the springs. You can make a ring out of them or such an original pendant.For him, you can pick up a large bead, approximately equal in width to the spring, a little wider.
The diameter of the through hole must match the thickness of the metal wire.
Insert the bent ends of the metal holder symmetrically into the bead. If necessary, bite off the excess with pliers. A chain is pulled through the core of the spring, and an original decoration is obtained.
Glider
In order not to attach notes to the wall or the refrigerator, you can make an original glider with your own hands, which at the same time will serve as an unusual decor for the interior.
To create you need:
-
clothespins;
-
picture frame;
-
thin black marker;
-
rope or twine.
Pull the twine onto the frame to which the clothespins will be attached. There are several options here. For example, pull 4-5 ropes, onto which you attach 7 clothespins for each on the days of the week. Or use 31 clothespins according to the number of days in a month.
The idea is to use different sticky notes and reminders. Can be used as a stand for notes, or make a collage of photographs. The clothespins themselves can be changed, as well as the purpose of the glider. The frame can be additionally decorated.
Fridge magnet
You can also make a functional fridge magnet.
For manufacturing you will need:
-
pin;
-
joiner's glue;
-
magnet;
-
decor or paints.
First, the clothespin itself is decorated. Here the fantasy is limited by the master. Then it is glued to the magnet with wood glue. It can be found at hardware stores, ordered online, or used from old, broken fridge magnets.
The main thing is to choose one so that it can perfectly withstand the weight of the craft and does not fall off the door.
Candlestick and planter for a flower
You can make an original candlestick from an ordinary tin can and clothespins. The jar should be low so that when clamped, the clothespin reaches the bottom. If it is wider, you can trim it neatly.
Naturally, wash the jar itself, dry it and remove the paper label.
Clothespins are attached to the bank along the perimeter with a solid "fence". After they can be decorated, left like this, or tied with a beautiful ribbon. Place a candle inside.
A planter for an indoor flower is done in the same way.
The main thing is that the tin can be slightly wider than the pot.
Car air freshener
If the chemical smells of car air fresheners are unpleasant, you can use natural aroma oils. For crafts you will need:
-
wooden clothespin;
-
felt balls;
-
PVA glue;
-
aroma oil.
Glue felt balls in a row to the clothespin with PVA glue. Allow to dry well. Then drip aromatic oil onto the ball. You do not need to apply a lot of odoriferous product, otherwise the aroma will be strong and can provoke headaches. Then, if necessary, you can add oil to the balls. The fragrance is ready, attach it in the car.
What to do with the kids?
Crafts from clothespins can be done with children, for example, animals.
Crocodile
For work you will need a black marker, colored markers or paints. It is better to choose a clothespin for crafts from wooden ones. First, teeth are drawn on the side at the end of the clothespin. Then on top - the eyes and nostrils, and then the whole clothespin is painted green.
For work, it is better to use acrylic or oil paints, or cover the finished toy with transparent varnish so that it does not paint your fingers.
Dragonfly
For work, you will need a wooden clothespin, 2 popsicle sticks, markers or paints, PVA glue, running eyes for toys. One half of the clothespin must be painted in stripes, imitating the segmented body of an insect. Paint the popsicle sticks separately.
First stick on the eyes. Then attach the wings (sticks) with an overlap with a cross in front of the spring. The dragonfly is ready.
Surprise toy
A cut-out picture of two parts is glued to the side of the clothespin. On the reverse side there is a surprise picture. The idea is that when the clothespin is opened, these parts also diverge, revealing what is hidden behind them.For example, it can be an egg that hides the image of a bird, or a predatory fish, when you open its mouth, a smaller fish becomes visible.
Educational game
You can make an educational toy for children to learn counting. You will need:
-
10 wooden clothespins;
-
cardboard;
-
markers.
Cut a circle out of thick cardboard. Further, it must be divided into 10 parts. The parts do not have to be equal. Can be divided into a chart, where the thickness of the "slice of the pie" depends on the number.
In each cluster, draw circles or other geometric shapes in an amount equal to a certain number.
Write numbers on the clothespins themselves. The idea is to link the number to the correct cluster.
These are far from all the ideas that can be realized with children. But even their simple decoration is an interesting activity that perfectly develops fine motor skills. Plus, these ideas are great for school fairs.
