Scandinavians love to decorate their home with candles. And since the Scandi style has become popular far beyond the borders of the countries where it was created and sung, and fans of such a cozy home arrangement began to treat candles more reverently. Selectivity also applies to the choice of candlesticks, which also become part of the interior. If the candlesticks from the store do not meet all the requirements of the buyer, you can swing at the manufacture of these elegant objects with your own hands.

What will it take to work?

The simplest, most affordable, functional material used in the creation of candlesticks is an ordinary glass jar. You can either pour wax inside such a jar (the candlestick will turn out to be as believable as possible), or put a ready-made candle there.

Why a bank:

  • the shape meets the requirements of a standard candlestick as much as possible;
  • the transparency of the glass is beneficial for the final design;
  • banks do not need to be specially bought - they are always at home;
  • it is possible to choose a shape, size;
  • if you take good care of it, it will last a long time.

In addition to the can, you will most likely need glue. Not all master classes contain him in the list of materials, but in the most popular and simple versions he is almost the main "hero" of MK. You can completely coat the jar with glue, and it will become that adhesive base to which the decor will be pressed. Coarse salt becomes the main decoration of such candlesticks. It is poured directly onto the glue, it sticks to the base, and then (after drying) the jar is shaken. Excess, non-adherent salt particles crumble, but reliably fixed ones remain.

Christmas candlesticks are made in such a simple way.

These materials can be called basic, standard, but the algorithm for creating candlesticks is not limited to them.... To decorate the product, you may need ropes, threads, braid, decorative cord, lace. Dried herbs are also suitable for creation (they will have to be ground in a coffee grinder), plant twigs, etc. You may need acrylic paints, glitters, a stencil, etc.

How to make a candlestick from glass jars?

The principle of creation depends on the style and theme of the future decor.

For the new year

A simple but very beautiful candlestick will turn out from a jar, glue and varnish, and also an acrylic medium. You will also need: a sponge, a hard brush, salt (semolina and rice are sometimes used instead), wire and scotch tape, twine and tape, decorative elements (cones, berries, spruce branches).

  1. On the washed and dried jar, apply a medium with a hard brush. This layer must be allowed to dry (an hour will be enough).
  2. Then a lacquer layer can be applied with a sponge, which should also dry thoroughly. You can make two or three layers - all at the request of the author.
  3. It is necessary to tape the place where, in the opinion of the master, there should be less snow. The remaining space is again varnished.
  4. Until the varnish has dried, you need to have time to quickly add salt, dip the wet layer. Salt crystals will soften the light.
  5. After all the layers are absolutely dry, you can decorate the candlestick. You need to take a wire, wrap the neck of the can several times, then make a handle and attach it to the can.
  6. The next stage is winding with twine, to which spruce branches will be attached.
  7. The photo shows how a bow is attached to the string with hot melt glue.

But MK can be improved... Whoever likes such an authentic look of the handle for a candlestick does not need to do anything, and who wants a better design wraps the handle with twine or twine as well. The candlestick will become more New Year's if you attach small bumps to the spruce branch.

In oriental style

Do not discount both small baby food cans and coffee cans - they can be exactly the size that a suitable candlestick could have. For example, such a beautiful one, as in the MK for painting a candlestick in an oriental style. For this work you will need: a can, bulk paint, paint for painting on glass, a brush, wire.

  1. You need to remove the label from the can, rinse the container, remove the remnants of the glue, then dry thoroughly.
  2. It's time to apply voluminous paint. Since they are sold in jars with a special narrow neck, you do not need a brush - the paint will be squeezed out neatly through it. Drawing is often arbitrary, it depends on the skill of the author. It is important that there is more painting at the neck of the can and at the bottom of the painting, and the middle remains less filled.
  3. Glass paint is poured into a jar, and it must be carefully painted over with a brush from the inside, leaving no gaps.
  4. The wire will be needed to form the handle. (if it is provided by the idea).

In exactly the same way, using the same volumetric paints, you can paint the jar pointwise. It will resemble the style of mehendi, Indian painting. You can initially take jars of colored glass in order to apply only painting, do not touch the background.

In marine design

There is a very simple option, but the marine theme is immediately guessed. A candle is placed at the bottom of the can. It can be either a wide candle with a height just below the can, or a tablet candle. Color - white, milky, ivory. You can also blue. Sprinkle the candle with sand. Shells and sea stones can be scattered around the bottom perimeter (around the candle). They can only dot the bottom, but they can rise higher - this is by the decision of the author.

There you can also add glass pebbles, which will sparkle pleasantly in the light.

Twine or jute can be wrapped around the neck several times, or you can (even better) make a mesh that will resemble sea nets. Weaving it is not difficult - you just need to practice making knots separately, and then observe the same mesh size when weaving.

More ideas

Candlesticks with fabulous, magical silhouettes look no less interesting. In these, the outlines of houses on a snow-covered street are cut out of paper. You can use decoupage, which will turn any primitive jar into a small masterpiece.

You should not give up hairspray (with sparkles), it is enough for them to fairly spray the jar, as it will automatically become elegant.

You can paint the jar with acrylics in the abstract style. Or you can simply wrap the neck of the jar with different ropes, to which you can attach a wooden Christmas tree toy (snowflake) if the candlestick is New Year's, acorns if it is autumn, a shell if it is sea.

Manufacturing from metal cans

Tin cans are probably found in every home. They sell canned meat, stew, green peas, canned pineapples and much more. To make a candlestick you will need: one such iron tin can (without a lid), a paper stencil for a pattern, a hammer and a nail, a pencil, earth (sand), acrylic paints, additional decor at will.

  1. On the outside of the tin can with a pencil is applied stencil.
  2. Earth is poured into the jar, so it is more convenient to make holes, and the sound of punching will not be annoying... With a hammer that knocks on the nail, a pattern is knocked out of the through holes in the jar. Of course, with metal scissors, you can make not such simple patterns, but this is for the pros.
  3. It remains to paint the jar well with acrylic paints. You can also use spray paint to make the layer even smoother.

Also, initially, a wire handle can be screwed to the neck of the can, then it can also be painted over. All this is done quietly at home.

Beautiful examples

How else you can decorate your home candlestick - in the inspiring examples described below.

  • How easy it is to do - so beautiful and looks... Just cans, suspended on brutal chains, and inside - white, not very large beans. And an ordinary thick candle. If you hang several of these candlesticks in a row along the fence or the wall of a house in the country, you get a very cozy evening composition.
  • "Clothes" for the candlestick can be crocheted... Small glass jars of baby food are suitable for such a strapping. The glow will turn out to be a little delicate.
  • And here are the buttons of the same color, glued to the jar with hot glue... It is enough to paste over only half of the candlestick with them to get a beautiful product.
  • Coffee beans and citrus zest can make not only a beautiful candlestick, but also an aromatic one. This is especially relevant on autumn evenings.
  • These knitted "scarves" are suitable for winter candlesticks. The color of the created elements is matched to the shade of the dominant New Year's decor in the house.
  • It is quite easy to cover the jar with spray paint, having previously covered part of it with a maple leaf.... You can, real, glued to the bank in the middle. Then the sheet is removed. Pour any cereal or coffee beans into the jar until the middle. It is convenient to insert candles into such cereal slides.
  • If you take sheet music and adapt them as decoration for a candlestick, you get a romantic piece. Do not forget to just cut out a heart through which the light of a candle will penetrate into the room.
  • Flowers collected in summer and subsequently dried can be placed on the walls of the jar... Tie the neck with twine or twine. So in 15 minutes you can make a candlestick reminiscent of summer.
  • And here is the macrame, which becomes an elegant vestment for a simple can. The light through its slits will go especially soft, magical.
  • Quite an interesting use of cans, especially unique in it is the creation of a solid composition, literally tied with a rope. Cones, artificial moss, paper stars complement the overall picture.
