How to clean up your closet?
It may seem like putting your closet in order is not the most difficult task. However, due to improper organization, even in the largest wardrobe, some items may lack space.
We have prepared for you an overview of the most interesting ideas for ergonomic garment placement.
What storage systems should you use?
According to the Japanese method of organizing the storage of clothes, before putting the wardrobe in order, it is necessary to disassemble its contents and make a thorough revision. You can select the excess for several reasons.
- Things rarely worn. If your clothes have been collecting dust for more than a year, most likely you will not wear them in the future.
- Wrong size. Get rid of things that are small for you forever. Do not pile up pants and dresses in the hope of losing weight.
- Outdated style. High-quality products that are out of trend or do not suit you in style can be left for picnics in the country or donated to charity.
- Bad condition... Everything is simple here - torn, stretched and faded products should be safely thrown away.
For a practical storage organization, the remaining things must be prepackaged. You can keep things tidy with crates, hanger bars and vacuum bags.
Boxes
The most ergonomic and common storage option for clothes is drawers. They can be extended, but at the same time they do not fall on a person's feet along with all things.
As a rule, a quick glance is enough to snatch what you need from its contents.
An alternative to wooden boxes is becoming pull-out shelves without dividers. They give a good overview, allowing you to see everything inside. This option is optimal for placing bedding and towels.
Divider shelves usually have several blocks - for straps, socks and tights. In this way, you can not only ergonomically, but also aesthetically organize the storage of your wardrobe. The contents of these shelves are reminiscent of the display cases in fashion boutiques.
Tidying up the dressing rooms do not ignore the various organizers, baskets, tie boxes and transparent containers. They can significantly save useful functional space and, moreover, correctly organize a common storage system. And to make it more convenient to use such blocks, containers can be signed or provided with labels with signatures ("tights", "pants", "socks", etc.).
Barbells
Mobile rods with hangers placed on them become an important part of any closet or dressing room.... Modern manufacturers offer a variety of options - both classic static ones and more technologically advanced ones with retractable mechanisms.
Pantographs were invented for tall cabinets. These are special lifting and lowering lifts: to lower the bar, the user just needs to raise the handle, and to return it to its place, push the lever up.
The most spacious option is considered to be a spiral hanger, it is optimal for compact cabinets.
Special attention should be paid to the selection of hangers. Let's make a reservation right away - try to avoid wire hangers. Their only purpose is to bring clothes safe and sound from dry cleaning or atelier to the house, it is not recommended to store things on them. Under the weight of its own weight, the material begins to stretch, and this causes deformation of the hanger frame. It is possible that after taking out your favorite leather jacket after such storage, you will notice that it resembles stretched sweatpants. We no longer mention the rust stains that can remain on light-colored clothes.
Wooden hangers are a good option, they are devoid of the disadvantages of wire hangers. However, devices from a pair of boards, which were popular in the days of our grandmothers, have no place in modern wardrobes. It is better to give preference to models with wide rounded corners - they look expensive and solid. Clothes can slip off varnished surfaces, so they will have to be buttoned.
If you have only one requirement for hangers - high practicality, then plastic models will be the best solution. They are convenient for keeping order, lightweight and keep their shape well. Many models additionally have silicone pads to prevent delicate fabrics from slipping.
The safest option is vinyl-coated hangers - they are as thin as wire hangers without pulling out your clothes.
Regardless of which hanger you buy, it is important that it is the right size. This is an indispensable requirement. Bubbles come from small hangers on the shoulders, and from too large ones, the sleeves protrude.
Important: keep in mind that knitwear, especially thin cardigans and jumpers made of wool and other fabrics prone to deformation, cannot be stored on a hanger.... They are stacked on the shelves.
Vacuum bags
One of the most useful inventions for organizing clothing storage is vacuum bags. This reusable system provides secure storage of items of any size for a long time and takes up a minimum of space. The bags are ideal for storing seasonal items. For several months, they protect products from mold, dust, moisture, strong odors, as well as moths. They are sold in any store at a reasonable price.
The main advantages of vacuum bags include:
- tightness;
- moisture resistance;
- softness;
- high strength.
Plus, they save up to 80% of the space in any dressing room.
Bags are made of PVC film of different sizes, so that each user can choose the most practical model for himself. They usually contain spare blankets and pillows, seasonal outerwear (except for sheepskin coats, natural fur coats and leather jackets), soft toys and down products. Each product has a valve, through which air is pumped out with a vacuum cleaner - this method provides the vacuum necessary for long-term and safe storage.
How to sort your clothes?
We offer several options for sorting clothes in order to streamline the functional space.
- By type of clothing. This is the simplest, most affordable and common sorting option. In this case, a separate part of the shelf is occupied by T-shirts, space is for sweaters, and skirts are hung on hangers. Thus, a separate section is allocated for things of any type. This approach allows you to quickly find and pull out the desired item without interrupting the entire shelf.
- By affiliation. Such solutions are optimal for large families if all clothes are stored in one closet. Each user is allocated a separate shelf and rod. You can also use different colored hangers. For example, blue for mom, gray for dad, yellow for son, and green for daughter.
- By color scheme. This approach will allow you to quickly and easily create the most stylish looks. Sort all of your garments by shade - from light to dark, or arrange them according to the colors of the rainbow. This will significantly save time looking for a set of clothes, and it will also cheer you up every time you open the cabinet doors.
- By functionality. A good solution would be to sort the garments depending on their purpose - things for work, outdoor recreation, special events or sports. Festive outfits, which are worn from time to time, should preferably be closed in a wardrobe trunk.
- According to the weather. If you started sorting clothes in a closet at the beginning of autumn, then you will not need swimsuits, T-shirts, shorts and sundresses for a long time. Wash these items and put them in the back corner. When the seasons change, simply swap the stacks so that the overall order in the wardrobe is not disturbed.
Basic location rules
Now let's take a closer look at the basic rules for organizing the storage system, which will significantly increase the functional area in the cabinet.
- Pants must be stored on special hangers-crossbeams, and skirts - on ordinary hangers.
- Before putting things in the closet, be sure to wash and iron them. This way you can keep your clothes looking fresh and save ironing time later. And before sending wool products to the closet, you need to thoroughly ventilate them, best of all on the street.
- A practical solution would be to use tiered hangers with clothespins. In comparison with the usual hanger, you can hang much more things on them - this is the best choice for small wardrobes. Thanks to this approach, much more free space can be saved in the closet.
- Sweaters, jumpers and sweaters stored folded on a shelf or rolled up. If held vertically, this wardrobe item stretches rather quickly and loses its shape.
- Blouses and shirts to avoid deformation, you need to hang it on a soft hanger with silicone hangers.
- Socks and underwear it is better to keep on pull-out shelves or in baskets rolled up in a tube. It is advisable to sort them by shade. Many users roll a snail out of their socks - this is not the best solution, in which case the upper sock quickly stretches and loses its aesthetic appearance.
- For tights, golf and socks they select a special organizer, you can buy it in every household goods store. Visually, they resemble a container, divided into several small compartments.Organizers can be suspended or horizontal. Hanging ones are optimal for space ergonomics, they are hung on the inside of the door or on the cabinet doors.
- Ties, scarves, straps and other accessories stored on the doors of the cabinet. The best way to do this is to take a towel rack with hooks placed on it. This approach can significantly save usable space and facilitate the choice of the required item.
- The smallest things can be put in baskets, small containers or boxes.
- A separate locker should be reserved for storing shoes. If it is not there, then it is worth highlighting a special place at the bottom of the wardrobe. Store each pair in a separate box. And so that you can find what you need at any time - glue a sticker on the box with a description or a photo of the couple.
- Products unsuitable for the weather it is better to place it at the very bottom of the cabinet. However, this method will only partially save space.
- You can attach canvas pockets to the sash and store flat shoes and slippers there. If you wish, you can sew this design with your own hands from any available material.
- Handbags must be kept upright, otherwise unaesthetic creases cannot be avoided. To keep them in shape, it holds crumpled paper inside. The smallest handbags and clutches are best invested in larger, more capacious bags. To achieve maximum space savings, hooks should be hung in the back of the wardrobe.
- Bed linen is stored in sets. Most often, the sheet and duvet cover are put into a pillowcase.
Helpful hints
To minimize clutter in closets, you can use our life hacks.
- Trousers, long sundresses and dresses should be thrown over the shoulder bar. This measure will keep the clothes clean, save them from dust formed at the bottom of the linen closet.
- Use the "back hanger" principle... Hang all the things in such a way that the hooks "look" at you. After using the product, hang it with the hook on the other side. After a month, in the direction of the hooks, you will be able to understand what kind of clothes you hardly wear.
- To keep the closet in perfect order, Get a coat hanger in the same shade and size.
- Do not forget about the useful area of the cabinet doors. Attach a few hooks to the back of them and store there things you cooked the next evening.
- If there is no mirror on the cabinet door, be sure to install at least a small... Thus, you can save time in order to choose a spectacular wardrobe. And besides, avoid the wardrobe details scattered throughout the apartment during the fitting process.
- At the turn of the seasons, you should sort out your clothes and put away those things that you are unlikely to wear in the next couple of months.... They must be folded into boxes and placed on the top shelf or hidden under the bed. Seasonal items can be stored in large suitcases, and they can simultaneously act as a small cabinet or decorative element.
- In small apartments, the closet should be made high. In this case, a part of the shoe, which is rarely worn, and a winter blanket are placed on top.
- All wrinkled and dirty clothes are placed in a separate box.
And, of course, take care of your things.... Empty the closet from time to time, clean it and ventilate it. These simple steps will minimize the risk of unpleasant odors. If desired, you can place inside scented sachets, pieces of fabric soaked in your favorite perfume, or freshly processed wood-scented planks.
