Straight cut dresses are comfortable to wear, easy to sew and easy to combine with various accessories. What you will see for yourself.

No off-the-shoulder pattern

A dress with an elastic band with bare shoulders is called "a peasant lady". It is feminine, with a twist and is perfect for lovers of country or boho style. The model will look great on the beach and at a party. The main thing is to choose the right length, fabric and jewelry, which can be a belt, flower or beads.

Off the Shoulder Straight Dress

Cut out 2 large rectangles for the dress and 2 small ones for the sleeves.

Off-the-shoulder straight dress pattern

We start sewing:

  • Draw a 7x25 cm rectangle on paper, round the edge and cut out. The mold for the armhole is ready.
  • Circle the template on all details and cut out.
  • Sew the front and back. Sew on the sleeves along the armhole.
  • Along the upper cut, make a fold in the form of a drawstring, where you pass the elastic. If you wish, you can sew the elastic on the sleeves.
  • Finish the edges of the bottom of the dress and sleeves.

With drapery

A straight knitted dress will not look boring if you make the neckline wavy, add a little drapery, and emphasize the waist with a narrow belt. Walking around the city, you will definitely attract attention to yourself.

Draped Straight Dress

Cut open

  1. Re-take the details of the pattern. Make the length as you wish.
  2. The bottom cuts of the parts are not processed, so allowances are not needed.
  3. Open a one-piece front with piping and folded back, as well as 2 sleeves, a piping for the neckline and a belt 7 cm wide and 173-189 cm long.
  4. Before, fold along the middle line with the wrong side inward and align the marked marks to create a fold. Stitch 1 cm long.
  5. Sew the neckline to the back and sew the shoulder seams.
  6. Sew the sleeves into the armholes, and then sew side seams and seams on the sleeves with a single stitch.
  7. Sew the belt.

With bat sleeves

This model is universal and dimensionless. Sewn from thin, easily draped knitted fabric with elastane, 2.30 cm long and 150 cm wide.

DIY Bat Sleeve Straight Dress
  • Re-take the details of the pattern, just do not forget about the 1.5 cm increase for the hem of the bottom and for the seams.
  • On the fabric, cut out a detail of the front and back with a fold, 2 edging for drawstrings 5 cm wide and 55-63 cm long and edging for the front and back neckline 4 cm wide.
  • Fold the seams of the necks in half lengthwise with the wrong side inward and press them in, then pin them to the cuts of the necks of the front and back, aligning the open cuts of the seams with the edges of the seams and stitch them.
  • Fold the hem and side cuts.
  • Iron the longitudinal edges of the drawstring seams 1 cm and stitch at the waist.
  • Place the longitudinal lines of the stitches on the front and back with basting stitches on the right side, pin them and sew.
  • Insert the elastic tape into the drawstring.

With smell

There is another example of sewing a straight dress from a single piece of fabric - this is a model with a wrap.

DIY straight wrap dress

We need a rectangle equal to two lengths of the future dress, that is, the left half will be the back, and the right half will be the front. The width depends on the length of the sleeves and the half-girth of the neck.

In the center of the rectangle, draw a conditional line, where measure along the edges, for example 35 cm for the shoulders and 20 cm for the neck. On the right side, draw a V-neck and cut the fabric to cut it out.

Try on the dress while shaping the scent. Sew two stitches and sew the belt.

Wrap dress pattern

If the fabric is light and draped well, the shoulders can be gathered or pleated if the fabric is tight.

Vintage

The close-fitting straight silhouette with soft folds at the waist and pockets was to the taste of our grandmothers, but is still relevant in our time.
