Every family has a pair of old jeans that are ripped, out of fashion, or just small. Of course, you can always throw away your jeans, but you shouldn't rush, because you can make a lot of useful things out of them. A great solution for using old jeans is a stylish backpack that you can make yourself to your liking.

The best master classes with patterns

Simple backpack

Anyone can make the simplest backpack, because you don't even need to make a pattern for him. It is like a bag, compact and roomy.

First you need to prepare materials and tools:

  • jeans;
  • non-woven fabric;
  • lace;
  • belt tape;
  • fabric for sewing lining;
  • teak.

The process of sewing a backpack must be done step by step:

  • You need to take jeans and cut off the excess from the side of the legs. This decision will affect the height of the backpack.
  • Now, open the legs from the inside, fold them together to create straight pieces, all that is unnecessary should be cut off. Sew all the details carefully to make a pipe.
  • Particular attention should be paid to the bottom of the product. To keep it strong, it is better to use three layers. To preserve the oval shape and increase the density, it is worth inserting two teak layers between the layers, and then gluing everything qualitatively with non-woven fabric.
  • The lining is cut out depending on the size of the backpack. Then it should be sewn from the wrong side and all the details sewn together.
  • In the straps, which are intended for the belt, you need to insert the lace to securely close the neck of the backpack.
  • The strap is suitable for sewing shoulder straps.Additionally, you can make soft overlays from denim for the convenience of wearing on the back.
  • Make a flap out of denim and sew on a button closure. Do not forget that pockets on old jeans will not only help decorate your backpack, but can also be used to store various small items.

If you do not need a volumetric model, then you do not need to cut out the bottom. The seam should be tucked nicely.

With decorative textile inserts

A backpack made of old jeans, decorated with textile inserts, looks beautiful and original. Surely every housewife has many scraps of different fabrics at home. They will be a great decoration for a denim backpack.

First you need to prepare materials and tools:

  • old jeans that you need to rip first;
  • details from fabrics of different colors and textures;
  • non-woven fabric;
  • lace;
  • large button;
  • eyelets (6 pieces);
  • metal rings for fixing harnesses (2 pieces);
  • threads and needles;
  • sewing machine.

For a pattern, you will need several blanks:

  • the oval will be the bottom of the product (27x16 cm);
  • the rectangle is intended for the base of the backpack (73x37 cm);
  • two strips for shoulder straps (100x10 cm);
  • valve.

Now you can proceed to sewing a fashionable backpack:

  • To begin with, you should make three patterns (body, valve and two straps) and sew on a thin non-woven trim of various materials.
  • From old jeans, you need to cut two identical parts that will go to the body of the backpack. On the one hand, they should be stitched, and on the other, a ready-made part, decorated with scraps of fabric, should be inserted and also stitched.
  • To create a flap, you need to sew two parts, but always from the wrong side. You need to sew a loop on it.
  • Now you can go to the bottom of the product, it should be carefully sewn in, and then sew on the edging with eyelets, and stick the lace.
  • On the other side of the product, two straps must be sewn.

In the patchwork technique

Patchwork or patchwork is a very interesting direction that allows you to create a real masterpiece from small elements. Therefore, it is impossible to pass by and not use this technique in sewing a stylish backpack from old jeans.

For sewing a product using the patchwork technique, it is necessary to use fabric of different colors and textures. For a backpack, you will need more than one pair of jeans in different shades. For example, you can take dark blue, light blue and light blue models, and if you wish, you can also add material of a different texture.

So, the process of sewing a backpack using the patchwork technique occurs in several stages:

  • First, you need to draw a pattern in order to understand the location of the colored patches. For a small backpack, the size of the square can be 13x13 cm, but allowances for the seams should be taken into account. Just one centimeter is enough.
  • It is necessary to cut out the main part from the serpyanka, also taking into account the seam allowances. Carefully lay out all the squares on it and glue them with a hot iron. This method will avoid rough seams that form when sewing denim.
  • The synthetic winterizer can be divided into two layers: a piece of shreds will be sewn onto one, and the second will be used to create a strong bottom.
  • To decorate the squares, you can take and sew a rep tape on their joint border. First, sew it horizontally, and then vertically.
  • Fasten all the details with an additional line, carefully cut off the extra centimeters of the padding polyester.
  • We fasten the side seams with a zig-zag, while the side without an allowance is superimposed on top of the edge of the product with a serpentine.

The main part is ready, so you can proceed to create the valve, bottom and piping, which are available for each model of the backpack.

Roomy model

A large backpack can not always be called roomy. This characteristic largely depends on the cut of the model.

The process of sewing a roomy backpack from old jeans:

  • Cut the legs off the jeans to make the shorts.
  • Cut the shorts at the side seams, the extra centimeters can be cut off.
  • Place the front of the shorts on the back, secure with pins to avoid misalignment and sew along the waist of the jeans.
  • One leg should be used to make a handle for a backpack and two harnesses. They need to be sewn, and then turned out to the right side. In the middle, you can put a tape for curtains, which will make them better.
  • The second leg will be used for sewing the back wall of the backpack.
  • Now you can connect the front and back of the backpack, but it is important not to forget to secure the harnesses with a single seam.
  • The other end of the harness and the handle should be sewn to the back of the backpack.
  • It remains to sew the product along the side seams.
  • You can pick up an old jersey for the lining. Cut off the neckline and sew on one end. Thus, you get a bag. If desired, a pocket can be sewn to the bag.
  • The lining must be inserted into the backpack and fixed along the contour with pins. Sew it carefully.
  • You will also need a flap, which should be about 12x17 cm. You can sew several pieces of fabric if there is no suitable size left. The flap must be sewn with finishing stitching.
  • The finished flap should be sewn to the back of the backpack. For fastening, you can use buttons on long laces, which are then tied on the straps left over from old jeans.

Backpack for children

Children prefer bright and beautiful things, so this original backpack will become a favorite accessory for a child. Children love to carry backpacks thanks to their spaciousness, compactness and mobility. Old jeans and a little imagination will help you create a unique model that your baby will definitely like.

First you need to prepare everything you need:

  • old jeans (a combination of two colors will look nice, so you can use two pairs of jeans);
  • lining fabric;
  • non-woven fabric;
  • lightning;
  • plastic;
  • scissors, thread and needles.

For a pattern, use jeans of only one color. The second pair is useful for decorating the product. So, for the pattern you need a few details:

  • bottom in the form of an oval (13x22 cm);
  • rectangle (25x32 cm) - 2 pieces;
  • detail for the valve;
  • backpack handle pattern - 2 pieces;
  • shoulder straps (60x10 cm) - 2 pieces;
  • pocket (15x15 cm) made of denim of a different color.

Now you can proceed to sewing the backpack. If you want to create a neat model, then every detail must be sewn with an overlock seam before work. If this is not done, then a fashionable fringe will appear.

Stitching of parts takes place in several stages:

  • First you need to sew on the straps and the handle, since these parts must be sewn from the wrong side, and then turned out and ironed.
  • The main body of the backpack consists of two rectangles. A pocket of a different color should be sewn to one of them with a double stitching.
  • Non-woven fabric must be glued to the plastic oval bottom, and then attached to the pattern. Next, the side walls and the bottom should be sewn together and carefully stitched.
  • The backpack is now almost complete. It remains to sew the lining inside, and on top - the handle and straps.

How to make a pattern yourself?

First you need to decide on the model of the bag, what shape and size it will be.

Each model should be based on a geometric figure: a square, rectangle or oval. The choice of the bottom shape largely influences the bag model.

For inexperienced craftswomen or beginners, it is better to model a bag out of paper, and then go directly to denim. This way, you won't ruin your old jeans, and you can make adjustments by working directly with denim.

The size of the backpack and its appearance depend on the pattern, so it is worth considering the sizes of all parts: bottom, main part, valve, handles, and so on. If all dimensions are correct, then the manufacturing process will be quick and easy.

Decor

Denim is a versatile fabric that is used for sewing a variety of wardrobe items.The jeans backpack is original, because it is decorated with pockets, labels and other trimmings that were on old jeans. It can be safely called exclusive.

The peculiarity of tailoring a backpack is that you can create any decor, the choice of which depends entirely on your imagination. Terry, bright laces, flowers, rhinestones or beads are often used as decor. Bright buttons, embroidery and floral appliqués are suitable for a child's backpack.
