How to make shorts out of old jeans with your own hands?

Of course, you can buy ready-made models, but converted from old jeans is a completely different matter. First you need to decide on jeans that will become shorts.

If you want them to effectively fit your bottom, then, accordingly, you will have to cut the same skinny jeans model. But keep in mind that stretch is not suitable for this due to the special structure of the fabric.

Baggy and loose jeans will become the same baggy shorts. They make great bermuda shorts.

If your jeans haven’t been washed yet, you should definitely wash them. They will shrink, and you will not be mistaken in choosing the length of future shorts. Otherwise, your shorts will be shorter than the intended length.

When wearing jeans, decide on the length of the shorts. Be sure to add 2 cm to overcast the edge of the garment (for double overcasting 4 cm). We draw a cutting line with chalk or a piece of ordinary toilet soap.

For ultra-short shorts, make the back slightly longer than the front.

We make marks on the jeans. Remove the jeans and use a ruler to draw a line connecting the marked points. Cut the jeans fabric along this line. The scissors should be very sharp. Next, we fold the jeans so as to combine the cut part and the one that has not yet been changed.This is how we can make both legs the same length. Mark again and repeat the procedure.

Blue shorts can be made blue or even white at home. To do this, use a special fabric bleach. One part of the product will need one part of water. The shorts are soaked for several hours. If you need to make them lighter, then the procedure is repeated.

The bleach can be spilled randomly in the water. Then the shorts will become spotty.

The final stage is a regular wash.

Special dyes will help to radically change the color of the shorts. The initial stage will be the discoloration of the fabric and only then the staining. The paints are water soluble.

Therefore, they can be completely given one color or create a drawing with a brush and a stencil. After a quarter of an hour, rinse the shorts in water and dry.

The so-called ombre effect looks gorgeous. It is comparable to a gradient, when colors of similar tone smoothly transition from one to another. For ombre, choose a maximum of 3 shades.

To make a fold, before cutting the jeans, decide on its width. If you want to make a 10 cm fold, then increase the length of the shorts exactly as many centimeters.

After you get rid of the unwanted part of the jeans, overcast the edges with an overlock and tuck the bottom of the garment to the desired length. All you have to do is iron the doorway with a steam iron.

The fold at the top edge can be sewn completely on the sewing machine, or tacked in several places with a blind stitch.

It is very easy to make a fringe edge. You will need a sewing needle or tweezers. With their help, it is easy to remove the threads that are located horizontally. Next, fluff the edge with a brush. Ideally, if the fringe is 2-3 cm long.

The curly hem looks very nice. First, follow a thick cardboard template. It will be a stencil that needs to be chalked around, attached to the legs. Cut off the shorts along the curly line that we have.

The hem can be folded over and sewn on a sewing machine. Leave it unchanged if desired.

Rhinestones, beads, sequins will help to add charm to your shorts. They can be used to lay out any pattern on the fabric or simply "scatter" over the denim. This decorative element transforms shorts into an exclusive glamor item.
