A sound, full sleep is a guarantee of excellent well-being, mood and health. But in order for the dream to be correct, it is necessary not only to adhere to all the recommendations that relate to the time allotted for rest, the quantity and quality of food at night, other nuances must also be taken into account. These include the organization of a berth.

The choice of bed linen is also important. Today it is made from various materials, expensive and cheap, of high quality and not so good. The greatest demand is for bed linen made of coarse calico and satin. And which one is better, this will be discussed in the article.

Which is tighter and tighter?

Calico and satin are natural fabrics containing 100% cotton. Each of these materials has certain technical parameters and characteristics. There are many similarities between them, but there are also differences. First of all, it is strength and density. They depend on the production technology. In the production of satin, cotton thread is twisted and folded into a double weave. Thus, after making and going through all the stages, the fabric becomes like silk with a glossy surface.

For the manufacture of coarse calico, cotton thread is also used, the only difference is that it is not twisted, but simply intertwined crosswise. It can be concluded that satin is much denser than calico.

After a series of tests, it was found that satin bedding is stronger and can withstand more than 200 intensive washes in a typewriter. At the same time, the fabric does not lose its quality, the colors are preserved.

Which is softer?

Rest should be comfortable. That is why the material from which the bedding is made should be as soft as possible. This parameter also depends on the manufacturing characteristics. Coarse calico is rough. Satin, on the other hand, thanks to the technology in which the surface of the fabric becomes smooth, softer, more pleasant to the body, does not cause uncomfortable sensations.

How else are they different?

In addition to density, softness and strength, there are other parameters by which fabrics differ from each other.

  • Brightness and color saturation. Satin and in this case one step ahead of the calico.
  • Price... The price of satin underwear is much higher.
  • Lifetime approximately the same.
  • Features of care. It is much easier to care for a product made of coarse calico than from satin. The first one can be ironed, washed in a washing machine at a temperature of 60 ° C using almost any detergent. With the second, everything is more complicated. The satin product must be turned inside out, pre-soaked. Water temperature during washing should not exceed 40 ° C. As for the washing powder, it should not contain any bleaching ingredients.

After washing, satin bed linen does not need to be ironed. Hang it up to dry and the fabric will flatten out on its own.

Which material should you choose?

In order to make the right choice between calico and satin, you need to learn as much as possible about each fabric. Most often, the consumer is interested in the advantages and disadvantages. Let's take a look at the pros and cons of each fabric.

Satin

This fabric has many advantages:

  • retains its original appearance throughout the entire service life;
  • looks beautiful, aesthetically pleasing and noble, looks very much like a natural satin;
  • pleasant to the body;
  • has excellent thermal conductivity, therefore, such bedding is often used in the cold season;
  • wear-resistant, soft and durable material.

They produce printed, one-colored, bleached satin.

It is also worth noting that today on the textile market this material is presented in several varieties, namely:

  • mako satin - made exclusively from cotton thread, this type of material is characterized by shine and smoothness;
  • satin jacquard - this type of fabric is made from several types of threads - cotton and silk;
  • polysatin;
  • silk satin.

As for the disadvantages, it is worth noting the high cost. Satin is the second most expensive material after natural silk. Some consumers note that it is better not to use bedding made of it in the summer. It heats up and it will be very hot and uncomfortable to sleep. When using satin bedding, it is recommended to give up silk pajamas - it will be very slippery to sleep.

Calico

This dense fabric was brought to Russia in the 19th century from Asia, and then it was called "beating". At first it was used for sewing outerwear, but when the production of such a material was established in the country, its application became much wider. This cotton fabric has a number of advantages. It is characterized by:

  • low level of wrinkling;
  • bright and saturated color throughout the entire service life;
  • lightness, hypoallergenicity, air permeability;
  • safety and environmental friendliness, only high-quality threads and natural dyes are used in production;
  • hygiene;
  • affordability;
  • a variety of design decoration;
  • simplicity and ease of care.

Calico is a practical material that is very often used for sewing baby bedding. It perfectly permeates air, absorbs moisture, and is environmentally friendly.

Currently, manufacturers produce coarse calico in several forms, namely:

  • plain dyed - the fabric is dyed evenly using one color;
  • stuffed - use several types of dyes, the pattern is rich and colorful;
  • white - a pure white linen is obtained quite simply, for this the manufactured cotton fiber is bleached using natural substances;
  • unfinished - this type of fabric is not processed or dyed in any way, it is just a woven material.

Choice

There are many different factors to consider when choosing bedding.

  • Composition... Both satin and coarse calico are natural fabrics, therefore, the composition should say "one hundred percent cotton";
  • Manufacturer... High-quality bed linen today is a rather expensive pleasure, which is why it is best to choose the most famous brand. Today these are TAS, Asabella, Viluta, Amore Mio. Their products are certified and approved by international quality control organizations.
  • Price... Coarse calico and satin bed linen cannot be cheap.
  • You must definitely pay attention the information indicated by the manufacturer on the packaging. The label must indicate the composition, date of manufacture, operating rules, as well as all information about the manufacturer.

Each of the above materials is of high quality, safe, environmentally friendly. The consumer can choose the most suitable option for himself, taking into account the characteristics and appearance. If you are going to buy bedding for a child's bed, it is better to give preference to a satin product. The fabric is softer, more delicate, not electrified, quickly smoothed out. It is also worth noting that it is more resistant, withstands many washes.

Calico is not suitable for a child. - it is more rigid and can cause discomfort. The advantage of such linen is that it is cheaper. Which of these materials is best for bedding is impossible to say for sure. Having carefully studied consumer reviews, we can conclude that both calico and satin are excellent types of fabrics.

The main thing is to choose a product from a reliable trade brand that does not deceive customers and monitors the quality of its products.
