The correct storage of bed linen is a problem that often arises in the household. Modern organizers and new techniques make it as easy as possible.

Fundamental rules

Storing bed linen in an apartment is governed by some simple rules. Before the set is put into the closet, it must be stretched and completely dried so that mold does not appear. Washing should be carried out at a temperature of at least 60 degrees, ideally with a fabric softener fabric softener.

Store it correctly in a place protected from temperature and humidity changes, that is, away from the bathroom and heating appliances. Otherwise, parasites are likely to occur. In addition, it is important that direct sunlight does not fall on the fabric - they contribute to the fading of the fabric and the drying of the fibers.

When the bedding is removed for a long time - for example, for the winter after the end of the summer season, it is still important to ventilate it periodically to avoid exposure to moths.

In order for all linen to fit into one closet, it is reasonable to have a fixed number of sets, which will be enough to meet the needs of the family, and not let them "multiply" by spontaneous purchases or ill-conceived gifts. It is good if, lying on the shelves, it is turned inside out.

If bugs with dust mites are noticed in the room where the kits are stored, or there is obvious dampness, then the fabric will have to be ironed regularly. A similar procedure is carried out, and so that there is no specific smell. To keep linen fresh for longer, do not put it in plastic bags.It will be possible to add a pleasant aroma to the cabinet compartment by laying out fragrances or lavender sprigs inside.

The average shelf life for duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases is about 5 years, although the exact number of years depends on the type of fabric. For example, artificial silk and sateen can be used for 10 years, and natural silk even longer - as much as 15. Change sets for sleeping in a timely manner, without waiting for their complete abrasion and even destruction.

Ideas

Where exactly to store bedding, everyone decides for himself. First of all, it is determined in which room the storage organization will be carried out. In fact, this place should be as close as possible to the place where the bedding is used. For example, it is very convenient to place sets on the shelves of the dressing room. Numerous pieces of furniture allow you to store things in the bedroom.

Most often, linen is placed in a wardrobe or chest of drawers, but these can be hung fabric shelves. It is also customary to store things in drawers of sofas or beds, subject to regular dust removal. In addition, it can be just covers or organizers placed near the bed.

In winter, at the dacha, it is convenient to store unused sets in chests or boxes with a hinged lid.

It is important to remember that from a hygiene point of view, it is inappropriate to place bedding on the same shelves as your daily clothing. In the event that worn-out things are in the closet, bacteria or dirt will "move" from them to the sleeping kits. In case of forced "cohabitation" on the same shelf or even adjacent pillowcases and sheets, it is better to additionally protect them with containers or organizers.

Ideally, the wardrobe trunk should be breathable and have ventilation holes. The most convenient solution is to allocate a full-fledged wardrobe for home textiles. Then the linen that is used regularly can be put on the shelves just above eye level, and the seasonal and spare sets are removed either to the highest or to the lowest surfaces.

Some people prefer to store textiles in plastic boxes, but this can cause an unpleasant odor. A much better solution is to use fabric zippered covers, which allow things to "breathe" through the walls and thereby be ventilated. It will be very compact to fold the laundry into vacuum bags.

The lack of air will protect against the appearance of parasites or mold, and the specifics of the packaging will allow you to fit the maximum number of items inside.

However, this method is more suitable for seasonal kits and things that won't come in handy anytime soon. Necessarily clean sets are put into a bag with a zip-fastener - then it is closed, and air is drawn out of it with a vacuum cleaner through a special valve. The contents of the vacuum bag should be removed to the outside every 4-6 months for ventilation.

Rigid trunks and organizers allow convenient use of space. If, in addition, select models with transparent inserts, it will significantly speed up the process of finding and selecting the desired textiles. Wooden open containers look interesting, but they do not always turn out to be functional. In principle, even a toolbox of the required shape or a suitcase is not forbidden to use. It is recommended to put a herbal sachet or a small piece of toilet soap between the layers of fabric.

Today it is customary to distinguish three ways of storing bed linen. The classic has been used for many years: every item must be ironed after washing, after which it is folded into a neat rectangle. Further, the rectangles are laid out one on top of the other, forming a stack, which is already removed on a wooden or hanging fabric shelf.

You can also just tie it up with tape and place it wherever you want.

In order for the structure to look neat and take up little space, the things of which it is composed must be of the same size. Stacks can be formed according to their intended purpose (only pillowcases or only sheets), or they can be made up of complete sets. The disadvantage of this type of storage can be called the difficulties that arise when trying to pull out the required item from the middle of the stack: you have to disturb the entire stack, and often, along with one item, another “crawls out”.

The KonMari Method is also known as the Japanese, Vertical or Mari Kondo Method. All bedding is folded into tight rectangles or triangles, which are then installed vertically on the edge. In this case, it becomes much easier to get things out, but you cannot simply put the laundry on the shelf - you will have to purchase small boxes or baskets for the size of the figures. According to the KonMari method, all bedding is folded strictly by type: separate pillowcases, separate duvet covers and separate sheets.

You should also take into account the type of fabrics, without combining different ones, and, if possible, sort by color. Categories are separated from each other by special delimiters.

A very simple and quite convenient method of storage in a pillowcase. In this case, the sheet with the duvet cover is placed in a pillowcase turned inside out, after which a tight bundle is formed by tucking the free ends. It should be placed in the cabinet with the edge forward. This method is convenient in that at the same time it is possible to get the whole set without disturbing the storage system of other things. The inside of the cabinet will also look neat and aesthetically pleasing.

By the way, stretch sheets are recommended to be folded either in an envelope or in a roll. As for the rolls, you can do the same with ordinary linen, but then you should be prepared for creases. Envelopes are also used for classic bed sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers.

Recommendations

To keep your laundry fresh, it is best to use fragrances. A pleasant smell can be achieved in several ways, the most common of which is adding softener during washing. Lovers of an ecological approach can use essential oils - for example, lavender or geranium.

A couple of drops are applied to a napkin, which is then removed into the closet. You can also just leave an empty oil bottle in the cupboard.

Sachets are convenient to use, but they have a short-lived odor and will need to be changed quite often. Homemade pads filled with dried natural herbs work in a similar way. Sometimes a piece of fabric sprinkled with your favorite perfume is placed on the shelf, or a scented candle is placed. Finally, textiles can be sprayed with a special scented spray.
