Choosing euro size bedding
A comfortable sleep is a guarantee of a good mood and a charge of vivacity for the whole day, therefore, many people are very demanding in the selection of bedding, including the choice of bed linen.
On the shelves of shops and on the pages of Internet sites, sets with the unusual marking of "euro" appear more and more often, which do not fit the more familiar concepts of single, one-and-a-half and double linen. In this article, you will learn more about what a Euroset is, what sizes and varieties it has, as well as how to choose the right set for your bed.
What it is?
If you find bed linen marked "Euro" among the products in the store, it means that it is sewn according to European standards.... Nevertheless, this does not at all mean that the product was created in Europe or special fabrics were used in the production, and does not even speak of any special way of sewing - such marking is responsible for the size of the bedding. The usual parameters of sleeping sets for residents of Russia and post-Soviet countries were adopted back in the days of the Soviet Union. At that time, apartment buildings with a small area were being built, therefore, for the production of beds, mattresses and bed linen, a strict standard was set for factories, taking into account the size of rooms in new buildings.
In addition, Soviet beds were always made with restraints not only at the headboard, but also at the footboard, which created additional restrictions for sewing sheets and duvet covers.European standards for beds were significantly larger than Soviet ones, both in width and length, which, in turn, affected the size of the bedding. Domestic manufacturers tried to save money on the production of bed linen, even despite the relatively small standard of bed parameters. The result was the usual size of the accessories for the post-Soviet space: the duvet cover is about 180 centimeters, the pillowcases are 70x70 centimeters, and the sheet is no more than 220 centimeters long and 200 centimeters wide.
Over time, the restrictions and frameworks began to gradually fade away - the market began to be filled with goods of the European standard. Euro-size beds and mattresses began to be in demand among buyers, so sellers and manufacturers began to focus on such preferences.... For beds with unusual parameters, the usual for post-Soviet people sets of bedding are not suitable, therefore sets with European standards have become popular on the market. The main difference between European sets and Soviet sets is the width of the sheets and duvet covers. Standard beds and blankets in Europe are made much wider than usual in the post-Soviet space, therefore, the size of the accessories is much larger.
The width of Western bedding is also influenced by the unusual structure of the beds - they usually look like a flat horizontal surface with a headboard on which a voluminous mattress is placed on top.
In such beds, there is no familiar wooden box, into which you can tuck the edges of the sheet. In the west, the sheet was always tucked under the mattress, so the covers were sewn there with a sufficient allowance for the width of the mattress and the filling under it.
The maximum width of Euro sheets varies from 220 to 260 cm, and the width of duvet covers is about 230 cm. This parameter is the main distinguishing feature of the Euroset. Nevertheless, the length of the products in the two standards also differ significantly. European beds are made without a footboard, so the beds are made differently - the bottom edge of the blanket is placed so that it covers the mattress. For such purposes, people need a fairly long blanket and a large duvet cover. The usual length of a duvet cover from a euroset is 250 cm, and a sheet can reach about 280 cm.
The difference in standards also affected the size of pillowcases - in post-Soviet countries, people are accustomed to large square pillows, while Europeans prefer rectangular products. The usual set of euro bed linen includes two pillowcases 50x70 cm, but when moving to the eastern market, manufacturers took into account the tastes of people and over time changed the sets. On store shelves, sets with 4 pillowcases are increasingly common, two of them measuring 50x70 cm and two measuring 70x70 cm.
Species overview
According to the method of sewing in Euro KPB, only sheets differ - they can be with a regular rectangular sheet or with a sheet with an elastic band. If the first option allows small errors, allowing you to purchase a product of a slightly larger size, the option with a mattress sheet requires perfect measurements of accessories. In the event that you have chosen the wrong size of linen with an elastic band, it will either endlessly slide off the mattress, or gather in folds and cause discomfort.
The assortment of design of euro-sets is quite large - it can be plain linen, rotary, when the pattern on the fabric is repeated, or coupon, when a certain picture is stretched over the entire volume of the bedding. Due to the fact that the euro set includes from two to four pillowcases, even with a single-color set, it will be possible to complement the bedroom style in an original way with multi-colored pillows. The type of fabric dyeing greatly affects the price, for example, a plain white set will cost less than white linen with cats, pandas or exotic flamingos.
When choosing bed linen, there is also such a criterion as the material of manufacture - Euro KPBs are made from 100% natural, synthetic or semi-synthetic materials. Fabrics made from organic fibers such as cotton and linen are very common on the market, because these materials are pleasant to the body, hygroscopic and breathable. The disadvantage of such fabrics is that they can shrink when washed at high temperatures, and they also wrinkle and dry for a long time. Silk bedding is also natural and does not have such disadvantages, but its price is not at all small.
On store shelves, there are often cheap synthetic kits that do not wrinkle, but quickly deteriorate. The most popular material for PBC is considered to be polycotton - a semi-synthetic fabric that includes the positive qualities of synthetic and natural fabrics and is inexpensive.
Dimensions (edit)
Euro-set of bed linen has impressive dimensions, depending on the type of sewing, it can be used both on ordinary double beds and on large European beds with parameters of about 180x200 cm. There are three types of Western sets: euro standard, euro mini and euro maxi, but they do not have clearly defined sizes. Producers of euro KPB are different - China, Turkey, Russia and some European countries, but this does not affect the parameters of bedding.
The manufactured bedding sets are suitable for beds with dimensions starting from 160x200 cm. The table of parameters by type of euro PBC has a very wide assortment of sheet sizes, but the width and length of the duvet covers always remain unchanged - according to these measurements, the type of set is determined.
There are several combinations included in the set of pillowcases, and this does not at all depend on the company or country in which the product was produced.
The exact dimensions of all euro bedding in centimeters cannot be recognized by the marking, the marks indicate only the exact size of the duvet cover: in the European standard, the duvet cover is sewn in size from 210x220 to 220x240 centimeters; in euro maxi - from 225x250 to 240x260 centimeters; in mini euro - 200x220 centimeters. The sizes of the sheets included in the euroset can be very different, therefore, when choosing, it is very important to pay attention to this nuance. The number and size of pillowcases may also vary. Let us consider in more detail the options for the size of the euro PBC.
Standard parameters
The type of European bedding is determined by the duvet cover, in the European standard its size is most often 220x240 cm. The parameters of the sheet do not constrain the standards, therefore, the sets contain a variety of measurements: 225x250, 235x250, 220x245, 240x265 and even 260x280. In European products, sometimes there are CPBs, in which the sheet is completely absent. These sets are designed for teenagers, so that parents can independently choose a blanket suitable for a child's bed.
The European standard most often includes a classic set of pillowcases - two pieces measuring 50x70 centimeters. Nevertheless, with an increase in demand, the range of equipment has also grown, so there are Euro PBC with two pillowcases 70x70.
Bed linen with four pillowcases has also become popular - two pillowcases measuring 50x70 cm and 70x70 cm, or all four with parameters 50x70 cm.
Maxi and mini
Bedding marked "mini" is a slightly reduced type of European standard, therefore, their sizes are more familiar to residents of the post-Soviet space - they will fit a regular double bed. In the euro set, the mini size of the duvet cover is 200x220 cm, pillowcases - 50x70 or 70x70, and the sheet can be either 200x220 cm or 220x240 cm.There are also sets that do not include a sheet - for those cases when parents pick up bedding for a teenager and are looking for custom size sheets.
Euro maxi linen is produced with larger parameters than the Euro standard, sometimes the Euro 2 marking is used to designate it. On the territory of Russia, such a CPB is very rare - it is not produced domestically, but it is rarely brought from abroad, because the product is practically not in demand.
The maxi set is designed for a huge bed, but the residents of the Russian Federation have so far only tasted European beds with a width of 160 cm.Sometimes in furniture stores you can find beds 180 cm wide, but they are rarely bought, not to mention furniture with dimensions up to 200 cm.
Duvet cover "Euro 2" has dimensions of 240x260 cm, it is quite difficult to find a blanket on the territory of the Russian Federation that will not get lost in such a huge bedding. The sheets of the maxi set have a large assortment of sizes - from large canvases 240x270 cm and up to huge bedspreads with parameters 290x310 cm.The sets of pillowcases in such a bed are the same as in the standard size, but with the exception of the option with two products 70x70 cm.
How to choose the right one?
Sleeping on a huge bed is a pleasure, even when you sleep together, because you do not interfere with each other at all. It is doubly pleasant to rest in a bed, which is made with a correctly selected euroset.
If you prepare a little before buying and carefully study the parameters and composition of the materials, you will definitely not regret the effort and effort spent.
When choosing a European set, you need to prepare so as not to make a mistake with the choice, because if the blanket is "lost" in the duvet cover, the pillowcase will be too small or the sheet will slip all the time due to lack of length, it will not be possible to return the set back. Let's take a closer look at several important nuances that must be taken into account when buying a euro kit.
- Measure all bedding with tailor's tape: the blanket, pillows, and the width, length, and height of the mattress. Write down all the volumes and compare them with the dimensions of the bed linen: the duvet cover may be 5-7 cm larger than the measurements, the sheet size may be 10-20 cm larger, provided that the edges will be wrapped under the mattress. It is very important that the dimensions of the bed and the bedding are the same, otherwise you will have to rewrite the bed every morning.
- If pillowcases or duvet cover are larger than pillows and duvet within 5cm - the products will fit perfectly, but tailored bedding can be small.
- Pay attention to designs and colors - PBC fabric should have a calming effect, therefore it is better to abandon bright and defiant shades in favor of a calm light set with a pattern in pastel colors. Nevertheless, even simple pictures can be a chic addition to a bedroom interior, if you follow one style.
- An important criterion is the composition of the fabric, because different fibers have different advantages and disadvantages. Euro-set made of 100% cotton perfectly absorbs moisture, easily tolerates many washings and allows air to pass through, but at the same time it wrinkles a lot. Semi-synthetic materials have the same positive properties as natural ones, but they practically do not wrinkle. The downside of mixed fabrics is that after some time of use, it can lose its original structure and begin to roll into pellets. Linen made of synthetic materials does not wrinkle at all, it allows air to pass through well, but absorbs moisture worse, in addition, artificial fabrics slip very much, so the process of finding a sheet will become a morning tradition.
