Features and sizes of 2-bed bedding
The assortment of bed linen in the modern domestic market has expanded due to European standards. And the design of bedding is more and more striking in its variety.
Species overview
The first thing the user encounters when choosing is matter. Popular and practical types of fabrics for bedding include the following: satin, calico, poplin and jacquard. Their properties are as follows.
Satin accessories - premium class: the appearance attracts with bright colors and gloss that does not disappear after repeated washing over several years. Satin is difficult to grind with constant use: replaceable satin things serve flawlessly.
Calico is more delicate. Suitable for couples in love to bring romance to a relationship: the texture enveloping the body and original design will help you relax and fall asleep faster. The cotton thread is intertwined crosswise. The matter is completely natural, without plastic. Differs in density - the densest are packed additionally. The "airy" composition does not unravel after several dozen washing sessions.
Poplin is woven from several threads of different thicknesses. The simplest option is one thread is two to three times thicker than the second, which allows you to feel the texture to the touch to the fullest. It shines in bright light like gloss, the material does not provoke allergies, it is suitable as a children's sleeping set. Good heat retention - suitable as a winter sleeping set. "Breathes" - a person does not sweat during sleep: the material removes moisture. The fabric "shrinks" after 4 wash sessions - get a slightly larger set. It does not wrinkle, it is not necessary to iron the poplin after washing.
Inexpensive in comparison with other types and varieties of matter.
Jacquard contains satin threads. Decent in appearance - suitable for convincingly creating the image of an owner with a refined taste. It does not lose its attractiveness in poor lighting conditions - for example, in a dim "intimate light". Heavy - matter is woven from 30 threads of different composition, including synthetic ones; the thickness of the threads varies widely. Polyester brings shine to the fabric, but the main materials are linen, woolen, silk and CB yarns.
Matte jacquard does not shine - there are no synthetics in it.
Standard sizes
In Russia and Europe, the standard dimensions of the spread sheet differ. The same is demonstrated by pillowcases and duvet covers.
European
There are six bedding formats:
-
for kids;
-
single;
-
one-and-a-half;
-
double;
-
size for two sleeping "for the queen";
-
"King size" or "king size".
The last two are vaguely similar to "three-bedroom" sets.
If you spread these sheets without rolling the edges under the mattress, without letting them hang down at the sides, they will close the bed or unfolded sofa of this size. Manufacturers mark them as Euro linen.
Double size for the sheet, duvet cover and pillowcase, respectively: 230x275, 200x220 and 50x75 (65x65) cm. Hereinafter, dimensions are usually indicated in centimeters. Enlarged: 275x297 (or 305x320), 230x220 (or 260x220). The pillowcase remains the same as in the standard double format.
Russian
The sheet made in Russia varies in size: 210x175, 215x175, 215x220, 220x220, 230x210, 240x260. Duvet cover sizes: 210x180, 215x180, 220x200. Pillowcase - 70x70, 60x60, 50x70. In Russia, some sizes are copied from European ones. The size of a sheet for adults, for example, 172x205, would fit on a single bed - taking into account the dressing under the mattress.
The Soviet GOST differed somewhat in the catalog of bed linen sizes - the priority was the implementation of the USSR State Planning Committee, and not the luxury of consumers. This also applied to children's, one- and one-and-a-half sets. There was no question of any "king-size". But the linen itself - with rare exceptions - was completely natural, without polyester and amide fibers.
General conclusion: to Russian users, the domestic textile industry offers a “golden mean” between the one developed in the Russian Federation and the “euro”.
Standard sets for a double bed are a 220x240 sheet, a 220x200 duvet cover and two 50x70 pillowcases. The duvet covers fit into the European standard, and the pillowcases come from the recent past. The bedroom set is fully laid out, the folds are straightened into a flat fabric.
Some double sets are equipped with four pillowcases: two of them are 50x70, and the other two are 50x75. It fits in both pillow sizes.
If we go even further, it turns out that our manufacturers have developed Russian European standards, which are noticeably different from European ones, taking the best of Soviet GOSTs with them to the present and future. Linen is produced mainly for single and double beds, without allocation for one-and-a-half beds in a separate format.
The European standards, which have taken root in Russia, have another subspecies - "very large euro". It is chosen by users who prefer spaciousness in everything related to bedrooms and living rooms. The bed sheet can be up to 2.6 * 2.8 m, the duvet cover is up to 2.2 * 2.4, the pillowcase is 70 * 70 cm (square pillow). This is the king-size, accepted by Europeans as the largest.
How much does it weigh?
But if everything is clear to the user with the purchase of sizes, then the last, no less important question is washing while maintaining the further operability of the washing machine. About 30 years ago, there were housewives who washed and rinsed large-format laundry by hand. Despite the widespread distribution of washing machines that allow you to easily spin 7 kg of laundry or more in one session, it costs nothing to overload the drum.
Quite often there are cases when long and heavy sheets and duvet covers get tangled and twist almost into a tight rope - due to the mixed washing of bed and underwear, outerwear, etc. Therefore, it is important to measure the weight of bedding: when the family large, and there are quite a few of them, it is better to divide bedding into batches, for example, wash sheets with pillowcases, and duvet covers separately. But “underload” is also a path to senseless wear of the engine and drive.
-
Linen on a "lorry" bed weighs 1900 g. For cotton, coarse calico and silk, these figures are 1700, 1600 and 900 g, respectively. Silk is the lightest material.
-
All the same indicators for the Russian double set - 2100 g, 2 kg, 1900 and 1300, respectively.
-
For full size Euro kits - 2500, 2400, 2300 and 1300
-
For children - 1500, 1400, 1200 and 600 g, respectively.
For example, when the machine allows you to wash the same 7 kg without overloading, you can wash 4 HB sets in one session for a one and a half bed. For example, a HB pillowcase weighs 200 g, a duvet cover or sheet - 600.
Modern washing machines have sensors that weigh dry laundry: in case of overload, the start of washing will be delayed until the user removes some of the items from the drum.
Other models may shake when overloaded: the center of gravity moves, and during the spin cycle, the machine, which is not fixed on the floor, can "gallop" from its place, cutting off the inlet and drain hoses, and at the same time forming a puddle of waste water under it. If devices are installed in the bathroom that block the leakage of water, and the machine has protection that turns off any mechanical activity in the event of a breakthrough, breakage of water communications, then the incident will end with much smaller losses.
Design options
The design of sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases can be anything you like. Monochromatic linen - for example, white or cream-colored, can be colored with stripes, appear in a small cage or “polka-dot”, while differences in shades are barely visible or can appear, for example, in red light or ultraviolet light.
Various themes - dinosaurs from movies, Star Wars, Marvel, unicorns, cats, dogs (for example, huskies), horses, minions, Gravity Falls, as well as flowers (daisies, peonies), emerald green tones, etc. - the manufacturer has something to offer. Even Ivanovo chintz is often found in a floral design.

Nuances of choice
The dimensions of a double sheet are determined by the volume of an ordinary mattress or a mattress that is comfortable for the spine. The sheet should completely hide the sides and ends of the product. So, a mattress measuring 190 * 160 cm and 20 thick will be covered with a sheet of 210 * 200 cm or more. The smaller the remains of the dimensions after closing the mattress, the more quickly these edges are hidden under it. In addition, such a sheet will evenly settle into place, it will look smooth, and in a dream a sleeping person will not knock it down.
When choosing a stretch sheet or pillowcase, for example, with an elastic band, remember what dimensions your mattress is - too large may not stretch around the perimeter, which will cause the cover to sag without taking its place around the perimeter of the mattress or pillow.
The designation of the sheets under the mattress may include information about the side, for example, "190 * 160 cm, edge 30 cm." But the parameters of the duvet cover should not differ from the blanket. A larger duvet cover will slide, a smaller duvet cover will break in it. If the material "shrinks" after washing, then add 5 cm to the length and width of the product.
The choice of pillowcases is limited by the availability of products with a lock, buttons or a valve. The lock and buttons prevent the pillow from moving under the head of the sleeper. Square pillows are almost completely replaced by rectangular ones - the pillowcases for them are mostly the same. But the set may also include square products, since the population still has old Soviet feather pillows, which regularly serve users to this day.
Pillowcase dimensions - 50 * 50, 50 * 60, 50 * 70, 60 * 60 and 60 * 70. The size 70 * 70 is a rarity.
The valve on the pillowcase should not go beyond 20 cm - this size will hold the pillow, so it will not move out from under the pillowcase. The tag indicates a subtype of the fastening element, but information about the depth of the flap fastener is usually not reported. This means that the seller must show the side of the wrong side hiding behind the clasp.
The absence of even a brief description on the sleeping set suggests that the buyer has stumbled upon a fake product. If the packaging of your double bedding is not labeled, it is most likely fake. A number of manufacturers are hiding - in order to obtain unjustified super-profits - information about the consumption of matter (the number of grams per square meter), its composition. When choosing bedding accessories, check whether the actual data meets your expectations.
For example, if it is important for you that the material is made of natural silk, make sure that it is not artificial. Natural things and linen have one important drawback - they are eaten by moths, take care of protection, for example, with the help of makhorka or wormwood.
Linen, cotton, silk and wool are the best materials, not synthetics.
Cotton accessories do not settle after dozens of washing sessions, do not wrinkle and do not require a thorough ironing. Linen is easily wrinkled, but durable, quickly removes moisture. Linen products are popular in summer, in the absence of air conditioning in the southern regions of Russia, where summers are predominantly hot.
The Euro-sheet is known to be more impressive in size. It is suitable for a bedroom set of non-standard, large dimensions. The duvet cover approaches 220 * 240 cm, the sheet approaches 240 * 280. Some European manufacturers do not include pillowcases, for example. When the individual accessories are not included, some enterprising consumers will purchase fabric to tailor the missing textiles themselves. This option is much cheaper than buying branded bedding.
