Tables in the hallway: varieties, choices and interesting examples
In the design of the corridor, a table is much less common as a headset, a free-standing cabinet, shelf or chest of drawers. Sometimes the space includes a telephone table, which is often not the most convenient to use. If a table in the hallway has become a necessity (even if it is a necessity for decorative purposes), then the choice will be definitely interesting.
What are the hallway tables?
A hallway with a table can look cluttered and ridiculous, or it can impress with sophistication and style. The point is in the table itself - is the option conveniently chosen, how much it fits into the mood of the room, what its dimensions are, what it serves for, does it repeat the function of another object in the hallway.
Furniture items can be as follows.
- Wall table (console) Is the most popular option. A narrow table is attached to the wall, on which you can store cosmetics, various little things like keys, beautiful air fresheners, and more.
Until now, such a function is often given to a chest of drawers in the hallway, but a console table is many times more convenient and ergonomic.
- Suspension - such a table resembles a wide shelf, but nevertheless its dimensions and functions indicate that this is a table.
- Dressing - a complete piece of furniture that comes complete with a mirror.
- Telephone - a small table that serves as a stand for a phone, a notebook.
There are corner designs, with and without a fusion seat, with and without a mirror. There are wrought-iron tables, but serious requirements are put forward for them, because the element should merge with the interior of the hallway, and not become an alien component. There may be elegant semicircular tables in the corridor or hallway. There are many options, but first you need to decide on the tasks of including this furniture element in the interior.
Cantilever design
This is an absolute hit to date. A console is called small-sized furniture, certainly with a narrow tabletop, fixed to the wall. A narrow table can stand on one or two legs, but traditional table options with four legs are also common. They practically don't sit at such a table: working at it, writing, sitting at the computer is unlikely to work - the tabletop is narrow. But there is no such goal from the very beginning. This is furniture that makes the hallway space beautiful, laconic, and organized.
Console tables are made from:
- wood;
- glass;
- metal;
- plastic;
- stone.
Timber structures are by far the most popular. And although such interesting solutions came from Western interiors, they look perfect in typical Soviet apartments. Our small hallways are often completely irrationally furnished: bulky furniture, a desire to fit everything that is possible in cabinets, not a very competent approach to storing shoes - all together lead to a lack of good-looking hallways.
No, they certainly exist, but some stereotypes from Soviet times make their way even in modern interiors.
A console table is the choice for a modest hallway. When there are cabinets in such a small area, it looks depressing. A matter of taste, but a rare owner will not appreciate the space, openness and light in the hallway. In almost every apartment, it can be arranged so that it does not become the storage base for all outerwear in the house.
In a cramped space, a console table and a mirror above it (or a picture) look more convincing and elegant than the same chest of drawers or a too wide coffee table. Try this concept: in the hallway there is only an open hanger, a shelf for shoes, a bench or a bench, a console table with a mirror or decorative panel, a picture above it. And not a single closet.
If it seems that this is not possible, consider what options are there. As a rule, it turns out that in 9 out of 10 cases, the closets in the hallway can be removed, since they rarely store what they need, more often they save up excess.
Dressing table
This decision is usually made by people who do not have enough space in another room to arrange a similar zone. For example, a family lives in a "kopeck piece", one room is a living room, the other is a nursery. Where a woman should put her dressing table is not clear. And the hallway comes to the rescue. If it is not very tiny, and even square in shape, this is a great option. The table will not clutter up the space and make the hallway more functional.
What you need to equip a dressing table in the hallway:
- the most lighted wall - since there are no windows in the hallway, in most cases the choice falls on the wall opposite the wide interior doors;
- selection of quality artificial lighting - the area where a woman makes a make-up, dries her hair, preps up, should be with optimal light;
- design roll call - the dressing table should not look foreign in the interior; there should be something on the territory of the hallway that in color and stylistically echoes the table.
In a very narrow and long hallway, it is harder to beat the idea with a dressing table. There will not be enough space, and the location of the table cannot be called comfortable. But if the hallway allows you to turn around, you can even attach an armchair to the dressing table for convenience.
Old things in a new incarnation
If you ask a question to several experts, which interior will be the most fashionable, stylish and beautiful, their answers will converge in one - such an interior will be a dwelling with an individual handwriting of the owner. In this interior there is a place for humor, as well as for those things that the owner of the apartment loves.
The big mistake of those who put design rules above all else is that they give up the things they love for the sake of style.Space ceases to be alive, warm, real.
If you have a hand-made table in the hallway, this will be an excellent solution. Below are a few ideas to help spark your imagination.
- Old suitcase... If you have a sturdy old suitcase that can be called a vintage thing, it can become a table. And it is not necessary to attach legs to it - it will be a suspended narrow structure for keys, which is fixed to the wall at a distance of 10-40 cm from the floor. You can strengthen the tabletop with a glass or wooden shelf.
- Table from old newspapers... You just take an already old and unfashionable coffee table (possibly from Soviet times), degrease, clean and glue it with textured newspapers, the pages of which can be printed from the Internet. And then you cover with varnish, it is possible that craquelure. The updated table will become the highlight of the hallway, no one will recognize it as an old-fashioned thing.
- Table with ceramic tiles. An old table with an already unsightly surface is taken, in general, far from presentable. But if the design itself is solid and interesting in shape, the table can be repainted white. After it dries, an unusual countertop can be laid out from the fragments of ceramic tiles on it. If necessary, the table is varnished.
- Pallet table. Wooden pallets are dozens of interesting interior solutions. They can be used to make interesting shelves and no less cute tables. You can paint the pallets, you can simply varnish.
Do-it-yourself narrow tables in the corridor and hallway are always sincere and certainly original. And the design is not so complicated that it was impossible to do without professional skills.

- In fact, this is a shelf, but with very beautiful legs, it turns into a table. An interesting roll call with a mirror draws attention to this corner of the hallway. Two lamps on the sides are responsible for high-quality lighting.
- Metallic Is a solution for those who like hi-tech and techno in the interior. A good combination with wall and floor decoration, a very laconic design of the mirror makes it and the table partners in this design.
- A simple solution that refers to the interiors of the middle of the last century. The glass on the table top allows you to store important paper "reminders", business cards, phone numbers and more. In this case, the decor is located not on the countertop, but on the shelf under it, which looks very original.
- This is what a dressing table in the hallway might look like. The mirror is chic, but the table is solid and elegant. True, local lighting can be two-sided.
- A neat and cute dark wood side table will not be alien even in a bright hallway. This attached design is clearly more laconic than a chest of drawers.
- At first glance, a rough decision, but how solid it looks in the hallway. Not suitable for a cramped and small space, but in a spacious corridor or hallway it will be optimal.
- A very fashionable model today that will decorate the home of those who like retro style. The table is not very functional, it is not spacious, but together with the mirror it creates an advantageous tandem.
