For every person who loves animals, the opportunity to work with animals is a great chance to go to work with pleasure. The position of a pet store seller seems dusty, even customers here rarely behave aggressively and defiantly. However, even such work should have its own specifics.

Description of the profession

A pet store seller is a rather vague concept. The requirements for such an employee may be completely different, but always and in all cases, except for the delivery of goods to customers, it is also necessary to monitor the condition of the living "wards".

There are practically no outlets that sell exclusively animal feed, and in any case, this is the least paid option for such work.

Responsibilities and requirements

Most often, pet stores need a sales assistant - an employee who is able not only to sell various products, but also to answer questions of interest to the buyer. That is why a pet store employee is obliged to:

  • to be well oriented in the available assortment, to know the features of each product;
  • have sufficient communication skills to contact the clientele, be polite and pleasant in communication;
  • understand the needs of the animals sold, know what kind of care they require, be able to create the necessary conditions for them;
  • perfectly master the theory of keeping certain pets, have an idea of their compatibility;
  • be prepared to work overtime to register, receive goods, or take urgent action to save livestock.

Basic knowledge at work

The list of what the seller of a pet store should know strongly depends on the list of goods available in the assortment of a particular outlet. For example, in large stores, a novice may simply be a salesperson in the classic sense. All that is required of him is to stand the entire shift on his feet in the sales area, orienting consumers to the departments of the store. Understanding what kind of food to recommend is very welcome, but in such a store there are probably more advanced consultants who will help out on difficult issues while the rookie delves into the intricacies.

It is quite another matter if, roughly speaking, you work alone in the gym. Then you must know what to feed the animals you are selling, how to care for them. It is also important to understand what alarming symptoms look like in living creatures, and in which cases the help of a veterinarian is needed.

If the animal feels bad and dies, even for objective reasons, the seller will most likely be found guilty.

Education

Pet products are a very specific product industry, experience for the sale of which you will not gain in any other area of trade. A trade college diploma is not as important here as specific knowledge and ability to handle animals - especially in small shops where no one will insure an inexperienced colleague.

Some initial training, in theory, would be worth going through in your own life on your own. In small retail outlets, there are no other living creatures, except for the most common species of fish, a few rodents and, possibly, birds. If you, or at least your good friends, have ever had all this living creature, then you should have a rough idea of caring for it, otherwise you will have to start learning from the very beginning.

It is hardly possible to get a highly specific education, and sellers of pet shops most often work people whose main profession is not connected at all with animals.... The point of sale solves the issue of training a potential employee using the “patronage” method - a more experienced, proven employee is assigned to him for a while, who talks about all the intricacies.

The salary

As in many other areas of activity, the salary of a pet store seller depends significantly on the specific enterprise and region of location, the store's income and responsibilities included in the employee's list of tasks. In most cases, such an employee receives at least 18 thousand rubles, regardless of the subject of the federation, and in Moscow, which is traditionally distinguished by higher incomes of citizens, one can claim 45 thousand rubles from the start. The upper line of salaries is blurred - according to some sources, it is estimated at about 65 thousand rubles in the regions, and in the capital, the seller of a pet store can count on income up to 200 thousand rubles.
