The profession of an information systems specialist is likely to interest students who prefer computer science to all lessons. At a time when the information product comes to the fore and seems to begin to rule the world, the relevance of the profession does not need confirmation.

Peculiarities

An information system is called a system for automating the activities of organizations, and it includes technical support (that is, specific technical means that launch the system), mathematical and software, information, legal, organizational and methodological. For example, if we are talking about an information system in the field of economics, the task of a specialist is to create such an infrastructure so that it makes it possible to efficiently and competently manage a company. It is the information infrastructure. A well-known example of a system is "1C: Enterprise": it perfectly shows how you can automate accounting processes.

Such systems are created with the expectation of a user competent in the subject area, but not necessarily possessing the skills in the field of information technology. This means that the systems created by a specialist in them should be simple, quickly mastered, and evoke intuitive understanding in their work. A person who studies in this specialty will most likely work in 3 stages: directly create and maintain information systems, provide their technical support, as well as interact with the system user.

The professions have both pros and cons. The first include demand, good wages, the ability to develop valuable professional contacts.But the obvious disadvantage: the need to train users of the system, which is often stressful for the "old guard" of specialists who are moving to work in a new format. Therefore, the developer must also be a bit of a psychologist. Business trips are not excluded, which not everyone likes.

Requirements

There are purely professional requirements, they lie in the competencies of a specialist, which he must master upon graduation from the university.

Namely, the graduate will have to:

  • be able to negotiate with the customer in order to understand all the requirements of the latter for the creation of an information system;
  • collect information to simulate a system image;
  • draw up a terms of reference together with the developer;
  • configure equipment, install software;
  • promptly eliminate the user's claims;
  • conduct internal testing of the system, etc.

But there are also personal qualities that are professionally necessary and allow a graduate to count on career success. These qualities include: analytical mind, attention to detail, contact, discipline, systemic thinking. The specialist must be prepared for the fact that the level of knowledge of English is quite high, because you will often have to work with English-language sources of technical literature and documentation.

Also, choosing this specialty, you need to understand that the subject environment of the designed system can change. In one project it is accounting, in another - a ceramics factory, in the third - an education system. And you will have to delve into the specifics of the professional environment, which means you need to be able to switch, be ready to cover a new information layer. There are specialties related to information support, which do not involve large volumes of human communication. That is, the specialist works with the machine and communicates minimally with colleagues.

But this is not the case, he will have to train the team to work with the created system, which means that you need to communicate a lot. And this moment must be taken into account when choosing a profession.

Overview of professions in this area

You can study in this specialty, but go to work in related fields... Some specialists prefer to go to technical support: and this is really very convenient, especially for those who are determined to work remotely. Often, such employees in companies do not work in the office, they can conduct business from home, being at designated hours on the resource and communicating with clients remotely.

Another profession - System Administrator... In a large company, where more than one person is working on the information system, its development, implementation and maintenance, there may be a head of this link. It is responsible for managing the team that serves the information system. In his industry, this specialist must also be competent: for example, if this is the system of a food company, the administrator must know the fundamentals of the company more than the potential consumer.

Information Systems Technician - this specialist who is engaged in the creation and / or modification of the computer system of the enterprise where he works. He must moderate business processes, creating a user-friendly system that increases the efficiency of the company as a whole.

This is a large layer of information processing activities and obtaining a product that automatically improves the work of the whole team.

Education

There are enough universities that can be trained to become a specialist in the field of information systems. The most famous of them:

  • MPEI (National Research Institute), you need to submit documents to the Faculty of Engineering and Economics;
  • Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography;
  • Russian New University;
  • Moscow Open Institute;
  • Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics.

The universities train specialists who will not get lost in the broadest issues of computerization at the enterprise. A young person's inclination to the exact sciences will help a young person in learning, and he will have to take CT in mathematics, physics or computer science, and the Russian language. During the training, the student gets acquainted with such disciplines as architecture and modeling of information systems, computer science theory, computer graphics, network technologies, etc.

At the end of his studies, he will master programming in high-level languages, will be able to develop software, create accurate and detailed instructions for system users, create servers and websites, and digitally process information. He must also learn organizational activity, because there are also many requirements for professional communication in this profession. What the salary of a specialist will be depends on his studies as well. After all, you can practice, even in your student years, and having shown yourself brightly during practice, you can really get a good place immediately after graduation. In Moscow, even a beginner can count on a salary of 60-70 thousand, if he managed to prove himself as a student.

In the country, the starting bar is lower: salaries are not at all so high if a specialist comes with a zero portfolio to a not the largest and richest state organization.
