When buying a sheet for a double bed, you can get confused, since there are Russian and European dimensional nets. In addition, family sets are distinguished, and some manufacturers produce royal sets. How to figure out these options is described in the article.
Varieties
The double bed of domestic production has the width of the sleeping bed is 160-200 cm with a length of 200-210 cm. These parameters are approved by GOST.
If we are talking about American and European beds, these parameters differ in a big way. Furniture with a width of 180-200 cm and a length of 200-210 cm is considered a double bed.
Based on these dimensions, products made in Russia are produced in sizes 210 × 175, 215 × 175, 230 × 210, 260 × 240 cm. They are not regulated by strict standards, but have the character of recommendations.
It is important not to confuse 2-bed and 2-bed family sheets. The latter are provided for wider beds - the size of the sleeping bed can reach 250-280 cm.
If we talk about family double sets, then instead of one duvet cover there will be two (sizes - one and a half).
Double sets of euro format differ in size and number of pillows. In European-made sets, there are usually not 2, but 4 pillowcases.
Of course, family double sheets will fit a standard double bed. However, their cost will be higher - Is it worth overpaying if the standard has its own optimal products?

When buying a sheet, you should rely not only on the size of the bed, but also take into account the height of the mattress. For example, for a bed measuring 190 x 160 cm with a mattress height of 20 cm, you should purchase a 210 × 200 sheet (a little more is possible).
The calculations are as follows - 190 (bed length) + 20 (mattress width) = 210 cm, 160 cm (width) +20 +20 (2 mattress ends) = 200 cm.
The larger the sheet, the easier it is to fill. At the same time, the product fits more tightly and does not get lost during use.
When choosing a sheet with an elastic band, you need to carefully study the information on the height of the sheet. As a rule, the manufacturer marks the product as 210 × 200 + 30 or 210 × 200, the side is 30. The height of the side must exactly match the height of the mattress, otherwise the sheet will not fit on it, or it will not be possible to achieve a snug fit.
If a standard double bed sheet starts with a width of 175 cm, then an analogue with an elastic band - from 160 cm. This is due to the fact that the product exactly matches the size of the mattress, does not require a margin for hem.
A sheet with an elastic band in a euro set usually measures 180x200 cm, in a family one - 200x220 cm.
When choosing, it is worth focusing not only on the size, but also on the conventions. For example, a full, 2-bed or double mark indicates that this is a standard 2-bed size sheet. Queen is sometimes used to denote euro underwear.
Finally, if memorizing the many numbers and markings is not easy, you can measure the mattress. And then buy sheets 80-100 cm more (in length and width). When buying products from natural fabrics, remember that they shrink after washing. If you buy the sheet correctly - with a margin, it's not a big deal. But if the product has already been matched against the mattress, it will be very inconvenient to use it after washing.
Sometimes the sheets of European manufacturers are in inches. In this case, the label contains an indication of this - designation Inch... By the way, special markings are also placed on Euro sheets with an elastic band - Fitted sheet. And if you see the designation Fitted valance, then this is a sheet with an elastic band with flounces around the perimeter of the outer part. Such products can also be used as bedspreads.
If you have a custom-sized bed, or the set of linen you like does not have the right size, give preference to the option with a sheet larger than a mattress. In this case, it is always better to bend it (you can lightly grab it in the corners with threads for convenience) than to constantly correct a small and slipping product.
If in a dream you spin a lot or like silky, slippery bedding, it is better to opt for a sheet with an elastic band. The most convenient are those that are equipped with an elastic band around the entire perimeter of the product.
