Features and applications of angora wool
Angora is a subspecies of woolen fabric. This fabric is very soft and fluffy in structure, therefore it is quite popular.
Initially, the Angora was made from the wool of a special Angora breed. However, in the modern sense, angora is a material, the raw material for which is the down of angora rabbits. This change in the fabrication process was made in order to reduce the cost of the fabric.
In this regard, today on the market you can find expensive products from goat hair, as well as a cheaper version of rabbit down.
What features of the fabric should be considered before buying a product? How is angora yarn applied? You will learn more about this from our material.
Characteristics
Angora yarn is imported to our country from Turkey, North America and the South African Republic. Finished products can be purchased under the brands of French, Italian and Japanese designers.
There are several varieties of rabbit angora:
- lana - is considered an elite and expensive fabric;
- acrylic is a more affordable, but high-quality and durable fabric;
- viscose - synthetic fibers are added here, so it is the cheapest.
Regardless of the type of fabric, it must be made in accordance with all technological norms and rules. In order not to buy a fake and low-quality product, be sure to ask the seller for licenses and certificates.
The distinctive features of the fabric include such characteristics as: softness, lightness and silkiness.
Areas of use
This fabric is used primarily for the production of warm clothing.So, in the wardrobe of almost every person (especially for children's clothing) there is an angora hat, scarf or mittens. In addition, sweaters, capes, stoles and other items of clothing are made from rabbit down.
The main advantage of things made from wool of angora animal is its low weight, pliability, thanks to which various patterns can be applied to the surface of the fabric, as well as the ability to warm well even in the coldest weather.
Garments made from angora yarns usually have a fairly classic cut.
As for the negative aspects, it should be noted that clothes made from natural angora are quite expensive and difficult to find in the mainstream market.
Care rules
After you have purchased a thing from angora, you need to study the rules for caring for it. So, it is forbidden to machine wash this fabric - only delicate hand wash is possible (also products can be dry-cleaned). If you decide to wash the product yourself at home, then this should be done in room temperature water using shampoo and liquid soap (do not use more active cleaners such as washing powder).
In order to wash a thing, it must be placed in soapy water for 20-30 minutes, and then gently squeezed out (do not expose the angora product to mechanical stress).
In order to properly wring out the thing, it is wrapped in several terry towels that absorb moisture well. Then it must be left to lie in the air until it dries completely (avoid direct sunlight). Next, the garments must be combed gently to restore the structure of the coat. This should be done with a soft brush.
Thus, as we were able to see, things made of angora yarn are quite expensive. (This is especially true for products made from goat wool). In addition, they are quite difficult to care for. On the other hand, they have a rather long service life and a number of other positive properties (lightness, softness, high ability to warm).
To acquire such a thing or not is an individual choice of everyone. In any case, follow all the advice and follow the recommendations of experts.
