Viscose yarn
Knitting is a hobby that never goes out of date, because knitted items never go out of style. Using modern technologies, they create a huge assortment of yarns from different materials, which makes it possible to produce both simple and complex, unusual products. There are several types of threads: natural, artificial and blended. Each species has its own characteristics, properties and appearance. In this article, we will take a closer look at viscose yarn - an artificial knitting material that is not inferior in quality to natural counterparts.
What it is?
Viscose yarn frightens off many buyers by the fact that it was created artificially, but in this case everything is not so simple. Viscose cannot be called a synthetic material, because natural raw materials are used for its manufacture - wood pulp. The technology for the production of threads from natural fiber was invented at the end of the 19th century, therefore this type of textile is the youngest.
Viscose threads are considered to be the closest in properties and qualities to natural fibers among artificially created textiles. Wood pulp is processed in different ways, resulting in a large assortment of viscose yarns: the yarn is shiny, soft, fluffy or with a sparse nap. Depending on the production technology, viscose can acquire the qualities that silk, bamboo, cotton or wool have. Things knitted from such yarn practically do not differ from clothes and accessories made from expensive materials.
The characteristics of viscose fiber have a lot in common with natural material, but not only in terms of positive qualities, but also in terms of disadvantages.Like natural yarns, natural fiber yarns can be damaged by exposure to water, air, sunlight and high temperatures. Nevertheless, this material has many positive characteristics for which it is highly regarded.
The pleasant and useful qualities of viscose include the following properties:
-
hygroscopicity;
-
breathability;
-
a large selection of colors;
-
the ability to create a large assortment of threads of different appearance and properties when mixed with other materials.
Knitted from viscose yarn, the product has a soft and pleasant to the touch surface. Breathability and hygroscopicity make the material suitable for summer and autumn-spring clothing - wood cellulose textiles will prevent moisture accumulation between the skin and fabric and allow air to pass through easily, allowing the body to "breathe". Unlike woolen clothes, viscose does not accumulate static electricity, so the magnetization of the hair and the appearance of small electric discharges will not bother the wearer.
With proper care, natural fiber threads can retain their positive properties for a long time and keep the shape of a knitted product.

Wood fiber yarn can be either completely from one raw material, or with admixtures of cotton, silk, cashmere, wool or bamboo. Mixed textiles belong to an inexpensive price category, so almost everyone can buy it. Viscose goes well with other materials and easily adopts their properties and qualities.
We propose to take a closer look at several popular types of yarn made from reconstituted cellulose.
-
Pure viscose. By its properties, the thread is almost identical to cotton - it absorbs moisture well, allows air to pass through and is pleasant to the touch. Outwardly, the material without impurities is shiny and translucent, which is very reminiscent of natural silk. Nevertheless, yarn made from 100% viscose is not always shiny - in order to remove the shine, special elements are added to the solution for making the thread, giving the product a matte finish. Material made from natural fiber is dyed in the same way - the dye is injected directly into the solution, so the dye sticks stronger than on natural fibers.
- Viscose with lycra or elastane... When lycra or elastane is added to the composition of viscose, an elastic thread is obtained that can stretch and take its original shape. From such yarn, you can knit clothes to any shape, because knitted things will have a knitted effect and will not hinder movement.
- Viscose silk. This type of yarn is 100% viscose, which is made using a special technology.
Viscose yarn for knitting is thin, durable and shiny, so it makes exquisite and beautiful things.
- Viscose with lurex. Wood cellulose filament itself is shiny, but with the addition of lurex, this gloss becomes more radiant. Things knitted from such yarn are very light and breathable, so this material is usually chosen for making summer clothes.
What can be linked?
Things knitted from viscose threads look very presentable and elegant, especially if openwork patterns were used in the manufacture, or the craftsmen used additional shiny yarn. Patterns with unusual patterns are often used to make berets, cardigans, dresses, or napkins. Viscose silk splashes perfectly complement openwork products, placing accents in the necessary places.
Viscose blended yarn with the addition of wool or acrylic is an excellent material for making winter clothing: sweaters, hats, mittens and scarves.
And also from such threads you can knit a cardigan or a vest - things that save you from the cold in the off-season.
Viscose knitting with a dash of cotton is often used to make home decorations such as napkins, stuffed animals or small organizers.The thread made of cellulose with an admixture of polyester or cotton is very strong and holds its shape well, therefore it is often used for knitting women's handbags. If you choose the right type of viscose yarn, you can create anything from it: a tunic, dress, stole, sweater, top or even a swimsuit.
