When choosing a yarn, the main criteria will be its composition and color, decorative properties. But it is impossible not to pay attention to the thickness of the yarn. And if this indicator coincides with the number of knitting needles, knitting will most likely be successful, and the result will coincide with the forecast.

Advantages and disadvantages

Thin yarn is usually called threads, which are knitted with knitting needles 3 mm or less. Many needlewomen really like to work with such yarn, although it will not be a priority in their work. Thin yarn fits well, looks incredibly elegant, but does not always fit the idea.

Among the advantages of fine yarn:

  • ideal for openwork work - the thickness emphasizes the delicacy of the product, makes it more elegant;
  • an excellent choice for jacquard patterns - if the emphasis needs to be placed on them, it is better not to find an option;
  • economy of consumption - only 4 skeins of thread 100 g each can leave for a standard pullover for a slender woman;
  • lightness of the finished product - it will turn out to be practically weightless;
  • the thread lays down more evenly - not so will be noticeable flaws, defects, irregularities.

There were also some drawbacks. And the first and most important of them is not always a justified expenditure of time. The pattern, connected, for example, on the "two", will have to be recruited for a very long time. Also, on thin yarn, arana and braids will not turn out very expressive. Some craftswomen, after such tests, are even disappointed in thin yarn, considering the labor costs in vain, and the result is not bright enough.

But as a creative experiment, as well as training fine motor skills, such material should definitely be tried: let the related thing be small, but it is an interesting experience.

Species overview

The most versatile knitting material is cotton yarn. Almost 90% of this material consists of cellulose, and it is very easy to use, and it is always recommended to start with it for beginners. What are the advantages of such yarn: clothes almost do not fade, after washing they do not shrink (if, of course, the conditions of washing and drying are observed), and this is a very good option for summer clothes. In such products it will be comfortable in the heat.

Cotton yarn is also used to create baby clothes, because it does not cause allergies. Among the disadvantages of cotton yarn can be called vulnerability to ultraviolet light (loses brightness), there is no such strength as silk and flax.

But silk is a completely different option, different and at a price as well. Usually, stores sell "diluted" silk, which contains the same cotton, viscose or synthetics. These threads will be thin, but very strong, soft, with a characteristic shine. Things knitted from such yarns have excellent breathability, which means they will wear perfectly in the heat.

Recently, bamboo yarn has also become popular. Often, bamboo thread is added to cotton or linen to make things better absorb moisture and become stronger and softer. It is also considered a great option for knitting summer clothes.

The most delicate threads are velor yarn, only thicker versions of such threads have become popular. Fully synthetic acrylic fiber competes with them, it is convenient for everyone, except that it is not a natural material.

What can be linked?

More often crochet from thin yarn, but very beautiful products can be knitted with knitting needles.

Knitting ideas.

  • Accessories. Today, exclusive items that complement the image are in special demand - handbags and clutches, hats and headbands. Fine yarns can be very handy for creating these kinds of things. You can also experiment with knitted bracelets - the work will be subtle and eye-catching.
  • Children's panama hat. This is one of the most common choices for fine yarns. For babies, such products are almost an indispensable element of a children's wardrobe. Very delicate and beautiful things can be done in a couple of evenings.
  • Summer openwork dress for women. Such things are called piece because they require special wear and presentation. And also because it is difficult to buy it in a store. True, a basic dress may be required to keep the outfit from getting too revealing.
  • Cropped summer cardigan. It will take a long time to knit such a product, but the result should be impressive. If you want to add unconditional tenderness to the image, this is a cardigan made of fine threads.
  • Knitted swimsuit. A very bold and not the easiest thing that requires a supplex lining. It looks bright, but is often used not for its main purpose, but as an element of the image for photo shoots.
  • Children's sundresses, dresses, shorts and skirts. Of course, in terms of operation, this is not the most reliable option - everything "burns" on children. But for some special occasions, the same photo shoots, holiday events, the option is really cool. They only emphasize the natural charm of babies.

And, of course, napkins are knitted from fine yarn, which again have become very relevant. For example, if a boho-style or Provence, or retro variations (from kinfolk to mid-century) settled in the house, you can take a closer look at the most delicate knitted decor.

Happy choice and pleasant handicraft!
