Unfortunately, there is often not enough space in the bathroom of a modern comfortable apartment. To compensate for its disadvantage, there is a simple solution that offers an advantageous layout in terms of space saving. Every bathroom always has a washing machine and a sink. A good way of placement would be a washing machine under the sink in the bathroom - this way you will cut the space required for the sink and appliances by about half.

Peculiarities

Not every sink is suitable for this layout. Most likely, you will have to purchase special plumbing, which is designed specifically to be installed on top of the washing machine. Such sinks differ in shape, size and specific siphon.

In addition, you will have to design the drain in a special way. It is necessary that it does not interfere with the washing machine from standing against the wall, so it is taken out directly above it - behind the sink.

Another feature that should be taken into account when installing the sink is special attention to the tightness of pipe connections through which water flows. You don't want your washing machine to be flooded every now and then.

Another useful tip for homeowners who want to implement such a layout in their bathroom is to slightly push the sink forward so that the washing machine does not interfere with the person standing at the sink.

Advantages and disadvantages

A serious advantage of such a layout, as already mentioned, is the saving of usable space. This can be a big advantage for small bathrooms.

As far as sinks are concerned, there are almost no restrictions on their size and design right now, and you can take advantage of this advantage. There is a washbasin in the right size for almost any layout.

In addition to practicality, the original shape of the washbasin will favorably distinguish the interior of your bathroom from the standardized Soviet-style toilets.

There are also several inconveniences that you have to put up with in order to save space. Usually it is attached horizontally to the wall behind the sink, which is not very convenient - the water does not drain so well, and there is a possibility of blockages. This is one of the disadvantages of the sink located above the washing machine.

Another disadvantage is that both the drain pipes and the siphon must be selected based on the size of your washing machine and its location in the bathroom. The store does not always have suitable pipe sizes. The drain assembly must be performed at a high level, because if water gets into the washing machine, a short circuit may occur.

However, with the right accessories and proper safety practices, you can minimize inconvenience and risks and take full advantage of this practical solution.

Types of sinks

Features of the installation of the structure depend on the type of sink. It can be an invoice - such sinks are installed on top of the washing machine. This is a compact and convenient solution, the sink and the washing machine will look harmoniously together, especially if you choose the right size and material.

Wall-mounted washbasins are attached to the wall directly above the washing machine. Screws and special steel fittings are used to fix them. This design gives a little more freedom in the drain device. The built-in sink has a table-type stand, and it is very convenient to place a washing machine under the countertop. Then the latter will receive reliable protection against splashes.

In general, when choosing a certain type of sink, pay attention to the following important parameters.

  • Dimensions (edit)... The height of the sink should allow it to be placed at a level of up to 70 cm from the floor so that it is convenient to wash, especially if the family has children.
  • Design... An important factor is the aesthetic appeal of the model. Now there are many options for overhead, wall-mounted and built-in sinks.
  • Set. The washbasin, siphon and waste system accessories must be suitable for your purpose. Make sure it's easy to fit them to your bathroom environment. It is recommended that you take measurements before purchasing.
  • Roominess. Most sinks that can be mounted above the machine are small. Their maximum load is usually 3 kg. Consider if this is right for you. However, this feature has its advantages. Saves water and electricity. As a last resort, you can simply perform washing and washing procedures more often than in a regular sink.
  • Moisture protection. This is a necessary precaution. Care must be taken to ensure that the washing machine is splash-proof.

Considering the listed features of different types of sinks, you can choose a model that suits your individual conditions.

Where to place?

The choice of location for the installation of equipment is of great importance. Other furniture should not block access to the sink and washing machine, especially in a small bathroom. Of course, you will also have to consider the design of the drain and supply pipes, as well as the design of the bathroom. The sink can also be used to hide any technical elements of your bathroom, leaving only the neat, stylish washbasin in sight.

If necessary, the drain pipes can be hidden in a special cabinet or a niche made for this purpose. The main thing is that they can be easily connected to the sewer, and the tap and the washing machine must be powered from the water supply. The drain is always placed behind the sink or to the side of it if you want to combine the sink with a washing machine that is close to the wall.

The countertop on which you are going to place or build in the sink should be slightly higher than the surface of the washing machine. The optimum clearance is about 3 cm. When installing the sink, it is recommended to use a building level (bubble or electronic). If the washbasin is placed out of level, problems with water drainage may arise, and the structure will have to be redone. The same applies to the installation of the drain.

Finally, after choosing the location for the sink and assembling all the elements, make sure that all connections are sealed. In the assembly process, winding or modern rubber seals are usually used.

Selection Tips

It is recommended to buy a sink from a manufacturer known for quality sanitary ware models. Such brands include, for example, the Russian company Ravak, the German RGW, and the Belarusian Belux. Buy plumbing fixtures with a guarantee and check the complete set - sink, pipes, siphon and fixtures for installation, as well as seals that will be needed at the assembly stage.

Don't forget to take measurements. When buying a washbasin in the room where the washing machine is located, you should make sure that it is not too large so that access to it and the washing machine is not difficult and there is enough space for other furniture. At the same time, a sink that is too miniature also has its drawbacks.

In any case, it is necessary that the washing machine fits under the sink without any problems and there is still a place for draining.

As for the last point - the arrangement of the drain, you should also measure the bathroom right away and buy the correct lengths of pipes to make sure they fit the sink of your choice... During installation, part of the drain pipe will have to be placed horizontally. At the same time, there should be a slight slope (use a level to check) so that the water can drain well and the pipe does not become clogged.

If you are experiencing difficulties with the installation of the structure, ask the store if it is possible to buy the sink along with the installation service. Many serious suppliers of branded plumbing provide such a service. It will cost extra money, but the sink installation will be top notch.

Successful examples of interior design

We judge how well the washbasin is in terms of interior design by how practical this or that solution is, as well as whether it is combined with the overall look of the room.

For example, sinks with rounded corners are visually more compact and leave more headroom. This is very important for small bathrooms.

Overhead washbasins look very good on washing machines if their color and size are well matched.

Finally, the choice of a specific design solution depends on your taste. There is no shortage of options - choose what you like best.
