The Alma River is widely known not only in Crimea, but also outside the peninsula. Its name in translation means "apple". This is because apple trees grow along the banks of this waterway.

Characteristic

The length of the river is almost 88 km, and the catchment area is 635 km. The artery has a natural slope of almost 14 m / km. In fact, this is a mountain river, since its source is on the northern side of the Babugan-Yaila mountain, in the Alushta region. The local river Babuganka and the Sary-Su streams serve as the beginning. The direction of the flow of the water artery connects it with the Bakhchisarai and Simferopol regions, and it flows into the Kalamitsky basin, which is near Sevastopol and Evpatoria.

The nature of the current is quite stormy, in some places waterfalls are formed, trout is found in the backwaters. At the very beginning, the river is clean and transparent, one of its sources, Savlukh-Su, is even considered curative. Its name translates as "water of health", and there is a monastery nearby.

This waterway plays an important role in supplying water to the entire Crimea. The water regime of the city is regulated by the Alma reservoir. The most massive tributary of the Alma is the Bodrak River, which flows out near the village of Pochtovoe. Near the water area, several more small streams flow to the river.

The historical description of the artery can be found in the narrative about the period 1954-1856. In the Crimean battle, Russian troops were defeated here, and in France a bridge was named in honor of this event. A little later, an asteroid appeared in the sky, discovered by a French scientist, which was also named "Alma".

What to see?

The main architectural attraction on the river is the governor's estate "Sably", in 1825 A.S. Griboyedov stayed here. The estate is located in the village of Kashtanovoye, and is considered the first local noble house. There were about 90 serfs here, and the master was active in gardening. The pleasures not only brought in income, but also attracted numerous guests. Fruit seedlings from local orchards were distributed to those who wished.

Later, the owner of the estate launched a cloth factory and leather production. There was a restaurant in Sablakh, which also brought in income. Sheep and silkworms were raised for open production, and the estate flourished as a whole. During their travels across Crimea, many famous people tried to visit the owner of the estate. During the Civil War, a hospital was formed in the house, and after the October Revolution, the estate fell into disrepair. The former greatness is gone, for a long time no one looked after the old park.

At the source of Savlukh-Su, which is one of the tributaries of the Alma, there is Kosmo-Damianovsky Monastery... The source is fed by underground mountain rivers; the water contains silver ions, which have a positive effect on many body systems. Thousands of pilgrims are sent to the source, who mainly come from Alushta. In the local administration you need to get a pass to the reserve. You cannot get here by car, but access to everyone is possible, however, on a single day - July 14th. In addition to the spring, natural beauty is interesting in the reserve near the monastery. When is the best time to go?

Fishing for trout on the Alma is exciting for both beginners and avid fishermen. Active biting of this species is observed in summer. At this time, a variety of insects appear, which are attractive food for trout. The duration of active biting is approximately until September. Fishermen use a wide variety of baits and lures, from maggots to small live baits.

Weather conditions greatly affect the intensity of bites - as a rule, the bite becomes better when it is warm, calm, clear. Rain, cold temperatures and wind significantly reduce the quality of the catch. At the end of September there is a spawning period, when there is a complete lack of biting.
