Features of spearfishing in Crimea
Underwater hunting in Crimea is the best option for such leisure in our country. Coming to the peninsula is appropriate for both amateurs and professional athletes. But in order not to be mistaken and not to be disappointed, it is necessary to thoroughly study all the subtleties and nuances.
Leisure
The warm Crimean summer often misleads people who are going to conquer the depths of the Black Sea. Therefore, the opinion arises that you can get by with the minimum amount of equipment. And especially those who are used to diving in cold seas are at risk. In the absence of experience, thoughts also arise that summer diving in Crimea is possible without special suits. The consequences of such a mistake can be very dangerous.
In reality, a good, subjectively pleasant temperature develops only at a depth of 2-3 m. But in order to be guaranteed to get prey, it is better to dive much deeper. Experienced and reckless spear hunters often go up to 10 m and below.
In those layers, only freedivers of the world or similar level will be able to do without a special suit.
Therefore, trained catchers most often, before leaving for the Crimea, stock up on:
- flippers;
- wetsuit;
- mask (models without bottom valves are best suited);
- underwater electric lights;
- spearfishing guns;
- nets for accumulating the catch (so as not to float up with each fish in hand);
- cargo belts.
Where and how best to dive?
But do not think that if you have all the equipment and basic training, you can immediately learn about extreme fishing in the waters of the Crimea. There are strict formal restrictions. Violation of them threatens the life and health of the hunters themselves, and sometimes other people.
Safety requirements prohibit any diving for the purpose of hunting:
- on official and wild beaches, as well as at some distance on either side of them;
- in ports (both cargo and passenger, and even private);
- near points of border and customs control;
- along the border water area and on the approaches to it;
- in places where waste is dumped, including sewer;
- at naval facilities and at a reasonable distance from them.
Important: there are a number of protected areas of the sea in Crimea. Places protected by environmental legislation are marked on maps, which should be studied in advance.
In some of these places, fishing and marine life are formally allowed without special tools. But it is better not to take risks and not go into a deliberate conflict with the law.
It is worth remembering the objective limitations associated with the weather.
Inexperienced spearfishers can be harmed when hunting their prey during the winter months. Then hypothermia, especially aggravated by a sudden storm, is life-threatening.
If bad weather breaks out, or a storm warning is sent, you cannot dive, regardless of the season.
Gushing water can throw unlucky trappers onto rocks. And even if this does not happen, the cloudy suspension will still not allow you to catch a lot of fish.
Where should I go?
Theoretically, good prey can be caught along the entire coast of ancient Taurida. But in the western part of the peninsula it is too shallow; especially bad with depths and visibility in Sevastopol. Some of the travelers prefer the south and southeast of the region.
At the same time, the southern coast of Crimea is bad because almost all of it is used. Therefore, there are very few places where there are no restrictions.
The area between Sudak and Feodosia is relatively good. In this area, the bottom is replete with caves and rocks. It is this environment that attracts fish. A lot of seaweed has been collected in the deep part of the sea.
The problem is that you can get out quite far from the coast only on motor boats.
Passage by rowboats is difficult. In the reviews it is noted that there are a lot of fish from Pike perch to Feodosia, and the visibility is very good. Fishing for underwater resources is officially permitted near the Kerch Strait. But the bottom is covered with silt and sand. Poor visibility is to some extent compensated by the ability to fish, which does not like to settle in rocky places.
If, nevertheless, return to Sevastopol, then you should pay attention to Cape Fiolent.
Important: fishing is completely prohibited within the city itself. But the cape has no prohibitions, and the water is very clean.
The catch here will contain many different types of fish. It is also worth trying your hand at Cape Aya and in Laspi Bay.
Species diversity
The Black Sea is not distinguished by a special variety of fish assortment. But for most professional catchers, not to mention amateurs, it is enough. You can catch mullet in the warm season. With the arrival of a climatic spring, it comes to the southwest of the peninsula and systematically shifts to the east during the season. Externally similar pelengas can be obtained most often at Cape Chameleon.
Big bison can be caught in rocky areas where there are a lot of boulders at great depths.
Quite significant in size, the croaker gathers in shallow water, full of cracks and caves.
Important: it is not recommended to catch the slab - it is protected by Russian law.
You can meet this fish:
- in Sevastopol waters;
- in the area of Sudak;
- southwest of Kerch.
Beginners with excellent eyesight should try flounder fishing. Mostly it gravitates towards the Kerch waters. But with luck, this fish is caught throughout the coastal zone. The main problem is not to get, but to find the flounder. She masks too well.
Underwater hunters with boats often get katrans. Black Sea sharks have a habit of approaching fishers and mimicking an attack. You can find katrana in any Crimean waters.We managed to catch him along the Azov coast.
Scorpions, they are "sea ruffs", live on a deep rocky bottom. Since it is a predatory fish, it is mainly found in ambushes.
Important: the "sea ruff" has several toxic thorns.
But "sea roosters" are valued not so much for their beauty as for the taste of their meat. The fish can grow up to 0.5 m. Basically, it is found at a depth of 18-20 m. The sea cock does not allow to approach and grab itself with his hands.
You should also think about fishing:
- bluefish;
- red mullet;
- hamsas;
- horse mackerel;
- bonito;
- mackerel;
- tuna;
- herring.
Additional Information
Underwater hunters should go to the Black Sea only after long training sessions. There is nothing to do there without the ability to shoot accurately. In the clear water, fish find a catcher from afar. Many try to hunt from ambush.
You should start fishing with rulen (sometimes called zelenukha).
This type of fish is colored blue-green; you can find it on rocky areas.
Greenfin is ideal for “stuffing your hand”. She is both shallow and not too afraid of people. It is not difficult to approach her. But for the same reasons, experienced hunters ignore greenfinches.
Not only sea fish, but also freshwater fish of Crimea deserve attention. So, in the Bakhchisarai reservoir you can find:
- ram;
- pike perch;
- whitefish;
- bream.
On the Zagorsk reservoir, carp and silver carps are caught. There are also many roach, perch, crucian carp, rudd. For perch and silver carp they go to the reservoir located near Kerch. More than once it was possible to catch fish heavier than 10 kg there. During the day on the Kerch reservoir there are two optimal "windows" for fishing: 8-10 and 17-18 hours.
