How to write a resume for a hairdresser?
A good hairdresser at any time was worth its weight in gold: there was a long appointment with him, and many dreamed of becoming a regular client. Of course, more than one beauty salon wanted to get such a sought-after specialist on the staff. Little has changed today. But it is not only word of mouth that helps to strengthen professional positions, but also good self-presentation. Including a correctly written resume.
Resume rules
First and foremost, what the specialist calls himself. Do not be mistaken in the designation, this is often the sin of young hairdressers.
Accuracy of wording:
- hairdresser-stylist - an artist who specializes not only in haircuts, styling, painting, he knows how to make complex hairstyles, which are more examples of hairdressing creativity than the everyday needs of clients;
- stylist - you can turn to him for any question that concerns hair, and not only creating a hairstyle, but also comprehensive hair care;
- hairdresser-wagon - cuts both women and men, skillfully choosing the best option for the client.
The master hairdresser performs haircuts and dyes, makes model hairstyles and styling, weaves, advises the client.
A hairdresser can get a job with only a specialized education. There is also a hairdresser-technologist vacancy that requires the specialist to demonstrate broader skills and confirm training in these skills.
Personal information
No resume is complete without this point. As a rule, filling out the document begins with it. Name, patronymic, surname - the first thing that the applicant writes. The next column is the date of birth. Next, you need to specify the contact information: phone, email, skype.
Some applicants indicate marital status in the same paragraph, but since this aspect is unlikely to be so important for the employer, it is better to transfer this information to the "Additional information"... It makes sense to attach a photo next to personal information. It could be a portrait photo.
Choose the most successful one, it is good if you are depicted on it at the workplace.
Individual preferences
At this point, you can specify the profiling activities. A hairdresser can do a wide variety of jobs, but specialize in a specific segment. For example, you are profiling in complex staining techniques and would like to work more as a colorist. Feel free to put this on your resume. Or, for example, you have experience working as a children's hairdresser, you even graduated from distance courses in pedagogy and psychology of childhood (which is really done today by professionals striving for career growth). Be sure to include this on your resume.
Work experience
Usually, it starts from the first entry in the work book. But if, while studying in college, you took part in large competitions, declared yourself at that time, indicate this in a separate line in this paragraph of your resume. Of course, only those who can really consider their student years as the beginning of their labor activity should write this way.
Responsibilities and achievements
In the paragraph "Responsibilities" you need to prescribe only the functionality to which you have a practical relationship. That is, describe with a list what you did in your previous workplace. How the item "Responsibilities" might look like:
- haircut;
- various types of styling;
- carrying out recovery and care procedures;
- creating hairstyles of varying complexity;
- determination of the client's hair type and advice on competent hair care;
- hair coloring.
In the "Achievements" section, you can list professional awards, the fact of participation in competitions and events, gratitude and letters from the management. If your professional victories, interviews, stories about you came out in the form of a media product (reportage on TV, Internet blogs), you can attach links to them in this section.
Education
In a hairdresser's resume, this list can take up a lot of space. In addition to the main place of study (for example, a college of technology), the hairdresser continues to study throughout his career. Seminars, trainings, master classes, courses - as a rule, a specialist is always interested in such education. List chronologically all of the learning activities that you can add to your asset.
Additional Information
If a separate item "Personal qualities" is not provided in the resume, you can indicate them in this section.
What qualities matter to the employer:
- sociability;
- hard work;
- initiative;
- readiness for learning and self-education;
- creativity;
- benevolence;
- empathy;
- attentiveness;
- a responsibility;
- accuracy.
In the same paragraph, you can freely describe your professional goals and aspirations. A description of your own motivation would also be appropriate here: answer the question why you want to take this particular position, what you expect from it.
An example of a motivational component: “At a new place of work, I want to demonstrate the new skills I have passed on the author's course“ Course Name ”, contribute to the popularization of your salon, attract new customers and grow professionally.”
Errors
There are such mistakes when filling out a resume that can be called unforgivable. And yet they are very common.
- Information overload - a summary of 2 pages is already a bit too much, 3 is simply unacceptable. Ideally should fit within 1 page. The resume is not an autobiography, it is not worth describing the life path, especially in detail. Your knowledge, skills, skills, key points in the work experience - that's what really matters.
- Lack of information. Capacious, but informative - this is the motto of any information in a resume.
- The photo was chosen badly. Your task is to present yourself as a professional. Therefore, a photo, for example, taken from the chronicle of a restaurant corporate party, of course, will not work. Of course, your appearance in the photo should correspond to the image of a successful hairdresser.
- Extra data... Your hobbies, interests, the full composition of the family at this moment are not important for the employer.
- Grammatical errors. They destroy even a resume that is ideal in structure.
- Description of professional experiencethat has nothing to do with the job.
- Inaccurate information. Make sure that the years of study and years of work are indicated correctly, the names of companies and competitions should also be indicated correctly.
- Unreadable resume... Long sentences, poorly chosen font, lack of quality formatting force the employer to put your resume on hold.
