Various covers can be used to protect your backpack from the weather and dirt. They can be made from a wide variety of wear resistant materials. In addition, they all come in different sizes, so you can easily find the right model for any type of backpack.

Description and purpose

Protective covers allow you to maintain the original appearance of such products for a long time. After all, they will not allow the material to get wet during rain or other precipitation.

They also provide reliable protection against various mechanical damage and dirt.

All of them are made of special waterproof and durable materials.

Such raincoats are most often used by fishermen, hunters, mushroom pickers, and also tourists.

Species overview

In specialized stores, consumers will be able to see a wide variety of similar products. Let's consider some of the varieties.

  • Standard rain covers. They are most often used for tourist or simple city backpacks. They are often made with special reflective details. Such models are created from thin and light, but durable materials. All of them have carefully glued seams that will not come apart even under constant exposure to moisture. They can be put on a bag and secured with a specially provided elastic band, which is placed around the entire perimeter. And also they are often equipped with small laces-ties, while the cape does not have a bottom. There are samples that are equipped with simple zippers.

  • Protective models for cycling backpacks. They are usually used on cycling luggage backpacks. These products are sometimes made with special reflective details on the surface. They can also be attached with an elastic band located immediately around the entire perimeter or with laces. But mainly such varieties are made completely closed with a zipper to protect the bag during transportation from all sides at once.
  • Camouflage models of covers. They are usually decorated with camouflage colors. Such varieties can be used for a wide variety of backpacks, more often they are purchased for tourist models. Camouflage copies can be closed with a zipper or with a dense elastic band.

These backpack accessories also differ depending on the material from which they are created. The most common are several bases.

  • Polyester. This material boasts excellent UV and moisture resistance. Even if it gets very wet, it can dry quite quickly, but at the same time polyester has a relatively large weight.
  • Nylon. This fabric is also divided into two separate types: silicone-impregnated or polyurethane-impregnated. The first option has a minimum weight, it is resistant to ultraviolet radiation, water, has the longest service life, but such a base has a rather high cost. The second option has maximum wear resistance, it dries quickly when wet, but it is not resistant to sunlight.

Selection Tips

Before buying such a waterproof case, you will need to pay special attention to a number of important nuances.

  • Volume. As a rule, on the packaging you can find an indication of which backpacks the model is intended for. Most often, you can find options for products in 45, 90, 80 liters. But sometimes there are also larger samples of 100, 120 liters. The case may slightly exceed the size of the backpack. If the size of the protective product is much larger, then the bag will significantly impede the movement of a person. A large number of models are currently produced, the sizes of which can be easily adjusted.

  • Cover weight. All covers for backpacks are made from lightweight fabrics, but there are still manufacturers who use a denser and heavier base that has great durability and strength. The overall weight of the cover will also be affected by the size of the product. Samples with a mass in the range of 100-250 grams are considered the best option.
  • The method of attaching the cape to the bag. Without the correct retainer, the cape can easily be blown away by the wind. If the product is equipped with several laces, then it will be necessary to make reliable and strong knots so that they do not creep in the process of even the most active human movement. If the model is attached to a simple elastic band, then it is better to additionally use a tie in the upper section to attach the cape to the bag's cargo loop.
  • Waterproof fabric. This criterion plays an important role. If the fabric does not have good water-repellent characteristics, then it will only be able to protect the backpack from dust and ultraviolet radiation. Also, take a close look at all the seams on the material. They should be as tight and strong as possible so that moisture does not penetrate inside and does not get on the product.
