Wheels are one of the most important parts of a stunt scooter because they are in direct contact with the road. To make the right choice for this important element, take a look at our 100mm, 110mm and 120mm wheel bearing wheel overview.

Wheel requirements

The sports scooter is designed for aggressive riding, stunts and jumping over obstacles. Therefore, stunt scooter wheels must be strong, lightweight and, most importantly, reliable. At the same time, for a better roll-off, they must be equipped with bearings.

Basic parameters and classification

People of different ages ride stunt scooters. In addition, the tricks vary in complexity. The operating conditions for scooters are also different. All this predetermines the variety of sizes, materials, designs and characteristics.

Rigidity

This is the main parameter of stunt scooter wheels. Stiffer wheels withstand loads and impacts better, and are suitable for heavier riders. The scope of their application is driving on special tracks. Softer ones are better for public roads. Hardness, or the degree of endurance, ranges from 50a (softest) to 101a (hardest). For performing tricks, specimens with a stiffness of 88a-90a are well suited.

Design

Wheels are solid and with spokes. Solid ones are stiffer, but also heavier, mostly used by experienced riders. Spokes are softer, lighter and more comfortable to ride, but less durable. In addition, the different design of the knitting needles provides a beautiful appearance and design differences.These wheels will be the best choice for beginner riders and not too difficult tricks. Also, all wheels must be with bearings.

External diameter

The standard range of external sizes is 100mm, 110mm, 120mm and 125mm. To determine the required size, you can simply measure the fork feather with a ruler and multiply this value by 2, or simply measure the sample. In addition, tire sizes are often indicated.

Wheels should be of a suitable diameter - too large will simply not stand up, and too small will not allow the scooter's high-speed capabilities to be revealed.

A large wheel gives speed, a small one - maneuverability. For an optimal balance between speed, agility and stability, the front wheel can be larger than the rear.

Wheel width

A wider wheel is more stable and takes up loads better. However, it also has greater rolling resistance and poorer maneuverability. Narrow - allows for better turns and tricks. The standard width of the stunt wheels is 24 mm.

Material

The most popular is polyurethane, it is characterized by reliability, absence of unnecessary noise and long service life. Wheels PVC (polyvinyl chloride) cheaper, but their characteristics are slightly worse.

Rubber are rare, they damp well, have excellent adhesion properties, but they do not tolerate temperature changes and have a small resource. Plastic - inexpensive and attractive with an abundance of flowers, but have weak shock absorption and high rolling noise. Silicone - soft and quiet, but have a small resource and are mainly used in children's models.

Hub material

The wheel core is made of nylon or aluminum. Nylon is cheaper, but it does not carry loads much and is suitable only for novice riders.

Aluminum is much stronger and tougher, it is better suited for frequent use.

Bearing accuracy class

Scooters are fitted with bearings Aves 7 or Aves 9. Aves 9 more precisely, it will provide the best roll-forward. Aves 7, in turn, costs a little less. Both of these bearings are well proven and only experienced riders will notice the difference.

Tire type

Tires are solid and pneumatic (inflatable). For stunt scooter the tire must be solid.

Tire drawing

The speeds developed on the scooter are usually insignificant, and it rides mainly on flat and dry surfaces. Therefore, the tires can even be smooth. The choice of pattern depends on the aesthetic preferences of the owner.

Other features

Some wheels may be luminous, which makes the scooter more beautiful. Also, the abundance of colors and patterns will make each scooter individual. Spoked wheels have great design delights.

For frequent and aggressive track riding, jumping over obstacles and tricky tricks, choose one-piece aluminum wheels with a metal core, a small width and a polyurethane solid tire.

Wide pneumatic wheels with a large diameter are best used for leisurely walks in the park or off-road trips. And now it won't be difficult to find a compromise, because you already know the classification.

Manufacturing companies

Each manufacturer strives to occupy its own niche in the market. This means that it is not profitable for anyone to produce an outright marriage. Nevertheless, there are several manufacturers that have proven themselves in the best way:

  • Techteam;
  • Foxpro;
  • Hipe.

For more professional riders, the following firms are suitable:

  • Ethic;
  • Root Industries;
  • Tilt;
  • Gradient;
  • Eagle.

This does not mean at all that expensive wheels will last longer. The lifespan is highly dependent on riding style, type of surface, rider skills and other factors.

Service and replacement

Wheels wear out during operation, they can change shape and start spinning worse. In the first case, they must be replaced; in the latter, one can restrict ourselves to only replacing the bearing.In any case, the wheels must be removed.

There is nothing difficult in disassembling. First you need to remove the pegs (if you know what it is, then there will definitely be no problems with dismantling). Then you need to unscrew the bolt on one side of the frame or fork with a hexagon, pull out the axle and simply remove the wheel. It is worth making sure that 2 wide washers are not lost, which are placed on 2 sides of the wheel (in some models they may not be present).

The next step is to carefully inspect the bearings. First of all, you need to check the play and ease of rolling. If the bearing wobbles, it must be replaced. A new one is pressed or hammered into the hub with a hammer. The hammer should be made of wood or hit through the board. Hitting with an iron hammer will surely ruin the new bearing.

If the wheels are badly worn out, they are replaced with new ones. Wheels are not always supplied with bearings, then you will have to install the latter yourself, as indicated above.

The wheel is installed in the reverse order. First, the axle is inserted into one eyelet, then one of the 2 washers (if any) and the wheel itself. Another washer and axle is inserted into the other lug. Next, tighten the screw or nut. It is necessary to tighten strongly so that nothing falls off during the ride, and put pegs at the end.

Selection Tips

Only the right choice of stunt scooter accessories will ensure good results. The basic principle is reasonable sufficiency, that is, you should buy what you need, but for the least money.

This means that the child should not take expensive professional wheels, because he cannot fully reveal their potential. An experienced rider, on the other hand, should not buy cheap products, as their reliability may not be enough to perform professional tricks.
