It would seem that there is nothing easier than feeding your beloved pet, especially if it is a cat. But it has long been known that not all food on the human table is good for cats. This is especially important if your pet is an exotic breed, for example, a Sphynx.

Features of the breed

The Sphynx is perhaps the most unusual breed of cats, they have absolutely no hair, they are also called "bald cats".

They are suitable for people who are allergic to pet hair. In addition, they make less trouble in the house, they do not shed.

But it is precisely because of the lack of wool that they require a special diet, in which there must be more calories to maintain body heat. They always have an appetite, they eat almost everything and always. Any food for them must be dosed, but if the animal does not have enough food, then it can freeze and get sick.

Food for adult pets

Both specialized feed and natural food are suitable for cats. When choosing the second option, in no case should you feed: raw river fish, bones, canned food, smoked and salted foods, fatty meats.

If you decide to feed your animal dry food, it must be at least premium. They include all the necessary products: meat, fish, vegetables in the right proportions.

They contain a ready-made vitamin and mineral complex, this also applies to special canned food for cats.

It is better to choose such feeds of European or American production. When choosing a ready-made feed, check with the seller whether it is suitable for your Sphynx, because due to the characteristics of his body, he needs feed with a high content of fat and protein. And do not forget that there should always be a bowl of clean and fresh water nearby.

Feeding sterilized cats and cats

After such an operation in animals, the risk of diseases of the genitourinary system increases. Very often stones form in their kidneys, which then come out painfully. To prevent the development of this disease, the cat's diet must necessarily contain calcium and it is necessary to completely exclude any fish.

Every cat food manufacturer has specialized products for neutered animals.

If your cat is naturally fed, then you need to add kefir, cottage cheese, sour cream and other dairy products to the diet.

In any case, after the operation, the animal's appetite will increase, so you need to make sure that he does not overeat, and give food in small portions. The amount of water for such cats should be double or tripled. It is also recommended to carry out a fasting day for the pet once a week.

Nutrition for pregnant cats

A pregnant cat, like any mommy, needs extra attention, especially her diet. The number of meals a cat should eat should be increased to four times a day. During this period, it is better to feed the cat with natural products than dry food.

In this case, it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of the cat: its age, how active and mobile it is, what is the weight of the animal.

If the average Sphynx cat must consume at least 350 kilocalories per day, then a pregnant woman needs to increase this figure to 1200 kilocalories per day. There are several guidelines for feeding a pregnant cat.

  • At least half of your cat's daily diet should be raw meat, beef is best.
  • Any fish, both raw and boiled, should be excluded from the menu of a pregnant cat.
  • Give dairy products to the animal after the main meal.
  • To keep the animal's intestines working properly, add boiled vegetables and cereals with vegetable oil to the menu.
  • One small spoonful of bone meal should be added to your main meal daily.
  • 3 weeks before giving birth, add nettle leaves to the diet, and then separately - raspberries. Plant leaves should be watered with boiled water and allowed to cool. Nettle stimulates milk production, while raspberries minimize the risk of miscarriage.
  • The amount of water consumed must also be increased and, of course, it must be clean and fresh.

Food for kittens

When your cat is lambing, and you know all the rules for feeding adults, it's time to pay attention to small kittens. Like all babies, they are active, playful and very mobile, only unlike other breeds, their energy consumption to keep warm is much higher.

Kittens start feeding at the age of one month... As the first products, you can use a little semolina or one fourth of an egg yolk.

At two months old, you can add boiled ground lean meat to the kitten's diet, most often it is chicken or beef.

Then dairy products are introduced. At three months, you can give vegetables, herbs, cereals and boiled meat in small portions.

If you cannot provide a sufficient diet for the kitten, then you can feed it with ready-made canned food and gradually introduce dry food. But in this case, the food should be specially for kittens and not lower than the premium class.

A kitten under the age of three months is fed six times a day, no more. Six-month-old kittens - three times a day and gradually transfer them to two meals a day.

There are several rules to follow when feeding sphinxes, especially kittens.

    • The water in the bowl should be clean and fresh, it is advisable to change it twice a day, pour it into a separate ceramic or glass container. The animal must always have access to water.
    • There should be two bowls for food in order to wash them one by one and to be able to give two different dishes to the kitten at the same time.
    • New foods or feeds should be introduced in stages over one to two weeks. The amount of food in the bowl should be increased gradually as the kitten grows; in order to comply with the dosage of food, it is better to buy a scale. It is important that the animal does not overeat, but it also has enough food.
    • If food remains in the bowl, discard them and wash the bowl once a day. Otherwise, the feed can become acidic and harmful bacteria can appear in it.

Always remember that you have an unusual cat and needs special care. If you have any doubts or questions, consult with experienced breeders, but do not leave the problem unresolved.
