Nowadays, the importance of a scarf can hardly be overestimated. For the first time, this accessory would have been discovered by archaeologists during excavations on the remains of ancient Chinese warriors who successfully used pieces of fabric for warming in winter cold five thousand years ago.

Over time, the scarf has changed, its functions have expanded and, finally, now it can rightfully be considered practically the main accessory when creating both a woman's and a man's image.

The fact that the scarf began to be used not only for warming, but as a detail for creating an image, was largely facilitated by the famous Italian actor Marcello Mastroiani. He was a mad fan of this subject. In his wardrobe, there were about a hundred scarves of various types.

Currently, the variety of scarves is so great that any girl can transform her image beyond recognition, only by tying a scarf in a new way, or using a new fabric for a scarf. Of course, such an amazing accessory did not go unnoticed by modern fashion designers who combine them in a variety of variations, creating unique bows.

Let's take a look at the main types of scarves and get acquainted with their names.

Shawl

The shawl is one of the oldest and most popular types. A.S. Pushkin repeatedly praised this item of women's wardrobe in his poems and poems. This is a large knitted shawl that can be worn on the shoulders or tied around the neck. Depending on the threads used, the shawl can either warm or simply complement your look.

Stole

The stole, in contrast to the shawl, has a more rectangular shape. The stole width usually starts at 70 cm. It can be decorated with tassels or fringes and is made from a wide variety of materials. The stole appeared in the 17th century and was used exclusively for heating women who wrapped themselves in it in the cold.To improve the warming properties, the stole was originally made of fur. Today women most often throw it on their shoulders or tie it with a beautiful knot.

Snood

This fairly new fashion trend is a ring-shaped scarf that is worn immediately over the head. It is made, as a rule, from warm materials, often from wool. The main purpose of snood is to keep warm. It easily converts from a scarf to a headpiece, making it wildly popular this season.

Poncho

This is a rectangular cut, in the middle of which there is a hole for the head. The poncho came to us from South America, where it is a constant companion of the inhabitants of Argentina and Chile. Since cold winds are constant companions of those places, the local population is protected with the help of ponchos. It perfectly covers the entire body, especially the chest and back. World designers are very fond of experimenting with ponchos, creating unusual exotic looks.

Pareo

Indeed, the pareo is also one of the varieties of the scarf. Light and thin, it is designed to cover a woman's thighs. The pareo can be turned into a skirt or a dress, so it is difficult to imagine a vacation by the sea without it. A beautifully tied pareo makes a woman very attractive and attracts men's looks.

Arafatka

This type of scarf originally appeared in the Middle East as protection from sun, dust, sand and wind. Nowadays, men are especially fond of arafatka. The traditional check pattern is supported by manufacturers, and a wide variety of fabrics have been used.

If men are usually tied around their necks, then women gracefully tie turbans from arafat. The image is quite extravagant, but very effective.

Bactus

Very similar to arafatka. Only much smaller and usually knitted. The scarf has a triangular shape and is very popular among young people. They wear it, applying it with an angle to the chest, and throw the ends over the neck or tie with all kinds of knots. Bactus can complement any look and diversify even the most boring costume.

Skate

Not a very popular type of scarf due to its original cut. Skate is a combination of a zipped sweater collar and long scarf ends. It is very convenient for children, as it allows you to unbutton the collar indoors without removing the scarf, or vice versa, additionally tie the ends for better warmth. It is usually made of soft fabrics such as fleece.

Neckpiece

This is a type of fur scarf. At the beginning of their journey, boas could only be afforded by wealthy young ladies; today, manufacturers have lowered the price level by using artificial furs in their production. The boa always luxuriously frames the neck and shoulders of the lady, creating chic images, but it goes well only with classic clothes of good quality and seasoned style.

Sling

Probably the longest of all types of scarves, the sling is the only one serving not as a decoration for a woman, but as her irreplaceable assistant after the birth of a child. The sling helps the mother carry the baby from birth to 2-3 years old.

The length of the sling can be up to 7 meters, and it takes a lot of effort to master all the options for tying this device. But the result exalts all expectations. In a properly tied sling, the baby is warm, comfortable and safe, and the mother gets free hands, a healthy back and a calm baby.

The sling must be made of cotton. There are options for knitted scarves, slings with rings, with pockets, with additional straps.

Klondike

An extremely popular type of scarf, a scarf is present in every woman's wardrobe in more than one copy. And what about without her? A small, lightweight kerchief of all kinds of colors and shades makes it possible to refresh any outfit. The huge number of tying options makes the scarf the most versatile accessory. You can wear it as you like, tying it around your neck, on your head, in a buttonhole, on your hand, on a bag, etc.

Buff

A buff is a type of scarf, which is a seamless tube worn around the neck over the head. Initially, such a bandana scarf was used by athletes to protect against various adverse environmental conditions. But now the practicality and convenience of the buff conquered ordinary users. The buff is made most often from synthetic materials, is easy to care for, small, perfectly stretches and allows you to use it in a variety of purposes. A hat, a headband, a scarf, a balaclava, an elastic band for hair - all this is a buff.

By experimenting with different variations of scarves, you can create your own unique look and always find a way to stand out from the crowd.
