Characteristics, pros and cons of the Spitz breed
Spitz is a very cute and beautiful pet. He is a good-natured fluffy dog, and, it would seem, he definitely needs to be turned on. However, like every breed, Spitz have a number of their own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages.
Before you buy yourself this dog, you need to know about its varieties.
Characteristic
As you know, the Spitz is a small dog, so it is perfect for keeping both in a private house and in an apartment. This breed does not require a lot of space and does not have much travel cravings. That is, the dog is calm, playful and friendly.
In addition, the breed has a number of other psychological qualities, which will be discussed below.
Dignity
You can conditionally divide the advantages and positive bright sides into some positions:
- psychological component;
- physical, physiological and anatomical features.
Among the psychological aspects, one can note the character of the dog, its manners of behavior, preferences and conditions for happiness. Physical criteria include the following indicators:
- sizes;
- habitat;
- diet.
If we talk about the psychology of this dog breed, then it will become a very good friend, a wonderful companion for cozy evenings or a good pet, because it is very friendly both towards the owner and towards strangers.
It is not for nothing that these dogs are called "dogs with a smile", because they are always joyful, active and cheerful. This will help the owner cope with sadness and bad moods. In addition, the Pomeranian is a great gift for seniors who are bored at home.Although the dog does not require any special conditions and loads for a pleasant existence, however, if they start playing with him, he will not just lag behind.
Affection plays a big role in the character of this fluffy cute creature. In this case, there is a complete psychological consolidation of a particular person as a master and a special attitude towards him. If the owner is not at home for a long time, the dog will "sink" very much and will be bored. In this case, the Spitz will just lie there and wait. And it doesn't matter where exactly, the main thing is to wait for the owner.
Adaptation
Accordingly, there is no critical difference whether the owner will keep his dog in the apartment and occasionally take it for a walk, or the dog will be able to freely walk on the lawn of a private house. Spitz get along well in any conditions. In addition, the owner does not have to change his habits, get up early in the morning or take long walks in the evenings. The friend will be able to adapt to all the features of the schedule. In addition, he is unpretentious to other pets, so he can peacefully coexist with them.
These dogs can and can be very active, they are not afraid of water, snow, or long walks.
Physical qualities
The positive physical characteristics of the breed will also delight the owner. First of all, the fact that the Spitz is by nature a long-liver. Its life expectancy can reach 14 years or more.
The body of such animals has amazing immunity, so the dog can easily cope with many diseases. A puppy can become an excellent companion for its owner on any walks. There is no need to be afraid for him that he will freeze or get heatstroke. Spitz have an excellent coat that will save the body equally from cold and heat. It is for this reason that the breed is considered perfectly adapted to any conditions.
If we talk about hearing, then the Spitz has excellent - the dog can, in theory, become an excellent "bell". As a watchman, he will hear any extraneous noises in time and inform the owner about violations. This leads to another peculiarity of the breed - loud and sonorous barking. It is a way of expressing many emotions and will take some getting used to. The dog barks often, loudly and she likes to do it.
Pure wool
Spitz are very clean creatures, which is a plus for the breed. They love to lick, love to be clean and do not tolerate dirt on their furry body. A dog, like a cat, will look after its coat and always keep it in order and cleanliness. The owner does not have to bathe the dog too often or devote a lot of time to grooming. The dog will always take care of its neatness.
With love comes responsibility. As mentioned above, dogs are active, like to bark loudly. Do not forget that they have a character that initially tends to dominate. It is for this reason that raising your pet correctly is very important.
You will have to train without fail. However, interestingly enough, with proper training, this fluffy "ball" can perform acrobatic tricks and create real spectacles.
Minuses
Do not forget that the Pomeranian only seems cute to the owner. He thinks to himself and is even just sure that he is a big and strong dog. During a walk, it is not uncommon for him to attack larger breeds with confidence in himself and his power. It is important to consider all situations in which the dogs could meet each other.
Heredity
This breed is often incorrectly bred, crossing close relatives with each other, therefore, in the family, individual puppies or the entire offspring as a whole may have health problems. Bite problems or even incorrect genetic combinations - this can happen, so you need to choose your puppy responsibly and carefully.
In addition, it is important to know that this cute and soft coat can be a real nightmare - just wait for the right season. In this case, only a robot vacuum cleaner or a good regular cleaning of the wool can help.
Varieties and description
As you know, the Spitz exists in three varieties of the breed:
- Pomeranian;
- German;
- Japanese.
If we talk about the color of the coat, then there is a huge number of them to choose from: red wool, snow-white color, black Spitz, gray, chocolate and even speckled varieties.
The greatest variety of colors can be found among the Pomeranian.
The Pomeranian is very small: its weight is no more than 2 kg. The height at the withers is also small - it is 23-25 cm. The muzzle is very similar to a bear cub. The nose is round and the slit of the mouth resembles a smile, as this dog looks very positive and kind.
The coat is very soft and pleasant to the touch and is always clean. The dog is small, hardy and will protect its owner even with its small size.
The German Spitz is one of the oldest breeds - they are the descendants of the peat dog, which lived about 2.5 thousand years ago. They are larger than oranges - they weigh up to 15 times more, and their height reaches 0.5 m at the withers.
The body of this dog is more like a wolf, and its muzzle is like a fox. You will have to take care of the coat yourself, but there are fewer problems with this. Dogs love to eat and can become overweight, so diet is important. They also need to brush their teeth, otherwise problems may arise with them.
The Japanese dog breed was created with the aim of developing an alternative breed in the Land of the Rising Sun. The dog looks like an Akita and a Spitz at the same time. The breed turned out to be average in height: in the range between the Pomeranian and German Spitz (40 cm at the withers), but the weight is very small - up to 10 kg. The long and fluffy tail looks powerful and gives the dog gracefulness.
The eyes are round and black, the ears are triangles. The coat is very thick and soft, but no special care is needed - the dog does an excellent job on its own.
A very important factor in Japanese Spitz is their reticence.... These dogs really rarely bark: only if they get scared or angry. The breed has sensitive vision - it is with it that weaknesses and diseases can occur. In some cases, the animal may have epilepsy as a congenital disorder.
In addition to possible eye problems, the Japanese have good health - they can live for 15 years. You don't need to do anything special in feeding, but you cannot overfeed.
Owner reviews
Very often girls buy such dogs for themselves, because the Spitz are very cute and look like little bear cubs. Dogs are excellent companions, and a lot of them are satisfied with them. The breed, of course, is worth its money, because this creature becomes for the owner not only an excellent friend, but also a strict guard.
The owners of such pets emphasize that these dogs are unpretentious and very kind. However, it is important that the dog can make noise. Not to say that it interferes with sleeping at night - at this time of day, the animal rests with its owner. But if the "comrade" wakes up before the owner and hears somewhere another dog, there is a very great chance that he will immediately start barking. But the breed lends itself well to training, so even this feature can be corrected.
