Lever corkscrew or winged corkscrew is the most popular tool for opening bottles. It is used both at home and in various catering establishments. There are several varieties of this type of corkscrew. In order to choose the right model, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the characteristics, as well as study the features of using such products.

Characteristic

The people often call the lever corkscrew "ballerina" or "Charles de Gaulle". This tool has gained popularity due to its versatility. It is more suitable for removing synthetic corks. But it copes no worse with those that were made from natural materials. This type of corkscrew is not quite suitable for opening expensive vintage wines.

A lever corkscrew has many advantages:

  • simple mechanism of use;
  • low cost;
  • durability.

Among the shortcomings, we can note the absence of a knife designed to cut the sleeve.

In most cases, the instrument is vertical. The standard version is equipped with one lever, but a double-lever unit is also available.

Features of choice

Since a corkscrew is a very important tool (a low-quality one can break at the most inopportune moment), when buying it, you need to pay attention to such parameters as:

  • material of manufacture (it must be of high quality);
  • the cost of a corkscrew (you should not save on such a tool);
  • appearance.

It is important to note that for professional use it is best to choose a corkscrew with two levers. This is due to the fact that in restaurants and other catering establishments you have to use a corkscrew every day, so the tool should be as reliable as possible. When shopping, it is best to test the corkscrew right in the store, as individual usability is also important.

There is a wide range of lever corkscrews on the market today.

  • One of the most popular is the tool from the manufacturer Victorinox. It is distinguished from the rest by its attractive external design (made in black). The plug lift is 4 cm.
  • Attribute Viva Chrome - another decent model with a chrome finish. The corkscrew is durable, reliable and attractive in appearance. Among the shortcomings, it should be noted the cumbersomeness of the structure.
  • Tescoma Uno Vino - a decent model, available in red and silver colors. Robust, reliable and inexpensive unit.

These are not all attractive models. In stores, you can find tools that are suitable in terms of characteristics and cost.

Terms of use

In order for a lever tool to last as long as possible, it must be used correctly. If handled improperly, the corkscrew can break after a short period of time.

The algorithm for using a lever tool is quite simple.

  1. First, you need to cut off the foil on the neck of the bottle just below the ledge. This must be done by yourself, if such an option is not provided on the corkscrew itself.
  2. Then the foil must be removed from the bottle itself, and the screw must be inserted into the central part of the cork.
  3. Now you need to carefully start screwing in the screw (in no case should you make sudden movements, since you can damage the bottle or get injured). In this case, you must hold the bottle with one hand, and with the other, press the tool handle.
  4. After the levers are lifted, you need to push them in order to remove the cork from the bottle. At the final stage of the whole process, all that remains is to remove the plug from the screw.

In order for the tool for removing plugs to serve as long as possible, it must not only be carefully operated, but also stored correctly.

After each use, rinse it under running warm water and dry thoroughly with a paper towel. In this case, the corkscrew will last more than one year.
