Knitted fur coat

What?

Speaking of a fur coat, we usually mean exclusively a fur product made from animal skins: rabbit, lamb, raccoon, mink, sable. Fur coats can look different, but, for the most part, they are still quite traditional. The design idea knows no bounds, and now on the catwalks there are ... knitted fur coats, quickly gaining recognition and representing outerwearmade from one or more strands using various weaving techniques.

Advantages

  • Originality of appearance - in a properly selected knitted fur coat, you will be different from others, attracting pleasant attention to yourself.
  • Variety of models and styles - it takes more time to create a knitted product than a sewn one, however, a fur fabric, due to its texture and a large number of seams, imposes restrictions on the range of the model range.
  • Lightness of the product - in most cases, no matter what yarn your fur coat is knitted from, it will still weigh less than a fur coat assembled from fur skins.
  • Elasticity and ductility - an integral feature of any knitted fabric.
  • Price - fur is more expensive than any yarn, even fur, especially since in the latter case, the thread can be made from scraps of skins. This does not at all mean the use of low-quality raw materials, just when cutting skins of even elite quality, sometimes significant pieces remain, which are used either to create fur coats from pieces of fur, or to make fur yarn, which as a result affects the cost reduction of the finished product.
  • Possibility of self-production - if it is quite problematic to sew a fur coat at home, then knitting it from finished yarn may not be very easy, but very interesting.In addition, in this case, you will receive an original product according to individual measurements.
  • Practicality - a fur coat made of fur panels, sometimes even with a sufficiently careful attitude to it, can be irreparably damaged due to objective circumstances. Knitted jersey, including fur, has a heterogeneous structure, as a result of which it is not so susceptible to deformation.
  • Increase in seasonality of wearing - if you look rather strange in a fur coat already in the spring, then in special cases you can easily wear a knitted cape coat even on a cool summer evening, which will only emphasize your sophistication and elegance.
  • Versatility - of course, a blackglama or sable fur coat is a status and prestigious thing, but wearing it with jeans, in most cases, is not comme il faut. But a knitted fur coat, of the right style and of suitable yarn, can be worn with jeans, and with skirts, and with an evening dress.

Models

Models of knitted fur coats are limited only by the designer's imagination and can be conditionally divided into several groups.

By manufacturing method:

  • Fully connected.
  • Combined (knitted fabric in combination with a single piece or composed of separate fabrics, for example, a fur coat with knitted sleeves).

By type of yarn:

  • Textile yarn - can be made of artificial fibers (boucle, grass), and from natural (mohair, wool, alpaca). As a rule, this is the so-called textured yarn, imitating various types of fur with a high or low pile and created for the manufacture of a product by hand, independently. The most well-established varieties are Plume Bergere de France (France), Furlana Alize (Turkey), Lion Brand Fun Fur (USA), Katia Estepa (Spain), Mondial Savana (Italy).
  • Fur yarn - used as ready-made, and, if desired, can be made independently. Patented back in the mid-70s of the last century by the Canadian designer Paula Lishman, the technique of making such yarn initially assumed the use of large beaver skins, from each of which a long continuous thread was cut in a spiral, which was then twisted. To create the canvas, this thread was tied onto a pre-prepared cotton mesh base. Subsequently, the process of making fur yarn was improved and modernized, in particular, in our time, both whole skins and fur trimmings of various types of fur are used. The number of various knitting techniques has also increased, but the basic principle of obtaining knitted knitwear remains the same.

By style:

  • bolero;
  • vests;
  • jackets, short and medium length;
  • jackets;
  • cardigans;
  • straight cut, medium length and long;
  • fitted, with a flared bottom, short, medium length and long;
  • cocoon;
  • oversized;
  • capes;
  • poncho;
  • cloak;
  • swingers.

How to care and store?

In order for a knitted fur coat, made of textiles or fur, to last as long as possible, you should follow the simple rules of care.

  • correct choice of weather conditions, under which the product is used - you should not put on your fur coat in the rain or sleet, especially if you do not have an umbrella with you;
  • gentle drying - if, nevertheless, the ingress of moisture on the fur coat could not be avoided, do not subject it to express drying near heating devices, straighten it, shake it and carefully place it on a hanger in a dry ventilated room;
  • care - in case of contamination or the appearance of an unpleasant odor, it is better to use dry cleaning services;
  • correct storage - like most things, fur coats, knitted or sewn, do not tolerate storage in an overflowing closet, try to create a comfortable placement for it.
