Previously, only wooden mops were used for cleaning floors, on which rags made from old things or towels were thrown from above, or even washed the floors by hand. Now the choice of mops and attachments on them is so wide that many are lost in it. Which mop is best? Which attachment to choose? Is it convenient to use modern floor cleaning devices, or is it better not to change the tradition?

To answer these questions, you need to figure out what a modern mop is and what types of attachments exist for it.

general description

Basically, a mop is used for cleaning floors. The functional feature is the same for all types - wet cleaning of the floor covering. The mops differ from each other only in the length of the handle and the type of attachment.

Mop attachments are removable and stationary. Replaceable washing units are also called mops. A wide variety of materials are used in their production: microfiber, cotton, foam rubber, polyester.

The attachment can look like an ordinary rag or sponge, it can consist of ropes or be in the form of a brush.

The choice of mop is necessary depending on the type of surface. For example, a rope accessory is not suitable for marble and wood, as it can leave the floor too damp during cleaning, which can damage the surface.

It is better to use mops with a foam sponge here.

For linoleum and ceramic tiles, rope, terry nozzles are well suited.

For everyday cleaning, it is best to use a cotton or polyester mop. These samples are best at removing any kind of contamination and tolerate the use of harsh chemicals. Such attachments will serve you for a very long time.

Modern models have made it as easy as possible for housewives to wash the floors. Now they do not need to bend over trying to reach hard-to-reach places. New models are equipped with a head rotating around its axis, on which a special washing soft cloth is put on. With their help, you can easily clean any floor covering, even under furniture.

Varieties

There are 4 main types of mop heads on the market of goods, which differ in design features and the material from which they are made.

  • Wooden mop with a rag attachment. A traditional mop that our grandmothers still used. The cheapest option. You can use any item (an old T-shirt, shorts, towel) as a cleaning attachment, or buy a special microfiber cloth at any hardware store. This material perfectly absorbs water, does not leave streaks and easily cleans away any dirt. Such a product will serve you for more than one year. Of the minuses, you can only name the manual spinning and the lack of maneuverability due to the one-piece design.
  • Sponge mop. One of the most popular household items, equipped with a foam roller attachment, which is attached with Velcro. The adjustable handle allows you to set the squeegee to the desired height, and the special wring mechanism eliminates the need to do it manually. There are models with mechanical butterfly spinning.

Once the roller has become unusable, the attachment can be easily changed.

Suitable for cleaning almost any floor surface. With poor spinning, it can leave streaks.

  • Rope mop ("noodles"). Such a product is equipped with an attachment in the form of terry ropes, which are collected in a bundle. There are also ribbon attachments that are made from polyester or cotton. One of the subspecies of the rope attachment for the mop is the Kentucky mop. It is a fuzzy microfiber attachment with a clip. Most often it comes with a bucket, which has a compartment for spinning. Without such a bucket, it is quite problematic to squeeze such a nozzle onto a mop. But it can be washed and dried. It easily reaches the farthest corners, perfectly absorbs water. The disadvantage of this nozzle is that it can leave lint particles on the floor. However, it can be changed to a new one at any time. Also, it is better not to use a rope mop for floors covered with parquet or marble, as it can damage it due to high humidity.
  • Mop with flounder attachment. The nozzle looks like a flat surface that rotates around its axis. The retractable handle allows you to set the desired height. The platform itself can have a cast surface or be subdivided into compartments that flex easily. The attachments for such a mop are made from a variety of materials. They can be short-haired or long-haired. They also differ in the way they are attached to the platform itself: Velcro, loops, special pockets. A microfiber mop is considered the most effective for wet cleaning. The price of mops with a flounder attachment is an order of magnitude higher than for other mop models.

When buying a nozzle for such a mop, it is important to know exactly the size that is indicated on its packaging.

In addition to the basic models, there are, for example, products with a triangular washing surface. It does an excellent job of cleaning in corners, under furniture, etc. These products are designed for mops with a triangular-shaped flounder attachment.

The appearance of mops can have a striking design. Manufacturers love to use rich colors. With such a “rainbow” tool, cleaning will no longer seem so unbearable.
