Singer sewing machine operating instructions
The Singer sewing machine has long been virtually synonymous with household and industrial sewing machines in general. But despite the sophisticated design and seeming simplicity in comparison with other mechanisms, using the Singer household machine is not so easy. It is imperative to find out the basic requirements for handling it so as not to face problems.
Peculiarities
First, it is useful to describe briefly the features of the sewing machines of the individual models. Their characteristics will make it possible to understand what can be counted on and what cannot be achieved. Singer Heavy Duty 4432 is an exemplary mechanical (or rather, electromechanical) machine. It is able to automatically sew a buttonhole. Users can use the needle threader and 15W backlight (at 220V operating voltage). It is not possible to adjust the presser foot pressure in this model.
But the Confidence 7640 model is not just electric - it is also controlled by a microprocessor. The system is designed for 141 lines. Users can program the moment the needle stops; the presser foot pressure is also not adjustable. With all this in mind, it can be said that Singer machines can have a wide variety of practical characteristics.
Operating instructions in Russian on Tradition 2250, Singer 8280 and other models of the concern
If a machine is used Tradition 2250, the accessory box must be placed horizontally. The speed is adjusted by pressing the foot pedal. A single main switch is used to turn on the machine itself and the light bulb. Replacing lamps is done as follows:
- unscrew the screw;
- remove the cover on the case;
- take out the burned out light source and replace it with a new one;
- put back the housing cover first and then the retaining screw.
Fabrics and articles made of many layers or especially thick fabrics must be sewn at the highest position of the working foot. The darning plate, in addition to the darning itself, should be used when sewing using the free movement technique. As soon as the need for such manipulations disappears, you need to immediately remove the plate. Turn off the machine before winding the bobbin or removing the bobbin case. De-energizing is optional, but desirable.
Defective needles are not allowed. Faults are recognized:
- bending;
- loss of pungency;
- violation of the integrity of the point.
Suppose you bought a model car Singer 8280 or Singer 237. When working with them, the instruction requires you to start threading the upper thread with the maximum possible raising of the needle. You will also need to raise the presser foot. It is highly recommended to turn off the machine during this manipulation. Raising the horizontal lock of the spool, put it in the position in which the thread will unwind.
It will need to be pulled through the upper thread guide and take-up disc. After that, supporting it, it is passed through the thread take-up and wound up behind the thread guide.
The 15-24 cm needles brought out through the eyelet are cut off. If it is difficult to lift the bobbin thread, it may be stuck inside the work accessory box.
On the 8280, you can also:
- sew back;
- select a line;
- perform stitching on the tops of the products;
- lead a zigzag line;
- perform invisible hemming (only experienced people!);
- sew on buttons and make four-step loops;
- sew in zippers and piping.
When you have to change the presser foot the main switch is turned off... The parameters of the threads and needles used are selected according to the material being processed. So, for thin crepe, silk and nylon, needles and threads required for working with polyester will not work. Important: all needles must be produced by Singer itself. Otherwise, the guarantee will be automatically canceled and the company will not be held liable for the result.
By adjusting the ruler guide, you need to take into account edges, folds, edging, lace and other complex elements... When inserting the needle, first make sure its flat face is facing "away" from the operator. The needle should be inserted straight up, until it stops.
Turn off the machine before using the automatic needle threader. Zigzag and decorative seams are sewn with less tension than straight stitch.
Safety requirements
But when choosing any of the listed models, as well as sewing machines Singer 964, Singer 1525 have to take into account safety standards. Moreover, for experienced people, who sometimes tend to rely on self-control, ignoring these requirements is no less bad than for beginners. It is strongly recommended that you de-energize the apparatus not only when replacing bulbs, but also when cleaning their surface. Clean the feed teeth with a soft brush only, not with your hands or anything else. Cleaning and lubricating the machine will extend the operating time many times over.
It is absolutely unacceptable to leave the Singer appliance connected to the mains unattended. It should be monitored by adults and people who are well versed in technical matters. It is necessary to keep away from these devices not only children, but also those who have impairments of intellect, perception and even memory.
Any details not specified in the technical documentation cannot be used. And even what is indicated there must be officially done by the manufacturer.
It is strictly forbidden to switch on the machine with a damaged plug or wire. Also, do not use loose, sparking, or improperly grounded electrical outlets. The machine itself must be protected from the build-up of static electricity. Do not allow anything to be grounded to it.During operation and while the Singer is not de-energized, do not touch other metal objects at the same time.
It is forbidden to use machines with blocked ventilation passages. During work, it is forbidden to touch the moving parts with your fingers or any other part of the body. The speed of movement of these parts does not matter. The stitch plate is selected strictly according to the size and type of needle used. Otherwise, it may end with the destruction of the needle and the scattering of sharp fragments in different directions.
Singer sewing machines are only suitable for use in dry ventilated rooms with normal room temperature, with minimal dust and humidity. There should be no corrosive substances of any kind in the air, of course. Important: any aerosols, sprays, and other suspensions can disrupt the operation of the machine. Attempts to speed up the process by pulling up the fabric often lead to malfunctions.
