Traditional decoration

According to the established tradition, for a festive feast, the table is almost always covered with a white tablecloth. But in order for it not to seem boring and everyday, you can add a few nuances:

  • use contrasting napkins;
  • put an additional lace cape on top;
  • use bright coasters (for example, in the form of flowers or hearts).

Lace is very suitable for decoration. It can be used to process the edge of a tablecloth of almost any shape: square, rectangular, oval or round. In order to do this, several components must be prepared.

  1. Lace or braid. It is very important here to choose the right not only the length of the edging, but also its color. If the fabric is white, you can use lace of the same color, but you need it to be sewn exactly to the edge. You can also choose and contrasting shades (blue, red, green).
  2. Scissors.
  3. A needle and thread.

It is very easy to modernize the tablecloth by decorating its edge. It is necessary to cut off the required amount of braid or lace (depending on the selected material) and, armed with a needle and thread, sew the edging. So, even the simplest chintz tablecloth can be turned into a festive one with your own hands. The result of the work done should be something like the one shown in the figure.

You can also decorate with special tracks for decoration. These accessories look like stripes that spread over the top of the tablecloth. In most cases, they have a contrasting color. You can buy them in the store or make them yourself, for example, crochet them. And in fact, and in another case, it will turn out equally beautiful. Illustrative examples are presented in the figures.

An important point! Such strips can be used as an independent element, that is, they can be placed not on the tablecloth, but directly on the central part of the table.

Unusual decor

If the lace sewn on the edge is not enough, you can additionally use thermal stickers or special applications. You can buy them in the store, and then glue them yourself on the most ordinary tablecloth. This is easy to do:

  • mark the place where the sticker will be located;
  • then it must be glued according to the attached instructions (an iron is often used for this purpose);
  • wash the tablecloth on a delicate cycle.

As a result, even the most ordinary tablecloth will turn into a festive one. This decoration option is clearly shown in the figure.

Interesting fact! A narrow strip that is spread over the tablecloth is called a naperon.

Thematic decoration

There is an opinion that a good hostess should have its own tablecloth for each holiday. But, in fact, it is completely unnecessary to buy them in several pieces. You can have 1-2 tablecloths, but at the same time get a thematic decor.

For this purpose, it will be possible to use all the same decorative stripes. For example, the option below is suitable for Halloween.

But the strip shown in the following picture can be used for New Year or Christmas.

You can make a thematic design not only with naperona... Any decor can be done by yourself. To do this, you will need to purchase a transparent polyethylene covering, which will be the same size as the main canvas. You also need to prepare stickers that are glued specifically to polyethylene. Original examples are shown in the figures.

Even the most ordinary chintz tablecloth can be turned into a worthy table decoration. The most important thing is to have the necessary materials for decoration on hand, as well as to show imagination.
