Scrapbooking has long taken its place of honor as a form of applied art. Craftswomen fell in love with this technique not in vain, because with the help of it you can create a huge number of masterpieces.

What is scrapbooking?

First, let's talk briefly about the technique itself. The literal translation is "a book of clippings". The first mentions of this type of creativity originate in 1958 in England, then the technique spreads further, and in the 17th century scrapbooking has already acquired its modern form. If earlier newspaper clippings were collected and pasted into a book or notebook, then later masters began to draw up poems, quotes, engravings and more in the form of collages from clippings of printed publications and memorabilia. But the real possibilities for the development of scrapbooking opened up in the era of the appearance of the first photographs.

In the modern world, using this technique, not only photo albums and frames are made, but also postcards on any topic, calendars, recipe books, wedding wish books, notebooks, diaries, notebooks and document covers. In this article, we'll look at ideas on how to make a photo frame.

Master class for beginners

To make a simple scrapbooking photo frame, the following materials will be needed:

  • beer cardboard;
  • ruler;
  • glue;
  • the cloth:
  • satin ribbon;
  • felling;
  • scrap paper;
  • utility knife or scissors.

Make a piece of cardboard measuring 15x15 centimeters. Cut out a 9x9 cm window inside. To round off the corners, you can use a coin to attach it to the corner and draw the rounding. Thus, every corner will be even and the same.Cut the next part to a size of 15x3.5 centimeters.

Step back 2 centimeters from the top and make several cuts so that part of the cardboard folds back. This will be a kind of leg for the frame.

Next, prepare the fabric by making it 1.5 centimeters larger on each side. Glue the cardboard to the fabric, and then cut diagonally from each corner to cut out the window. Cut off excess material. Fix with glue on the back of the frame. Cover part number two with a cloth as well. Take 12 centimeters of satin ribbon and fix one end on the leg for the photo frame on the side where there is no fold. Cut a 12.5x3 centimeters rectangle out of scrap paper and glue it on the back of the leg, just to the fold.

Next, from a less dense cardboard, cut out a workpiece 14x14 centimeters, round the corners, step back 2 centimeters on each side and cut a square. This will be the back piece of the frame. Before connecting it, you need to fix the other end of the satin ribbon in the middle of the photo frame on the lower part, and glue the back part from above.

Next, from the same scrap paper, cut out a 12x12 centimeters square. Mark the side from which the photo will be inserted by making a small hole at the edge. Spread glue on three sides, avoiding the one on which you made the mark, and glue to the back of the frame. After that, fix the leg on top, with the part that bends. Mark the center and fix.

Flip the product right side up and decorate as you like using different cutouts, lace, feathers, beads, and so on. It all depends on the imagination.

Making a triple photo frame

Consider the step-by-step instructions for making a triple soft photo frame with your own hands, this master class is already suitable for more advanced masters. You will need:

  • binding cardboard;
  • scrap paper;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • logging and other decor at your discretion;
  • sewing machine;
  • fabric of two types;
  • stationery knife.

To begin with, you need to outline the dimensions of the future frame on cardboard. If you are making 10x15 for a photo, then you will need three 14x19 cuts and 2 connecting jumpers with scoring 0.5 and 1.8 centimeters. The jumpers have dimensions of 2x19 and 3.5x19 centimeters. Connect the three pieces to the jumpers with glue. Next, you need to cut the synthetic winterizer to size so that it is enough for the entire surface, in one layer.

After the synthetic winterizer has been glued, you can proceed to the fabric upholstery. Cut and sew together two pieces of fabric one and a half centimeters larger than the photo frame itself in order to make the folds. Next, on the resulting canvas on the back, we put our triple frame and glue the excess fabric to the cardboard on each side, carefully bending the corners. We pay special attention to the jumpers so that the frame bends easily. Further, on each of the jumpers we glue a piece of fabric additionally.

We pass the places along the fold with a ruler or something similar to secure and avoid pulling the material. After that, we sew the cover on a sewing machine, stepping back three to four millimeters from the edge. The next step will be to create the files themselves, where the photos will be inserted. To do this, cut out six rectangles of the same size from scrap paper in harmony with the color of the fabric. You can use paper of several colors, so it will look more interesting.

Lay out the sheets so that they are slightly smaller than the cover. In the three rectangles, step back two centimeters on each side and cut the holes with a clerical knife. Glue three sides to the other three pieces. Each piece is glued with the front side. If you have double-sided paper, then choose the color scheme that suits and looks more beautiful.

Do not glue on top, it is there that photographs will be inserted later. Then sew everything on the sewing machine, stepping back three millimeters and avoiding the top.If you want to fasten the frame so that it does not open, you can use an elastic band. Use a hole punch to make holes at the top and bottom, in the middle of the cover, and secure with eyelets.

Now the finished blanks need to be glued to the cover. For this it is better to use Moment glue. The photo frame is almost ready. It remains only to decorate it. For decoration, use various cuttings, metal decorations, ribbons, bows, flowers, and so on.

Depending on who you are designing the product for, the decor may be different. If this is a children's frame, then you can decorate it with pictures of different animals, cartoon characters. If the cut is flat and thin paper, then to seal, glue the picture to thick cardboard and cut along the contour. This is especially true if the character protrudes beyond the edges of the front cover. Thus, it is possible to increase the total volume of the product by gluing parts of various densities and thicknesses.

The more voluminous the decoration, the more interesting the product looks. A well-chosen application of several parts will always make the craft more varied and unusual. If a product is being prepared for a man, then there will be a lot of jewelry for this case too. For example, decorating an accessory using origami technique. You can make a shirt with a tie or a tuxedo with a bow tie; top hat, pince-nez, various mustache, sunglasses are popular.

You can combine this with thin plywood typewriters, toppers, printouts with the necessary phrases, and other details of the male theme. There are jewelry for women too. Moreover, you can make a postcard on any topic and for any reason:

  • wedding;
  • birthday;
  • anniversary;
  • birth of a child;
  • wedding anniversary;
  • St. Valentine's Day;
  • housewarming.

How to make a metal product?

Metal frames are often used for decoration. To make such a structure, you will need:

  • a sheet of thin copper or aluminum;
  • awl;
  • small hammer;
  • scissors for metal;
  • marker.

    First, draw a frame on paper, cut it out, then stencil it onto a sheet of metal. Use metal scissors to cut the workpiece. To cut it out, drill a hole in the middle with a thick drill and remove the excess with scissors.

    Now there is painstaking work ahead. Mark with a marker the pattern that you want to create. If you need simple lines, then you can make them with an awl, simply tracing along the contour with a certain pressure. This must be done carefully so as not to draw through. The bitmap is created by tapping with a hammer over the awl. Shots should be light and accurate.

    Depending on what kind of bulge is specifically needed, you can use various tools: screws, self-tapping screws, knives for cutting wood, edges of coins, scalpels. You can also use a punching tool that will take thin metal. It all depends on the size and shape of the future frame.

          Carefully study what materials the machine is intended for, so as not to spoil the material and the device. Also, if you need additional holes, you can use regular and curly hole punches.

          Another way to create a frame for metal is this is a workpiece made of polymer clay, dough, plasticine, gypsum. This may require a form.

          But if the motor skills of the hands are good, then you can do without it. Blind the desired frame shape, go over the top with PVA glue or primer. Further, you can use plates of gold leaf, silver, copper and others. Or glue the foil.
