Scrapbooking is an actively growing hobby among creative people. Initially, it was a decoration for photo albums using scrap materials, sewing supplies, printed products, fabrics and jewelry. Currently, the scope of distribution of this hobby has expanded, and now many items for various purposes are made out using the scrapbooking technique.

As a rule, it is used to decorate interior elements, souvenirs or even some household appliances.

What materials should be prepared?

Most of the basic items can be found at home. Such common details include magazines, fabrics, buttons, threads, lace, beads. However, the available materials do not always correspond to the conceived concept in color and size, therefore, you can buy what you need in handicraft or sewing stores, as well as in hobby hypermarkets in many cities.

In order to design postcards and other items in a similar style, most often, in addition to inspiration, you need a basic set of materials and tools, which include the following elements.

  • Sewing machine... Thanks to her, the craft gets rid of uneven seams, protruding threads, making it look more aesthetic.
  • This hobby cannot be dispensed with scissors, and you will need scissors of various sizes. The larger ones are useful for cutting fabrics and paper, and with the help of small or even curly ones, you can cut small parts out of materials.
  • Colored paper you will need both plain and with an abstract pattern. The texture of the paper can be velvety or thinner.
  • In addition to ordinary colored paper, you will find it useful special, created specifically for scrapbooking... It is distinguished by a higher density of material, as well as a rather long service life.
  • Fabrics almost any color and pattern are also selected, depending on your creative ideas.
  • Useful elements will be ribbonsmade from satin and lace.
  • Decor is rarely complete without beads and decorative stones, often made to look like natural materials such as pearls or amber.
  • Some crafts require adding printed elements, for example, magazine clippings. It is better to use pages made of thick paper, as thin sheets of paper do not always work well with glue.
  • In addition to the aforementioned glue, also suitable materials for bonding are different types of scotch tapes - plain and double-sided. Do not forget that the adhesive tape can have different thicknesses, and not all types of glue are suitable for gluing fabrics.

Simple ideas for beginners

Those who are still just comprehending the basics of scrapbooking techniques should learn to create with their own hands, first, light crafts that do not require complex shapes and a large amount of materials. As options for beginners, you can use the following:

Card

The simplest thing that can be done using the scrapbooking technique is a postcard. It can be a greeting card for a specific person, for example, for a birthday, or a universal holiday card with a New Year theme, or a Valentine's card for Valentine's Day. Based on the reason, you need to think over the combination of colors in advance.

The main materials will be a sheet of colored paper, a landscape sheet, shiny paper of at least two colors on a self-adhesive base, a pencil, scissors, and a ruler. The manufacturing process will include several stages:

  • you need to bend the colored paper in half, then glitter paper is glued to the front of the future postcard with an indent from the edges of 5 mm;
  • a piece of a landscape sheet is glued inside the shiny paper, at a distance of 1.5 cm from the edges;
  • the white space is filled with applique elements, various figures cut out of colored and shiny paper, as well as congratulations;
  • for a wider variety of designs, you can write letters using calligraphic fonts.

The photo

If you want to decorate the wall with a photo in an unusual manner, then instead of the traditional frame, decorate the space on the wall with colored tape, gluing multi-colored stripes in a row, and then attach the photo itself with glue or double-sided tape. It is better if it is in a large format. If desired, the space around the edges of the tape can also be pasted over with clippings from magazines corresponding to the subject of the photo.

You can make an original wall photo booklet based on a city guide. It should be folded like an accordion, while gluing the side with the cover with bright paper. On the remaining sides, place your printed travel photos directly on the text of the guide.

You can also attach additional memorabilia - tickets, travel passes or other small memorabilia.

Envelope for small things

To store small pieces of paper, small office supplies and other pleasant little things, you can make envelopes from notebook sheets. The notebook sheet, which will serve as the back of the envelope, should be decorated with various magazine clippings, you can also glue a volumetric applique on the top or attach a small calendar. Half of the sheet should be sealed around the edges with another sheet of paper, so that a pocket is formed.

This half can also be decorated with appliqué or inscriptions.

The cover creation process is carried out according to the following algorithm.

  • First, on thick paper with dimensions of 13.5x7 cm, scoring lines with a thickness of 1 cm should be applied, which will create a soft fold of the future cover. These lines are applied either with a special board, or with a ruler and knitting needles.
  • Next, glue cardboard elements with dimensions of 9.5x13.5 cm to this piece of thick paper. To make the cover softer, its frame can be additionally pasted over with padding polyester.
  • Place the blank on the wrong side of the fabric and glue the top and bottom ends to the cover with a glue stick. Also secure the sides, keeping in mind the neatness at the corners.
  • Then sew along the perimeter of the cover with a sewing machine and carefully hide the threads on the inside.
  • The inside of the cover can also be pasted over with a cloth of the same color.
  • Using pieces of paper for scrapbooking with dimensions of 9.2x13.2 cm, as well as 15.2x5 cm (2 pieces each), you need to create endpapers for the crust with pockets.
  • At a distance of 1 cm from the edge, make a fold, while cutting off the corners. When gluing the pockets to the side parts, you need to make sure that the distance is the same on all sides. The use of clamps will help with this.
