How to make a calendar using scrapbooking technique?
A calendar is an irreplaceable thing in any home. Today you can find various versions of this product. But scrapbook-style calendars are especially good. They are made by hand, so the appearance of the products is original and unique.
About technique
Scrapbooking is translated from English as "a book of scrapbooks." Indeed, this type of handicraft involves the creative design of organizers, photo albums, postcards and calendars. Every year this hobby is gaining more and more importance in Russia. Thanks to this technique, you can show your creative imagination and create a unique thing that will delight not only loved ones, but also friends.
In addition, such products become a kind of heritage that can be passed on from generation to generation.
Materials and tools
To create calendars (desktop and wall) in the scrapbooking style, you will need:
- beer cardboard and thin kraft paper;
- scrap paper (1-2 sheets);
- a picture (for example, an image of children decorating a Christmas tree);
- calendar grid (by month);
- braid;
- lace stripes, metal pendant, beads and decorative multi-colored stones;
- scissors;
- breadboard knife and cutter;
- glue;
- ruler;
- stamp pillow;
- applicator;
- hole puncher.
Master Class
The simplest option is a small desk calendar in the scrapbooking style. We create it as follows. Cut out 2 rectangles from cardboard. We do the same from kraft paper, but the blanks should be larger (by 3 cm). We glue the blank to the cardboard with glue, bending the edges.
Next, we take scrap paper and cut out 2 rectangles (4 mm less than the cardboard blank).Cut the braid into two pieces (13-14 cm). We connect cardboard blanks with it with glue. Then we attach the scrap paper to one of the blanks (this will be the "back" side).
Now let's move on to the external one: we glue lace, metal pendants and a picture with an image. We take a thick needle, poke a hole in the upper right of the calendar and tie it with a thick thread (twine will do). We perform similar actions on the left side. Next, we take a clothespin, attach it to the outside of the calendar with double-sided tape. It will "keep" the calendar grid. On the back of the product, you can make a "pocket" out of colored paper for storing calendar pages.
We put the original table calendar created by our own hands using the scrapbooking technique in a prominent place. Nice and original!
This technique also involves the creation of loose-leaf and wall calendars. It's easy to make them. The main thing is to show imagination and be patient. Such a hand-made product will look great not only in the living room, but also in the kitchen or in the children's room.
To create a scrapbooking style loose-leaf calendar, we take:
- scrap paper with the effect of "antiquity";
- transparent glue "Moment";
- miniature beads, satin ribbons and lace;
- "Calendar" papers;
- ruler;
- Images;
- cutter;
- stamp pillow;
- double sided tape;
- decorative flowers;
- hole puncher;
- lace stripes.
Cut 12 rectangles out of cardboard, round the ends. We do similar manipulations with scrap paper. We adjust each background to fit cardboard blanks and paint with a stamp pad. We glue scrap paper onto the cardboard and proceed to the design of each "sheet". They will be performed in a theme that corresponds to a specific time of the year. For example, we decorate the summer months with decorative flowers and sunny images, and the winter months with snowflakes or Christmas tree decorations.
So, in the right corner of each blank we attach a calendar piece of paper with a certain month, and we decorate the left one. We should have 12 different scrapbooking blanks. The thirteenth blank will be the front of the calendar. We make it by analogy with the previous "pages" of the product. On the right side, glue a bright picture with red flowers.
Then we take a volumetric tape and glue the name of the calendar, toning on the sides with scarlet acrylic paint. Decorate the left side of the cover with tulle roses and bright beads. Next, we connect all the pages and make holes in the upper corner on the right and left sides with a hole punch. We take special metal rings and insert them into the holes. We have got a very colorful and voluminous loose-leaf calendar.
A similar product can be hung on the wall, only its design will be different. First of all, we cut out a rectangle (18X12 cm) from thick cardboard. Scrap paper is suitable for decoration, cut out a similar rectangle from it and glue it onto cardboard. Next, we make 12 watercolor paper substrates and glue them on each original image at the top. We attach the "calendar" page to the lower part. We take scissors and give the calendar an "old-fashioned" effect. Next, we connect all the pages of watercolor paper, make a puncture. On the cardboard blank on the side, we also create an answer.
Using a dense thread, we attach the pages to the cardboard, in the middle of which we make a small hole that will help hang it on the wall. Next, we make a small "pocket" for pens and pencils. Cut out a blank from cardboard, bend the ends and glue it to the outside of the calendar. Let it dry and hang our masterpiece on the wall in the hallway. There are many options for creating calendars using the scrapbooking technique.
They can be made not only for yourself, but also as a gift to family and friends.
Useful Tips
In order for your calendar to turn out harmonious and at the same time bright, pay attention to the following recommendations.
- The tint of the background composition should be muted and monotonous if the image contains a lot of detail.
- The backing of photographs should not be decorated with bright colors. Otherwise, the colors in the photo will get mixed.
- Design all your calendar pages in the same style, otherwise the product will look ridiculous.
- Don't go overboard with details. The enemy of scrapbooking is oversaturation with decorative elements. In the case of loose-leaf calendars, focus only on the front side.
- Do not use too saturated colors in your work. They will "hurt the eye".
