Postcards using scrapbooking technique for birthday: original ideas and subtleties of making

Scrapbooking is a type of creativity, the purpose of which is to create various objects (postcards, boxes, notebooks, books) with your own hands. The term scrapbooking comes from a combination of the British words scrab and book.

The very first collection in a similar style was created in 1598. Around this period, it became fashionable in Great Britain to preserve poems. And in Russia at the same time began to publish handwritten albums and books. This creative process began to receive its present form in the 19th century, and the term began to be used in the 1830s. Later, home photos began to be added to cuts from magazines, poems and curls. On the pages of the album, a complete chronicle of the family was lined up with all the bright moments captured in the photographs, supplemented by memoirs.

One of the earliest scrapbooking techniques was greeting cards. In a sense, the postcards created then became the impetus for this art to go beyond the album. And the motives and look that the postcards had when this style was just incipient became an inspiration for the craftswomen today. Besides, in the scrapbooking technique, many of the most common little things are created: a notebook (it will be a great birthday present), a photo album, an album for drawing, boxes or a tea house.

It is worth noting some of the features of this technique.

• It cannot be classified as an inexpensive hobby. Both materials and devices cost quite a lot.
• There are specialized materials that can be used to ensure long-term preservation.They do not crumble over time, retain the brightness of colors, do not deteriorate when interacting with chemical compounds (for example, in the case of photographs).
• Passion for this type of creativity will require a separate workplace and space for storing materials.
• Creating items using this technique is a rather painstaking process and will take a lot of time.

So, what does it take to create a nice little thing like a greeting card?

1. Cardboard. Strong enough not to get wet from the glue.
2. Stationery knife and scissors.
3. Soft sandpaper. For starters, you can change it to a nail file.
4. Ruler.
5. Stencils.
6. Curly scissors.
7. Glue stick, hot glue or super glue.
8. Something with which you can make holes (stick, needle).
9. Gel pens, colored pencils.
10. Wire.
11. Sequins.
12. Thin ribbons, beads, pearls, flowers, bows, stamps, fabric, straw, fabric, tree bark, iron parts.

As a child, we often made postcards as a gift to our relatives. It was interesting for us and valuable for the person to whom it was intended. In adulthood, few people devote their time to this. Making a scrap card is a great opportunity to renew the tradition of homemade gifts. Such a postcard will look dignified and delight the person.

Variability is another indisputable plus of this idea. Postcards can be round, square, triangular, and so on. You will not be limited in ideas: a postcard in the form of a book, photo album, postage stamp, costume or doll.

Let's give a general principle of creating such a postcard.

1. We decide on the shape, color and material for decoration. If necessary, we prescribe the whole process on a separate sheet.
2. We cut out the base for the postcard and all the additional details that we need.
3. Putting it together into a single structure, letting it dry.
4. We give it, we have fun.

Well, now in more detail. As an example for analysis, let's take a neutral postcard with a lacing.

The required tools are as follows.

1. Very thick cardboard.
2. Scissors, utility knife and hole punch.
3. File or sandpaper.
4. Brown or dark green tissue paper.
5. Decorative stamps, metal gears, a vintage-styled photograph with a car, an image of a balloon and a clock, a small photograph of the person to whom it was intended.
6. The same stamp, an image of a letter, straw, a black square bead, decorative flowers, newspaper clippings with text, canvas fabric, a small image of a compass, an old film strip, pens or print imprints, 1-2 feathers. And also we need a sheet of office paper prepared in advance and cut to size.
7. Thin rope.
8. Lighter.
9. Glue stick.

First of all, let's decide on the scale of the postcard. For example, let's take the dimensions 18x14 cm. We measure out 2 rectangles with these dimensions on thick cardboard and 4 on tissue paper. Cut out. Next, we will prepare newspaper clippings, an image of an envelope, stamps, a photograph and "letters". It is necessary to dilute instant coffee in a cup at a low concentration. Paint the cuttings with a brush and put them on the battery to dry. Then we process the edges of the cardboard parts with sandpaper.

We glue the parts with tissue paper. A glue stick is best for this. Carefully glue the edges, let everything dry. Let's go over the dried edges with sandpaper again. Next, we will use a hole punch. On the side that serves as the height of the postcard, 6 holes need to be made on each part. Above and below the part, you need to indent 1 centimeter. We will be positioning the card horizontally.

Then we will tie 2 pieces of cardboard together using twine. To do this, measure 35 cm from the skein and cut it off.We attach the parts to each other so that the holes coincide. Pull the string through the top hole and crosswise through all the others. We loosen it up so that the card opens easily. Tie a knot, thread the ends into a square bead, make a double knot. Cut off the ends and burn them a little so that they do not bloom.

Now it's time for decor. Let's start with the inside. Our blanks should have been dry by now. Do not glue wet parts. On one side of our postcard, we will place a place for congratulations. We make an image of a postal envelope in the background.

Let's stick well. At the top we place our "letter" (a place for the text of congratulations). You need to place it so that it does not take up all the space. It should look like part of the composition, as if it were being seen by chance. You can place the sheet obliquely.

On the other side, we will place a photograph and use newspaper clippings for the background. So let's start with the background. Think about where the photo will be placed (it can be on the edge, in the center or in the corner). Place 2-3 newspaper clippings underneath so that they create the background.

Lightly scorch the edges of the paper before gluing the scraps. If you have placed your photo on the side or in a corner, you can fill in the remaining space with compass clippings, filmstrip, or feathers and dilute with clippings. Or, with the help of these decor items, you can select another place for writing a congratulation. You don't need to glue additional paper for this.

We carefully review our work for poorly glued corners or "crawled" glue. If any were found, then we finish the work inside and go to the cover. The main focus of the cover will be on the front of the postcard. For this we have prepared a vintage postcard with a car, an image of a balloon, a clock, a compass, straw, canvas, gears. In addition, we can use everything that was not useful to us for interior decoration.

We will use a canvas fabric as a background. We have prepared a 12x9 cm piece. Place it horizontally in the upper left corner. On top of the fabric in the lower right corner, attach the vintage image of the car. We fill the rest of the space (including the fabric) with the remaining decor details to our taste. For example, a place for initiation can be placed there.

Our postcard is ready. This is far from the only way to create a postcard using the scrapbooking technique.

Take advantage of the advice of skilled craftsmen.

1. For wedding cards and invitations, you can use lace in delicate shades.
2. If the postcard is intended for a child, then it would be appropriate to make it in the form of an animal or a fairy-tale character. Use bright colors.
3. It is better to design a postcard for a man in strict, neutral colors using masculine attributes.
4. Don't forget your sense of humor. For example, a postcard might look like a bottle of wine.
5. If you're making a two-piece card but don't have enough space, add another piece in the middle.
6. A card for a girl can be decorated with flowers and ribbons. Inside, you can make a pocket for notes so that the card can be used to store them.

• Round postcard in the form of door leaves. The base is solid, made of thick cardboard. Ribbons, strings, a stylized print button, felt and paper flowers were used as decor.Place for congratulations text inside the postcard.

• The postcard consists of 2 main parts and one auxiliary, which (as an option) can be an integral continuation of the lower part. Buttons, ribbons, flowers and lace were used as decoration. The base is completely cardboard. The postcard is intended for a girl (girl, woman, girlfriend). Will be a great gift for a newborn baby.

• Postcard of a classic rectangular shape. The decor is made in the form of a window. A solid piece of cardboard is taken as a basis. Fabric, beads, ribbons, leaves and blades of grass were used as decoration. The postcard is made in a neutral style and can be a gift for a friend, grandmother or mom.

• Postcard stylized as a vintage envelope. Made of solid cardboard. Ribbons, bows, gears were used as decor. Perfect for a gift to your husband, father or grandfather.

• An interesting postcard of a rather complex design. Made from one piece of cardboard. The raised effect is achieved by varying the position of the folds. The main focus is on the "facade" of the postcard. The back only supports the entire construction. Flowers, ribbons, decorative twigs and vintage postcards were used as decor.

• Awesome minimalist postcard. Solid cardboard is taken as a basis. The bend is at the top. For creation, a special cardboard for scrapbooking was taken. The postcard has only 2 decorative elements: a "chain" of mail envelopes and a signature at the bottom. A completely neutral postcard that doesn't take long to create. You can donate it to anyone. An excellent solution if you need to give something to an unfamiliar person.

• Unusual winter postcard made in the form of a Christmas tree decoration. Solid cardboard is taken as a basis. Place the fold at the top of the postcard. Used as decoration: colored paper, braid, lace, beads, felt snowflake and ribbon bow. It doesn't take long to create such a card, so it will help in the mission "congratulate, invite or thank a large number of people."
