Knowing the characteristics of an electric violin can help you get the most out of this instrument and make it easier to choose. The article clearly states how to choose electronic violins from Yamaha and Stagg, other brands. Interesting facts, sound features and settings are described.

Peculiarities

In modern music, the importance of traditional instruments based on the mechanical extraction of acoustic waves is quite high. But at the same time, the popularity of alternative solutions is growing, in which the sound is produced by electrical devices of various kinds. Electromusical instruments have existed for more than a decade, and even more so - for about a century. Therefore, treating them condescendingly, as something secondary and not too high quality, is hardly correct.

First of all, the sound began to be extracted from the strings on the electric guitar; but rather quickly followed by a galaxy of other instruments, among which the electric violin is notable.

Of course, the electronic violin still has to use a bow. But the way sound waves are generated has changed. Instead of vibrations in the housing, the action of the piezoelectric sensor plays a decisive role. Most often it is placed under a so-called stand. It is pressed against the body of the instrument by the strings, and experts note that therefore it would be more correct to talk about direct removal of the vibrations of the strings, and not the body part.

As a result, engineers gradually took a radical step - completely ... got rid of the hulls in the usual sense. After all, there is no need to preserve the shell and decks, with the exception of tradition, there is no here. The sensor is mounted on a solid wood base. Attach to this support:

  • neck;

  • sub-grip part;

  • chin.

The sound produced by an electric violin is usually processed with modern acoustic effects. Engineers and programmers have already proposed a number of techniques by which the sound is as close as possible to the "voice" of a rock guitar. Naturally, such an instrument is most in demand in non-traditional genres and styles of musical art. But there is no need to be sad about the aesthetics of the old violin - its modern version has an incredible timbre and dynamic range, moreover, it is easy to adjust.

The main effects used are close to guitar ones; since each copy is equipped with headphones, you can train at home at any convenient time without disturbing your neighbors.

The making of classical violins dates back to the 16th century. It was then that the constructive scheme was worked out, which, in general, is followed by the creators of the power tool. They try to give it graceful flowing forms. The body is made of wood. A characteristic that is not found anywhere else is the "waist"; it is also worth noting the extraction of sounds with a bow.

The operating principles of an electric violin and an electric guitar are identical. The comfort of playing and the possibility of recording it is much greater than that of a classical instrument. It should be noted that it also allows playing classical music, and not much less attractive than the "mechanics". Many professionals have already appreciated the increased productivity of the concert work.

Not only that, electrification is the only way to raise the volume to the point where it doesn't get lost in the background of other instruments in the orchestra.

You can play almost regardless of the skill level (of course, certain skills are still needed). However, the use of electronic effects comes to the fore. But it is with them that a paradoxical situation is connected. To use them correctly and sensibly, you need ... first, how to master the classical violin and master all the subtleties of sound extraction. It is not known a single case when first they would master the power tool, and then the "classics" - this is not a substitute, but an additional assistant.

How to choose?

If you already have some level of skill in violin lessons, you can choose budget versions of the electric violin intended for beginners. A professional instrument from Yamaha and other similar brands is suitable for those who have already achieved serious success.

Important: when choosing an electric violin, the danger of overestimating your skill is much greater than when buying a classic instrument. Errors when playing, due to the higher volume of the sound, will be immediately noticeable.

Electric violins can have very sophisticated body shapes. You need to check if it fits in the store. They also check the "responsiveness" of the tool and the ease of use. To achieve a richer sound, you need to take not frame, but resonating models. It is better for beginners to stop at devices that are structurally closer to the mechanical "classics" - everything else requires a radically different level of skills.

How to set up and play?

The electric violin can be connected to a computer and ordinary powerful speakers with an amplifier. If you have a guitar amp, you can use that too. The operating instructions reasonably write that ordinary and electrified violins have the same scale. Correct selection of the so-called effect processor is critical. As usual, the thinner the string, the higher and shrill sound it makes.

Let's use Brahner EV-502 / MBK. The back side is equipped with a tone block, with which the volume and tone can be adjusted. There is also a microphone port. The power supply is obtained from a standard "Crown" with a voltage of 9 V. If any problems arise, it is most correct not to try to solve them on your own, but to contact the music masters - this is more reliable.

Interesting Facts

Such models, like "regular" ones, are often created by individual craftsmen from start to finish. Of course, such a tool will cost a lot of money. The most accurate cuts are made with a band saw. The head, in comparison with a classical violin, has a more streamlined shape - the characteristic curl is excluded. Magnetic pickups can be used along with piezoelectric ones; a high-speed milling machine is used in the production process.
