Slime is a popular toy that is often interesting not only for children, but also for adults. You can buy it in a store or do it yourself at home with your child. For him, this process will certainly seem very exciting. In this article, we will tell you how and from what a beginner can make a slime without resorting to the use of sodium tetraborate.

What can be replaced?

Sodium tetraborate is the most common thickener you can use to make your own slime. However, when creating a toy at home, you can do without this drug, provided that you find something that can replace it.

You can thicken a slime using various means that are easily found at home. These include soda, salt, PVA glue, boric acid, gel for removing dirt, sugar, gelatin or, for example, starch. However, here it is important to know and precisely observe the proportions so that the slime turns out to be soft and stretchy. To do this, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the recipes for cooking this popular toy below.

Even beginners or those who have never cooked a slime with their own hands at home can cope with them.

Recipes

There are several easy ways to make an anti-stress toy.

With soda

Soda is a good thickener. Its big plus is its low cost. As a rule, almost everyone has it at home. To prepare a slime with soda, in addition to the main component, you will need 125 milliliters of PVA glue, shaving foam and a container in which you will mix it all. If desired, you can also use dyes, which will make your toy more colorful.First you need to mix the glue and shaving foam. This must be done carefully. As a result, you should have a mixture that resembles cake cream in consistency and density. It is at this stage that you can add dye to make a slime.

After that we add soda. Do not fall asleep a lot at once, add it in small pinches so as not to overdo it and achieve the density you need. When adding baking soda, be sure to stir the mixture, keeping an eye on its consistency. When preparing a slime, it should be borne in mind that the mass will not immediately acquire the consistency you need. For this reason, after the first addition of soda, you will have to wait a little for the mixture to set. Only then can the soda be added again, if necessary.

But there is no need to rush. If there is too much soda, then the slime will simply deteriorate and will have to be done again.

With flour and starch

Slime based on flour or starch is easy to prepare, just follow the instructions. So, to make a slime, you need 4 tablespoons of flour and the same amount of gel or mask-film. All this must be thoroughly mixed. This should be done until the mass becomes dense enough. If you use a colorless gel during cooking, then the slime will turn out to be transparent, which will most likely look ugly. In this case, we recommend using special dyes, which can be added at the last stage of the preparation of this toy.

It will not be so difficult for beginners to cook slime from starch. To do this, you need 3-5 tablespoons of this component, liquid soap, and a teaspoon of thick cream. First you need to mix the last two components. This must be done so that there are no lumps in the mixture. Then gradually you need to start adding starch to get a thick consistency. Add dye if desired.

You can tell about the readiness of a slime by how sticky it is: if the toy does not stick to your hands, then it is completely ready for use.

From bath gel

Slime, made on the basis of bath gel, is the easiest to prepare, because it only requires one component. However, to create such a toy, a child will definitely need adult supervision.

To prepare a slime, it is enough to take a shower gel, pour five spoons of it into a container and warm it all up in a water bath. Please note that the container into which the gel will be poured must be heat-resistant, otherwise it will simply burst. Next, you need to wait for the excess moisture to evaporate. The toy will thicken at this time. When it reaches the consistency you need, put it to cool. It is not worth touching the finished slime for at least an hour, as it is very dangerous when hot.

From toothpaste

You can also make a viscous slime from an ordinary toothpaste. This will require a tube of this component, as well as a bottle of stationery or any other glue. Separately, we note that it is advisable to take a whitening paste, but if one is not at hand, then you can take a regular one. The workflow is quite simple. Squeeze the paste or gel for cleaning the oral cavity into a container, then pour glue there, not forgetting to stir the mixture. Stir the mixture until it gets the consistency you need. Ideally, it should be viscous and resilient.

Most likely, the smell of the slime will not be the most pleasant. In this case, you may well drown it out a little. Perfume or a few drops of essential oil can help you with this. Add one of these products, then knead the slime well and let it sit at room temperature for 48 hours. After this time, the toy will be completely ready for use.

From glue

You can make a popular children's toy out of glue in just a couple of minutes. To do this, you will need office glue and water. As a result, such a slime will turn out to be transparent. To make it bright and colorful, add dye to it.

The workflow is quite simple: you need to mix both components as if you were collecting glue in one lump. Next, you need to knead the slime in your hands, dipping it into a container of water from time to time.

If you plan to make a colored toy, then first you need to mix the glue with dye, and then with water.

With sugar

The sugar-based slime recipe also does not involve sodium tetraborate. In this composition, it is replaced by other components that perform exactly the same functions. First you need to prepare all the necessary components. Among them there will be 30 milliliters of liquid soap, the same amount of shampoo and a teaspoon of powdered sugar. The last component can be easily made at home from plain sugar. It just needs to be ground with a hand mill or coffee grinder.

The work is easy enough. All components that are in liquid form must be mixed and, if necessary, add dye to them. Next, you need to gradually mix in the icing sugar. It is not worth saving on it, because it is this ingredient that determines how thick the slime will be. Having received a homogeneous mixture of the consistency you need, give the slime two hours to infuse at room temperature, and then put it in the freezer for half an hour.

With salt

Slime without sodium tetraborate can also be prepared using ordinary table salt. In addition to it, you will need shaving foam and 30 milliliters of hair shampoo. In terms of consistency, such a slime will turn out to be quite airy. It is easy enough to prepare it. First, mix the shaving foam, shampoo and dye, if any.

Next, add a whisper of salt, stir it all well and leave the mass in the cold. It should stand there for about half an hour, after which the slime will be completely ready for games. When making a toy for hands according to this recipe, it would be best to give preference to the thickest shampoo: this will help you quickly and easily achieve the required consistency.

Useful Tips

When making slimes with your own hands, you should not neglect the recipe and dosages of the components. Otherwise, the toy will not work: it will be too thick or too liquid, and the ingredients will be wasted. When playing with a slime, you need to be as careful as possible so that the toy does not accidentally get on the wallpaper, clothes or hair.

It is worth considering the fact that homemade slimes, which do not contain sodium tetraborate, usually have a short shelf life. It ranges from three days to a week. Next, you have to prepare a new toy.

It is best to store homemade slime prepared without sodium tetraborate in the cold in a closed container. This will help the toy stay firm and rubbery for longer.
