Most dog breeders dream of a diminutive but brave protector. The French Bulldog breed, which is popular among breeders, corresponds to a similar description. Playful dogs with massive heads and short legs are loyal friends and excellent watchmen. The most common are brindle French Bulldogs.

History of the breed

The progenitors of the "French" are considered to be English and Spanish (already defunct species) bulldogs. Disputes between breeders are still ongoing. The British are convinced that they have bred miniature fighting dogs on their land. The French, on the other hand, prefer to think about the origin of the breed on their own territory. Initially, small and strong pets lived in workers' families and acted as brave rat catchers.

Over time, the adorable pet penetrated the upper classes of society. In Russia, the "French" appeared in 1913. Miniature animals with a brave appearance instantly won the love of the intelligentsia and became frequent guests of bohemian parties. The French Bulldog cannot be confused with the English or American brethren. The animal is miniature in size and belongs to decorative breeds. The characteristic features of the "Frenchman" include:

  • large massive head (flattened muzzle);
  • muscular torso, broad chest;
  • short strong limbs;
  • tail of medium length (cannot be docked);
  • triangular protruding ears;
  • expressive intelligent eyes of dark brown color.

    Boys are larger than females. The maximum growth of males reaches 35 cm. French Bulldogs live 10-12 years. The nature of the "eared" pet is quite controversial.On the one hand, the "Frenchman" is calm and docile, and on the other - playful and wayward. Pets need to be raised from the first days of appearance in the house. Otherwise, the miniature bulldog will become uncontrollable as it grows.

    The "French" faithfully serve their master and are distrustful of strangers. Dogs bravely defend their homes and love to play with small children. However, their increased activity has "destructive" properties. For example, bulldogs love to chew on furniture and shoes.

    Another feature of the "French" is the following: dogs cannot stand loneliness at all. Being for a long time without the owner, the "eared" begin to yearn. In loneliness, the psyche of an animal can stagger.

    Colors

    The breed standard implies the following coat colors for French Bulldogs:

    • brindle;
    • spotted;
    • pale yellow.

      The most common is just the brindle color, which has the following variations:

      • black base, decorated with red stripes;
      • ginger background with black hairs.

      In brindle French Bulldogs, light spots on the chest and neck are allowed, and a dark mask adorns the muzzle. We can say that this color combines all shades of fawn, red, black and bronze.

      There are also white-tiger specimens. The snow-white fur of animals is decorated with black markings interspersed with red hairs. Experts say that puppies with a similar fur color are distinguished by good health, playful character and unpretentiousness.

      Lovely puppies are born with smooth, velvety and shiny coats. The color begins to appear by 3-4 months, and is fully formed only by the year. Standard color puppies are quite expensive and are highly regarded by experienced dog breeders. Note that the color of miniature bulldogs does not significantly affect the nature and health of animals. but when choosing a pet, it is better to opt for a standard fur color. Defective Frenchmen can suffer from genetic diseases.

      Care features

      "French" brindle color requires a thorough examination of the coat after each walk in the summer. The fact is that it is quite difficult to see dangerous ticks or cuts against a dark background. In addition, the black fur attracts the sun's rays, so in the heat, the dog can get heatstroke. Otherwise, keeping French Bulldogs is not very different from caring for other breeds of dogs. Your pet's health depends on proper and balanced nutrition. Natural and industrial feeds are suitable for the "French". The animal's diet consists of:

      • lean raw meat;
      • porridge (buckwheat, rice, oatmeal);
      • boiled sea fish without bones;
      • low-fat cottage cheese;
      • boiled vegetables.

      Due to physiological characteristics French Bulldogs are not recommended to be fed liquid food. Dogs will breathe in air with it, leading to colic and bloating. Industrial feed for the "French" must be purchased only from trusted manufacturers. The digestive system of dogs is quite delicate and does not accept low-quality foods. The bowl for this breed should be wide and shallow. Metal or plastic products are perfect.

      The pet's place should be warm and cozy. Drafts and dampness are contraindicated for animals - dogs easily catch colds. In winter, pets are walked in clothes, since their thermoregulation function is difficult. In severe frosts, French Bulldogs should be kept indoors. Grooming the animal's coat should be regular.

      The dog is combed out with a special brush 1-2 times a week. Mild shampoos for short-haired dogs are suitable for water treatments. The skin of the animal should not dry out, otherwise dandruff will appear.

        Particular attention is paid to hygiene of the ears and eyes of the bulldog. The ears are cleaned with cotton swabs, and the eyes are washed with special drops purchased at the pet store. Also, do not forget about the folds on the animal's face. After walking in the streets, dust and particles of earth accumulate in them. Remove dirt with wet wipes. French Bulldogs have their nails trimmed every 2 weeks. If cracks appear on the paws, and it hurts the dog to walk, then the owner is obliged to show the pet to a specialist.
