Eurasiers: description of dog breeds, temperament and basics of care

Representatives of the Spitz-like group are distinguished by their friendly and non-spiteful character, docility, playfulness, and mobility. One of its brightest representatives is the Eurasier, which has gained popularity in European countries. These dogs are excellent companions, loyal and reliable friends. In the article, we will consider what is remarkable about the breed, and what a person planning to become the owner of the Eurasier should take into account.

Eurasier is a breed of strong and hardy dogs, bred in Germany in the second half of the XX century. The main purpose of the breed is companion dogs, family dogs.

The Eurasians inherited the best qualities from their ancestors. So, the initial breeds for the breeding of the Eurasians were Wolf Spitz, Chow Chow, Samoyed Laika. From them, the Eurasians got not only a noble and expressive appearance, but also a stable psyche, a good disposition, endurance, energy, good intuition. They are easy to learn and train, quickly memorize commands, master new skills.

The average height at the withers of adults varies between 50-60 centimeters, weight - within 20-30 kilograms. These animals are characterized by a strong and stocky constitution, a proportional strong body with moderately long and muscular legs.

The structure and shape of the Eurasier's muzzle are typical for Spitz (the features are not rough, but not sharp either). The presence of Samoyed blood in this breed causes a very bright, "smiling" expression on the muzzle. However, the presence of a fold of skin on the low and flat forehead gives the overall expression some seriousness and focus.

A black edging is allowed around the mouth and eyes, making the Eurasier's muzzle even more expressive. Ears are small, erect, triangular in shape, with slightly rounded tips. The top of the ears is facing forward.

The eyes are large, with slightly overhanging upper eyelids. The lower jaw is rounded, in proportion to the upper jaw. The bite is scissor bite (straight or pincer bite is also possible). The teeth are small, even, and moderately wide.

The body of the Eurasier is strong and compact, with a pronounced withers, a strong and elongated back, and a wide chest. The line of the abdomen is raised and tucked up. The tail is raised high, wrapped in a semicircle.

The coat is dense and very dense, formed from guard hair and undercoat. The traditional coat color is smoky gray, zone gray, black, reddish red. Almost any single color is considered acceptable. However, according to the description proposed by the standard, white spots and white coloration are not allowed. On the muzzle, a mask of a darker color is possible compared to the main color.

Feet - muscular and straight. When viewed from the dog, both front and hind legs should appear level and symmetrical, in proportion to the body.

Hanging ears, small and close-set eyes, thin or curly hair, flat muzzle - these and other defects are usually referred to as disqualifying defects. A it is also customary to attribute cowardice or, on the contrary, aggressiveness of animals to the disadvantages.

One of the advantages of dogs of this breed is that they can be kept both in a country house and in a city apartment. However, when planning to adopt this cheerful and active creature in an urban apartment, the potential owner should take into account that the dog will need regular and long walks. Being a very energetic animal by nature, the Eurasier will need not only walking, but also games and communication. However, an indomitable temperament is not characteristic of them, therefore, physical activity among Eurasians should be relatively moderate.

Eurasiers are easy to learn and quickly memorize new commands. Dog handlers claim that even an inexperienced breeder can cope with their upbringing. Dogs of this breed are perfect for cynological sports - agility, obedience. These features of the Eurasianists suggest an appropriate approach to animals by their owners. A person planning to have a dog of this breed must understand that his pet will need attention, communication, movement.

The natural lack of aggression towards strangers does not allow the use of Eurasiers as guard dogs. However, if this dog senses a danger threatening its owner, it can show its protective qualities.

Some breeders attribute to the disadvantages of keeping Eurasier the need for careful dog hair care. The coat of these dogs requires regular brushing and washing, without which the dog quickly acquires an unpresentable appearance.

A separate disadvantage is that the Eurasians are considered a rather rare breed of dog. Outside Europe, animals of this breed are rare.For this reason, purchasing a Eurasier puppy can come with certain risks. So, some unscrupulous sellers often sell puppies of more popular breeds (Wolfspitz, Mestizo Samoyed Laikas) under the guise of Eurasier. Inexperienced buyers who are poorly aware of the standards and rarity of this breed may not suspect deception when making such a transaction.

Dogs of this breed easily find a common language with children, easily get along with other pets. With the owner and members of his family, the Eurasians behave kindly and docilely. They are able to experience immeasurable affection for their owner, to show great respect and love towards him.

However, with all these qualities, the Eurasier is a rather independent and strong-willed dog. They can be safely left alone for a short time, without fear that the pet, experiencing an attack of longing for the owner, will spoil things and furniture. Left alone, these dogs behave calmly. Not only country houses are suitable for their maintenance, but also ordinary city apartments.

Eurasiers are a real find for people who prefer an active lifestyle. These dogs willingly spend time moving, playing and walking. They are inquisitive, benevolent, non-conflicting, patient. In some cases, Eurasians can show stubbornness and willfulness, in connection with which they initially require a strong-willed and self-confident master.

Despite the fact that Eurasians feel comfortable when kept in apartment conditions, they cannot be called sofa dogs. These animals need to expend energy during the day, so it is recommended to walk with your pet at least twice a day. In addition, it is advisable, while living in the city, to periodically take the dog out into nature, where it can run and exercise to its fullest.

Taking care of the Eurasier's coat includes regular brushing of the dogs. This procedure should be carried out at least 1-2 times a week. Animals of this breed do not need frequent bathing. The dog should be washed as soon as the coat becomes dirty. Drying the wool is best done with a hair dryer.

The diet of the Eurasians as a whole does not differ from the menu prescribed for Spitz and Laikas. It can be special industrial feed (preferably of the holistic class and of the premium and super-premium class), and natural food ("natural").

The list of acceptable products includes such as:

• lean meats (beef, lean mince, pork without fat, horse meat, poultry);
• boiled offal;
• chicken eggs;
• buckwheat and rice porridge;
• dairy products;
• lean types of fish;
• boiled vegetables.

Eurasiers are easy to train, so even an inexperienced owner can teach them basic commands. It is important to take into account that dogs of this breed do not tolerate rudeness, toughness, and aggression on the part of humans. It is advisable to build the training process gradually, providing the animal with an adequate amount of load.

Exercise should be regular and consistent. Preferably, the owner of the animal is trained according to the plan. Activities should be alternated with pauses, during which the dog can rest and be distracted a little.

When exercising, it is important to ensure that there are no distractions or annoying external factors at all. While the dog is mastering the command, obeying the owner, there should be no other animals, strangers and children nearby.

Commands should be given in a clear and confident voice, without distorting the name of the animal. Whenever the dog will correctly follow the command given to it, the animal must be encouraged with a treat. As a treat, you can use boiled pieces of lean meat or boiled chicken hearts.
