Norwegian Bukhund: characteristics of the breed, rules of care

Currently, there is little information about the origin of the Norwegian Buhund breed. This type of dog is directly related to the groups of Kamchatka, Siberian, Greenland Sheepdogs. This dog is also called the Norwegian Laika, it is the oldest of the Scandinavian breeds. In 1880, in the Gokstad area, a Viking burial was discovered, next to which there were skeletons and dog fur. The remains of this beast were mistaken for the ancestor of the modern bukhund.

The Viking tribes used these representatives of the animal world to protect their homes, property, livestock. The northern dog traveled the world with its owners, never leaving people on land or on water. After a while, the animals entered the territory of Greenland, Ireland, Scotland. According to some theories, the Sheltie, Icelandic dogs, are considered the ancestors of this breed.

The first exhibition with the participation of the Norwegian Buhund was organized by John Sealand. This event took place in the 1920s. After several decades, the dog was recognized in the United Kennel Club.

The Norwegian Shepherd is a medium-sized, square-built dog. This animal has some similarities with other breeds of Laikas. Dogs are characterized by a clear severity of sexual dimorphism, so a dog can be easily distinguished from a bitch. The main characteristics of the dog that correspond to the standard:

• the head is wedge-shaped, it is flat, dry, has no folds on the muzzle;
• the nose is pigmented in black;
• the lips and eyelids of the animal are black;
• slightly slanted eyes are characterized by an oval shape, the color of the iris is usually dark;
• the jaws have a scissor bite;
• the neck is well defined, it is short, strong and quite mobile;
• the back is characterized by strength and straightness;
• the tail has the same characteristics as that of ordinary huskies, it is set high and rolled into a ring on the back, it is also characterized by some turn to the side;
• ears are sharp, erect;
• front and hind legs are straight, muscular and even;
• the animal reaches a height of about 47 cm, while weighing 15 kg;
• the pet's coat is rough, has an average length, the hair on the face, the front of the legs is shorter than on the chest, neck and tail, the dog's undercoat is warm and thick;
• the coat color of the Norwegian husky can be wheat or black, according to the standard, the dog can have a dark mask and dark guard hair.

The Norwegian Buhund is a calm, loyal, energetic and hardworking dog breed. The mental development of dogs deserves special attention. This representative of the animal world is smart and quick-witted, he can be easily trained, he grasps commands on the fly. Bukhund's attitude towards guests at home is cool and restrained. Aggression is not often noticed for representatives of this breed, usually they express negative things with loud barking.

A good diet is considered the basis of a healthy lifestyle and health. In order to protect the Norwegian Husky from allergies, it is worth remembering that he should not be given food from his table. Prohibited foods include the following:

• sausage and smoked meats;
• salinity and spicy foods;
• sweet, in particular chocolate;
• small bones;
• bakery products;
• pasta.

Meat and meat products should be given to the dog cooked, so you can be sure that there are no dangerous microorganisms in it. Raw vegetables and fruits should be washed well before serving to the dog. You can also feed your pet with cereals, such as buckwheat and rice. The diet of the "Norwegian" should contain sea fish, dairy products, eggs, vegetable fat, offal and greens.

The Norwegian Bukhund is a versatile dog breed that can quickly adapt to different living conditions. This pet can be acquired by people who live in apartments and private houses. Such a creature can be kept in an aviary, but not on a permanent basis. The best option for keeping this shepherd dog would be a private house, since the animal will have a lot of free space.

If the dog lives in an apartment, then he will need constant walks in the fresh air. The room should be equipped with a special corner for the pet with a sunbed placed in it.

Representatives of the Norwegian breed are considered very clean, they are rarely smeared. The main activity for caring for a dog is combing the fur with a special brush. It is worth carrying out this procedure once a week, and when the dog sheds, then 2 times more often. It is necessary to bathe your pet only when urgently needed.
